The Fantasy Premier League transfer market is never far from the community’s thoughts.

This week was no exception as debates raged around whether points rather than pounds should motivate Fantasy managers’ decisions, and if premium midfielders can get the better of heavy-hitter forwards.

Our resident statisticians also had money on their minds, as they took advantage of the new price filter in our Members’ area.

Meanwhile, our community scribes focused on the wisdom of the crowd as they looked ahead to Gameweek 4 and we complete our round-up with news from the community’s most recently created competitions.

The Community Articles

Those backing Romelu Lukaku with the captaincy will be buoyed by Hutch_James’ latest look at what ‘the crowd’ are saying about Gameweek 4’s fixtures. This gathering of the masses think that his Manchester United side have the best chance of goals when they take on Stoke City on Saturday evening.

The Fantasy Eliteserien Norwegian top-flight game is back following a three-week break. Niemi dropped by with the latest injury, suspension and team sheet news ahead of Gameweek 21.

Congratulations to Top Marx for winning our latest community writer of the month vote on the back of his regular updates on the highs and lows of our Career Hall of Fame Top 5. A £20 Amazon voucher is on its way to him. His latest round up of this elite group’s trials and tribulations can be found here.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topic

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino is proving the most popular acquisition in the FPL transfer market this week, with many bringing him in as a third striker in an expensive frontline. We canvassed your views on whether the Brazilian is the best candidate for this slot, or if we should be looking at cheaper forward options.

Swansea’s Tammy Abraham is among those under consideration, although Dug Out wonders if the Chelsea loanee may be forced to share pitch-time and points with striker Wilfried Bony, who has returned to the club after less than successful stints at Manchester City and Stoke.

Ludo is unimpressed with any of the Welsh side’s attacking options in his analysis of the club’s season so far, but is far more enthusiastic about the points potential of their defenders. This prolific Hot Topic poster has also been considering the merits of the Premier League’s most successful corner taker, Burnley’s Robbie Brady, as well as whether our captaincy poll can be a good predictor of a success.

Many of those answering our Tot Topic on the Gameweek 4 captaincy will certainly hope it can be, with current poll leader Lukaku among those mentioned frequently.

Spurs’ Harry Kane is another popular armband option according to our poll, but with no attacking returns from his impressive underlying statistics, we pondered whether he is really an essential player to own.

Some of those considering ditching the Spurs talisman believe that selecting both of his team-mates Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen instead could provide more points, according to our discussion on the merits of a midfield double upsGarlic Bread added to the debate with his Hot Topic canvassing your views on this dynamic Spurs duo.

However, Lucio’s Limelight is not convinced such a tactic is viable regarding Liverpool, although TimothyJS’s discussion on the merits of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane revealed that many are keen to have both.

A look at the FPL transfer market this season shows it is clear the mass ranks of managers are still uncertain on Salah’s potential. The Egyptian has already been subject to a price rise and a drop in value over the first three Gameweeks, prompting us to wonder whether the search for profit is overriding the quest for points.

Finally, Diva sparked a debate on how much of our Members’ area statistics should be shared.

To view all our discussions, please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members’ Tables

Sticking with statistics, our Member table constructers have been busy this week, with Don’t Shoot looking at defences under pressure and They are lost casting an eye over the teams that excel at passing.

Pittas has been taking advantage of this week’s addition of a price filter to the Members area armoury to assess low budget midfielders. Meanwhile, FPL Virgin’s price-based latest tables take in budget strikers, midfielders and defenders.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The real football transfer window may have closed, but team managers taking part in the Community Watch tournament are now entering their busiest recruitment period, according to the latest competition committee update courtesy of AA33.

Elsewhere, Daniel Levy dropped by with news of an FFScout league being set up for Fantasy NFL.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

A)!Transfer Kane -> Morata and Carroll -> Brady to play to the fixtures (-4)?
    B) Save

    Foster (Elliot)
Jones / BDavies / Cedric (Hegazi) (mbemba)
    Miki / Erikson / Mane /Chalo (T Carroll)
    Luka / Chica / Kane

Worried I'm too bias towards Spurs and no Chelsea coverage.. dropping Kane alweys a risk though..

The defence is a mess. 1 who won't start and 3 who are risky starters at best. Is your midfield and attack ok? If not, you may want to wildcard.

I would change Danilo as Walker is Citys 1st choice right back. Kolasinac, Stephens and Suttner all should start.

So Danilo out for Dawson / Naughton . Naughton also going to raise soon. Anyway you need 100% starter def.

Get rid of Danilo pronto then you need to look at replacing Stephens and upgrade Long to a £4.5m defender.
I was thinking of getting Naughton too and even had him for a bit on my active WC but I just don't fancy Swansea as a whole to keep many CS and this shows why when you sort Shots Conceded In

With Clyne out of action for a few months I am thinking of bringing TAA and Gomez in as my 4th and 5th choice defenders.

I am playing 442 so it is no different than Cedric/Dawson and a 4m 5th choice defender in price and 1 will play every week with potentially more upside to other 5m options.

    Any thoughts??

It is a good idea but a very risky one as you will be trying to guess which one starts but suppose if one starts in the CL then the odds are they won't start in the next game

      1. Demel
        • 14 Years
        8 years, 8 months ago

But with autosub it won't make a difference. I start TAA and Gomez starts then Gomez comes off the bench to replace TAA.

        1. Syd.
          • 16 Years

There will always be the risk that the one you pick doesn't start then gets subbed on for a few minutes

            • 14 Years
            8 years, 8 months ago

I agree this is possible. But unlikely. And there is a potential upside. If you pick the right one (and European games should be a good indicator) and he is subbed on the 70th min with a clean sheet it means he won't lose it later on when the opposition score.

    3. Jafalad

I'm rather pleased I kept TAA as it looks he will play quite a few league games.

    4. Lazaretti

I had TAA bu transfered him out.

I think that TAA will start in champions league and gomez in premier league. As premier league is more physical and Gomez is physically better. Also do not see that Liverpool will get many CS. But if TAA plays he might be in set pieces and corners. I also had a prblm that I needed 100% starter as there is many doubts in my def in long term.Generally I would keep TAA but I would not bring him in atm.

Currently on Mané myself - just feel he has the potential to state his case as best attacking mid in the league this season.

Posted this earlier but this seems like a good place to RP:

Some interesting head-to-head headlines for the top captain pollers this week (obvs Laca, Morata and co. not included as no available data!)

          Lukaku v STK p10 4g 40%

          Kane v EVE p6 3g 50%

          Mané v MCI p6 3g 1a 67%

          Alexis v BOU p3 3g 100%

          Firmino v MCI p4 2g 3a 125%

All great options with solid records versus the clubs they face.

Ready for madness? I'm in a weekly cash league where winner takes $40 and second gets nothing. I'm delaying my wildcard until next int break so I suspect my squad is weaker than some others.

I've taken a 4-point hit to get rid of Danilo and KdB and brought in Alonso. I've got Kaku but I think the safe option won't get me first place, so I'm punting on Alonso.

      Lukaku for me.

The match after an international break and ahead of a champions lg game is among the toughest to predict. There are doubts everywhere, no player is safe from rotation.

I'm hoping that the Manchester United is among the surest starters but I've mainly got him as captain as he is one of the few players this week where form and fixture align really well.

While Arsenal and West Ham assets have the best fixtures-their team's form is poor and they look out of sorts.

Ordinarily this week should be about Hernandez, Sanchez or Lacazette for the armband but all are strong risks sadly. until we see evidence of a turnaround it's safety first for me.

Yes, but the table shows they are ranked 3rd when defending those chances, no matter how frequently the give them to the opposition. It's an interesting matchup but I can't see Kane bracing tbh.

Kaku in the absence of a standout in my own side. United in form, he's in form... Not too exciting but what can you do

Lukaku. Shawcross out for sure and possibly Zouma, Stokes central defence doesn't look that good after those guys missing..

Other options Firmino and Jesus. When I expect lots of goals in City vs Pool game then there wont be 1-1. Goals from Otamendi and Mane.

Kolasinac. Plenty on here ready to bemoan Arsenal's form on the back of a Liverpool mauling and how rubbish their defence is blah blah blah. Bournemouth haven't exactly set the world alight with their start to the season and they also head the table http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/team-stats/defending/ of shots conceded. If I can't captain him in this fixture then it's a waste even having him.

I like to think it was because someone at fpl towers saw the transfers out and then his gwk 5 fixt against Brighton and said, 'nah, these fools don't know what they are doing, let's keep his price as it is'.

In reality though it was because he was flagged then unflagged

      1. Swinner
        • 12 Years
        8 years, 8 months ago

Flagged? Is it possible to see these flags? If so where?

Points = Pounds and vice versa.

I was on about Kane's fail to drop. Seems price drops are more active than rises this year. Can handle that but hate the randomness and inconsistency. I used my wc to optimise and protect £ that will result in Pts. I think there needs to be clarity of what and determines a rise or fall and when.
