There may be no Premier League matches this weekend due to the FA Cup, but the community cannot afford to take a break.

With the cup results set to reveal the teams destined to face a blank fixture in Gameweek 31, our Hot Topic posters are full of guidance on the key matches to monitor.

The best use of a Free Hit chip to navigate the upcoming tricky fixture schedule also comes under scrutiny, as does the decision-making acumen of the Scoutcast team.

Meanwhile, there’s invaluable advice in our Members table round-up for those looking to take advantage of a swing in the fixtures taking place from Gameweek 28.

Elsewhere, we look at the latest standings in our community competitions and also reveal further details of our first football tournament, which is raising money in honour of a greatly missed community member.

The Community Articles

Next weekend sees the inaugural Fantasy Football Scout charity football tournament take place. Organisers My Pretty Pony and TopMarx dropped by with details of the event, which is being staged to raise money to combat ocular melanoma, after community member Simon Humber (Absinthe) lost his battle with this rare form of eye cancer in 2015.

There’s talk of filming the “action” on the day, so expect to hear and perhaps see more on the outcome and the walking wounded in a future round-up.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Fantasy managers will be paying close attention to events in the FA Cup over the next four days, with the results revealing which teams will miss out in Gameweek 31.

We asked the community what dream Cup results they are looking out for to ensure they can get the most out of this upcoming fixture complication.

Meanwhile, Individual has also been looking ahead to Gameweek 31 and wondering whether it is better to focus on a small group of quality players, or look to field a full XI.

Deploying a Free Hit chip could be the best solution to navigating this tricky period in the calendar. FPL Virgin has been weighing up the merits of using this vital chip in Gameweek 31 or saving it for Gameweek 35’s likely curtailed fixture list.

For those looking to fire up their second Wildcard when Gameweek 31 is over, we discussed whether it is best used immediately afterwards or whether it is worth waiting a week for further information ahead of double Gameweek 34.

However, there are many FPL managers who have already used such key chips, in particular those in the top 10,000, according to Irbox’s discussion on chip use.

Depending on FA Cup results, now could be a good time to stock up on a top heavy front three, says Deus. He points out that medium and premium-priced forwards at Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and Leicester City are among those with a strong run of fixtures from the end of this month.

Roberto Firmino is a particularly enticing prospect as Liverpool are among only four sides currently guaranteed to play in Gameweek 31. We asked the community how they plan to invest in Reds assets given their fixture advantage and strong form of seven goals in their last three league matches.

Gunners assets are also catching the eye, according to our discussion on which of Arsene Wenger’s troops to target.

A focus on relegation scrappers could also prove lucrative according to our Hot Topic on those fighting for their Premier League survival, with Huddersfield among the teams at the wrong end of the table who won convincingly in Gameweek 27. Those eyeing up the Terriers’ budget assets will be paying close attention their cup tie with Manchester United this weekend, as defeat will ensure they play in Gameweek 31.

Cheap players who are capable of offering managers surprising points hauls were among those recommended in our discussion on Fantasy Football heroes. With Mark struggling to list any such saviours for his side this season, this was an issue that also spilt over into the latest Scoutcast.

Our weekly podcast became a source of debate itself this week when Numb canvassed your views on what else you would like to see featured on the show.

This followed a lively debate, sparked by Granville, on his fellow Scoutcasters’ controversial decision to shun Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero over his recent strong run.

Undeniably, those that made the decision to swap Harry Kane for the Argentine in Gameweek 25 have prospered, given the City man outscored the Spurs forward by 17 points since then. Diesel001’s discussion looks back on how this latest Kanexit strategy panned out. The form of this pair of elite strikers was also covered in our lessons learned from Gameweek 27 Hot Topic.

But as our “rough with the smooth” round-up of your latest scores demonstrated, Aguero was just one of a raft of players to deliver strong returns and ranking boosts for the community. During Gameweek 27, there were 15 other players to join the Sky Blues forward as a double-digit points scorer.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members Tables

To coincide with Spurs’ kind fixture run I’ve created this table looking at their sharpest shooters. Sun Jihai has been scouting replacements for Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi, who has only earned one clean sheet and delivered no attacking returns over his last six league run-outs.

Elsewhere, attacking midfielders are the focus of CorporateDJ’s latest research.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Elvarus continues to dominate Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league, with a 31-point lead over second placed Stuart Blakeley.

Impressively, all of the top four in Red Lightning’s January to May league scored centuries in Gameweek 27. The new leader is Shirin Nizar, who has netted 444 points since this competition launched.

Jack Wain retains top spot in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors, but I’ve reduced his lead to just two points and overtaken ZoumasBloomers to take first place in QPR UTD’s Frequent Summer Posters league.

Paul Gee, who is ranked 19th overall, has reached the summit of the FFS Members League, with Ian Mannion leading the chasing pack.

There’s also a change at the top of the main FFS league, with former number one Damir Te Nay, who topped the overall rankings for six weeks earlier this season, staging a dramatic comeback to take the lead. His impressive score of 107 in Gameweek 27 also sees him climb to fifth in the overall rankings.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing, the safety score was 68, which saw 75 players depart and 459 remain.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-Ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head-to-head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

It’s a worry when the highlight of my evening was seeing Chilwell start and keep a cleanse. Ps How did Emerson look tonight, chaps?

I didn’t like the fact he got the assist...still can’t see too much Alonso rotation though.

Giroud looked decent from what I saw...he’s got to start matches.

Barca line-up will be interesting. Early subs suggest Fab and Pedro might start, I would have thought Morata too?

    20/2 CHE-BAR
    25/2 MUN-CHE
    4/3 MCI-CHE
    10/3 CHE-CRY
    14/3 BAR-CHE
    17/3 FA Cup (blank)

This is growing my intention to ditch Alonso. How much damage could he do with these fixtures?

You're thinking of him as a defender which is the problem. He's a winger that cuts inside and has a few direct free kicks that picks up clean sheet points. He's cheap.

Good point, but his minutes may be limited in such a tough schedule. I wouldn't expect clean sheets in those matches, while he may be rested vs CRY which looks like the only easy fixture.

    Someone considering this?

Load a DGW34 players from now on

    Use FH in 31

Revert to DGW34 players and enjoy their points in 32-33 (with a use of FT if necessary)

    BB in 34

    WC in 35 with a mix of Non-blank 12 players for BGW35 and 3 DGW37 players (1 GK). Remember that Non-blank 35 still have fixture in 37.

Get more DGW players in 36-37 with FT

Play your optimal DGW players in 37

*I still think the best time to use FH is 31, and late WC is a safest strategies with many team will change their priority and motivation in that time..

Need to see the results and how the fixtures fit in.
Need to make up good points before GW31 as GW31 is probably scoring similar to those not using FH31.

You say that points gap from FH to Non-FH team is more significant at 35 TM? With team already in that fixtures how many gap do you think?

Sorry, just wanna know other people think.. With more big DGW31 i still think the gap will more big too..

Well if the big teams make the FA Cup semi finals, they will be useless to your team in GW35 whereas FH teams won't care.

Currently just Salah, Firmino and Shaqiri with 2FTs. Can get 8 with no hits and no more upsets. Hoping for one upset (maybe Huddersfield beating United) and then may take a hit or two to get 11.

5 confirmed: VVD, Salah, Shaqiri, Walcott, Firmino

Will have at least 6, either Zanka or Smalling having a game. Hoping for Bournemouth to have a game as I've already got Wilson and Ibe, so realistically the best I can get is 8 after this weekend.

Seems like the majority will be using FH in gw35.. As I have no WC im using it in 31.. All I can hope for is a few cup upsets next FA Cup round, and/or tough draws, so that bgw35/dgw37 will be easier to cope with.. oh yeah and obviously that I pick the right players with the FH chip.

I think most people's teams will look the same for 31. There aren't enough 'differentials' that people want to make it worth it then.

Salah Firmino VVD Walcott Shaqiri and then a few others here and there. If you've got a team with players like that, I'd hold off.

I've got Salah and Firm at the moment and am considering a Hazard -> Mané move in the run up to 31. Can't see many other players I'd like. (Have Wilson so hope they don't blank).

I think I can easily find 11 good candidates..

        A potential team:

        Lossl/Hennesey
        PVA VVD Daniels
        Salah Stanislas Sigurdsson Walcott
        Firmino Benteke/Niasse Wilson

Yes but most people will have most of them- there's no real gain in using the chip then.

GW35 will see most people loaded up with DGW 34 players that they'll mostly want to keep for DGW 37. In this week there are games like Arsenal v West Ham where you could really take advantage of a Free Hit with someone like Aubameyang if Arsenal are within reach of 4th for example.

            • 9 Years
            8 years, 2 months ago

            What is most of them?

People have Shaqiri, walcott and the three liverpool players.. thats about it.. a few has wilson or niasse as well.. still a lot of potential good picks in the mix.. forgot to mention Shaqiri as a potential pick in mf

You also have to remember I dont have a WC.. so if dont use the FH in 31, I wont get as many DGW34 players, and my BB will be less useful

Ah sorry didn't see the no WC. Yeah could be the best way, load up on the weeks before for 34. Could get a march on a lot of players that won't be getting in players pre 31 because of their blank.

same boat here but we forget that big advantage of the FH for us is that we dont need to worry about 31and disrupt our team. We dont need a bit of luck with some differential picks though. But its not really about the gw31 score more how we do in the weeks proceeding it and after it!

If Mahrez is focused and proves he can play up to his abilities, he makes a strong case to get him instead of Eriksen who will probably have Champions League on his mind too.
Though Leicester won't be as motivated as Tottenham. LEI can't reach European qualification places, while TOT will be fighting till the end for one of the UCL qual spots.

    Time to target West Brom?

Most of this will seem obvious to everyone, but the recent events in Barcelona combined with reading The Secret Footballer books again has me wondering why we aren't lining up to target them.

The Secret Footballer (which I'm sure most of you know) is probably Dave Kitson and is a former PL player that writes an occasional Guardian column. He's also released a few books that all of you would find very interesting as he is extremely open about what he's seen at the highest level in a way no other ex player has been.

The situation of the West Brom players stealing a taxi, staying out well past their midnight curfew, combined with Pardew's 'I'm disappointed' response reminds me of when TSF talks about managers losing the dressing room.

He talks about players knowing they're going down or that their manager will be definitely getting sacked and just losing the will to listen to anything he says, while plotting their escape routes.

    This has clearly happened here.

I'll be paying extra special attention to who they're playing in the double weeks and certainly not be bringing any of their players in, how about you?

Good point well made. The victory over Liverpool threw the cat amongst the pigeons but I still think that the club are displaying signs of dysfunction that can only manifest themselves on the pitch.

    ARS-WHU, BOU-MUN, BHA-TOT, CHE-HUD, MCI-SWA, WBA-LIV.

Im thinking of doing the followig transfers over next 2-3 gws if there no other pressing issues. Good transfers ?

Alonso and Otamendi --> VVD Mawson/Mee

Gives you extra 2.5m to invest in your midfeild and attack.

    Kane-Kun.

Spurs have rarely scored more than 1-0 against Crystal palace.

With Kane flagged for an injury and Spurs playing Away...would it be better to roll the dice one more GW with Kun against an Arsenal defence?

I can see a Hattie of goals in that Man City game with at least 1 goal to Kun's name (who is currently going thru a purple patch).

Nonetheless Salah will be my Captain in all scenarios, but will monitor Spurs Vs Rochdale tomorrow if Kane is truly injured (and if Spurs can maintain the Juventus spirit), also on Monday Man City play Wigan so depending on the Jesus/Kun minutes we should get an indication for the Arsenal game.

If Spurs play GW31 then that may also sweeten the deal towards Kane comeback.

Liverpools cs record is not that bad to be fair. And i´m not sure if your point is valid about teams in relegation zone, from last seasons ending stages Liverpool became more and more solid at the back and it seems like their balance now is better. Buying a defender at 5.5 is another matter though, personally i´d take the chance on Robertson as he is a lot cheaper and seems pretty nailed atm, and my reasoning for him beeing nailed is that he offers far more security defensively than Moreno and whilst Klopp is not considered to be a defensive minded coach he does prefers stability at the back. Robertsons offensive contributions is bound to result in assist soon with all those lovely passes whipped into the box.

Mane or VVD is going to be the dilemma of the week for me. A few weeks ago when I was about 80-90 points behind in my ML I probably would have gone for Mane AND VVD as differentials to my rivals who mostly have Firmino and Gomez. However after some major work put in by Hazard and Aguero a 33 point gap has changed my thinking.

So...assuming that Firmino and Salah are the two essential Liverpool players, VVD or Mane? Mane could be an explosive differential but I still have doubts about him, and Liverpool have some really easy home games and their defensive record at home is great. VVD is probably the safer pick, with Mane the high risk high reward pick.

    1. sunzip14
      • 9 Years

I would say VVD as we have some other explosive mids in the price bracket of Mane. 3 forward players is too much of a gamble if Liv do not score.

I think that hatty could spark the revival of Mane. he will be fresher than all as he has only 17 starts in pl which is around 10 fewer than likes of Salah Firmino. and plays in gw31

Not to forget other players around his price like eriksen sterling hazard pogba will all be prone to rotation due to cup and cl duties.

Why is VVD so popular.? everyone think he has such great attacking threat but actually he has only 4 goals and no assists in 70 pl matches.

Put into context Monreal has 4 goals and 2 assists this season alone.(in 22 matches) and arsenal has excellent fixtures like liverpool

Id rather have Monreal and use the 3rd liverpool slot for Mane who is more explosive.

he'd be worth it. playing alongside salah and firmino he'll get plenty of chances to score

you cant trust those players you mentioned .arnautovic has terrible fixtures till end of season and mahrez may not be the same after all the transfer saga. (wally and shaq are inconsistent)

That's the thing though, if I bring Mane in for Hazard and a 5 mil BGW31-playing defender for Alonso I can upgrade Quaner to Vardy. That would eliminate the need for Mahrez, I already own Shaq, Arnie fixtures are turning, and I think I'm more keen on Mane than Walcott...
