2017/18 was a season of mixed fortunes for Fantasy owners of Tottenham Hotspur players.

Harry Kane matched his best-ever single-season haul for league goals (technically beating it after the Premier League goals accreditation panel retrospectively awarded him Christian Eriksen’s strike in the 2-1 win over Stoke City), but will also be remembered for frustrating blanks in home matches against Swansea City, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion, West Ham United and Huddersfield Town. A fair share of Fantasy Premier League managers will, meanwhile, still be ruing their “Kanexit” strategy in December when the England striker punished his deserting owners with back-to-back hat-tricks.

Christian Eriksen‘s total of 11 strikes (one subsequently scratched) was his best goal haul in a Premier League season, but the Danish international recorded only half of the assists (ten) he had managed in 2016/17.

Dele Alli scored 50 fewer FPL points in 2017/18 than he had managed the previous campaign, with his goal tally (nine) exactly halved. Even Son Heung-min‘s goal (12) and assist (eight) returns, as impressive as they were, were down on 2016/17.

Spurs’ wing-backs, most notably Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier, coupled their clean sheet prospects with regular attacking returns but were at the mercy of Mauricio Pochettino’s irksome rotation policy on the flanks; not one of the Lilywhites’ four full-backs started more than 26 league matches in 2017/18.

The north London club are, at least, a comfortingly unchanging presence amid this summer of big-money moves and new manager recruitment. At the time of writing, Spurs were one of only two Premier League clubs – the other being Burnley – who have yet to sign a player during the current transfer window.

Pochettino will be taking charge of Spurs for the fifth successive season, meanwhile, and we can expect the same brand of quick-pressing, attacking football he has cultivated in his four years at White Hart Lane. Although Pochettino occasionally rolled out a three-man backline in 2017/18, we will inevitably see more of the Argentinean coach’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system again this season.

In-depth data on Spurs’ season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the article below.

I am looking to play 4-5-1 with the opportunity to go 3-5-2. Don't like the value up front this year.
Might do something different after I play my WC though.
        Alonso -> Azpi?

I would also like to have 0.5 ITB to do Lamela -> Mkhi after first 2 GW's
        Should I do Alonso -> 6.0 or Sané ->Mahrez?

They damn well need to. This is an excellent signing but he's not going to get the goals to keep them up.

They look destined to be the new Derby 07/08 unless they make at least three more signings, one of whom is capable of 15 goals.

I hope Eddie Howe sticks with the 343 he's experimented with. Jack Simpson (4.0) could become an option. He's a promising 21-year-old that partnered 1st-team players Ake & Cook for the first half against Sevilla.

Bournemouth were disappointing last season, but I have a lot of respect for Eddie Howe. I love the way he sets his teams to play - probably the result of his close relationships with Sarri and Guardiola.

    Fingers crossed for Jimpson.

I think BOU will really struggle this season. They had a poor last season, havent improved their squad by much and have a naive approach to the game. Meanwhile other mid and low table teams are getting quality transfers in.

He's been a CB for two years now while training with the first team, he was converted. Howe fast tracked him from the youths when he was 18. Been grooming him since. Recently signed a new deal.

I personally think the content is good for the most part. But there is a much more "tabloid" feel to the site this summer that seems to annoys many, myself included tbh. Last season we had "The Numbers Game: [Team]" articles, this year its more clickbaity "Best X players to buy!". Also think the player articles try too hard to catch the attention instead of trying to report on the players in a balanced way. The Mkhitaryan and Richarlison articles were both very unbalanced in portraying the pros and cons of the players. Several smaller things that add up and sort of crossed the line with the "MKHI IS ESSENTIAL" article title.

I think the articles in general are good and the writers seem good, but it has a tax on the quality when they churn out 3-4 articles per day. Many of the articles require the writer to watch several friendly games every other day if the articles are to be on point and useful as well, which is impossible in pre-season.

Couple of teams tried tonight and would like peoples thoughts on one of these two:

    A) Salah, Mahrez, Aguero, Kamara
    B) Hazard, Sanchez, Firmino, Arnie

Both come out very similar in the RMT rankings, but with Firmino possibly missing GW1, and Arnie's fixtures being tough I am favouring A.

    What do you reckon?

This season seems a lot better than last with the amount of choice we have. I doubt there will be a template. Simply too many good expensive options. Salah, Kane, Sanchez, KDB, Auba, Aguero, City mids, Firmino, Mane, Hazard hopefully, United attackers are hardly in the mix so far but should be viable as the season progresses. Then there is a ton of 6-7 options that look viable. And that is before even starting to consider the different approaches in team structure. Lots of different opinions on here regarding that as well.

The players I have that I am over 90% certain will still be there come Aug 10 are Robbo, Salah, Aguero.

I've gone from 3 Everton to 3 Wolves and then to 1 of each. That's the match I can't work out where I want to be.

Made some changes to the draft, and its looking quite nice. Any thoughts on this?

    Guaita/Patricio
    Robertson Davies Bailly Cedric
    Salah Mahrez 6.5
    Aguero Laca Arnie

    Stekelenburg Cairney Ward WB

Contemplating Mendy over Bavies. 6.5 will be whoever looks the best before the start but its currently on Maddison. Changeable formation for the last spot between Cedric, Cairney and WB.

Is Guaita going to get the starting spot though?
I flipped between him and Hennessy for some time before dropping both and picking up Patricio due to the uncertainty.
If I knew which Palace keeper was going to start I would pick him.

I am personally staying away from Tottenham players for the first few weeks until the WC players are back in the fold again.
I choose Mendy for my team.

Looks good to me, although Arnie's fixtures seem tough. Maybe he can power on through though; he's on fire in pre-season it would seem.

Kun may not start GW2, and if he does he may pick up a customary injury, or blank, or get a goal & get hauled off early by Pep. Mkhi may not start at all (but is going to be legendary value if he does) Wilshere composed of 95% Glass, very prone to shattering. Bailly competing with 19 other centrebacks at Utd after GW1 (although I think he’ll hopefully win a nailed spot as he’s their best def). Mendy uncertainty, Tomkins always injured. McCarthy competing with Fraser Forster for the shirt.
