We are delighted to announce Fantasy Football book ‘Wasting Your Wildcard‘ has now been released.

Written by regular site contributor David Wardale and fully endorsed by Fantasy Football Scout, it should help you plug the painful gap between the end of the World Cup and start of the 2018/19 Premier League season, which is not far away now.

Subtitled ‘The Method and Madness of Fantasy Football’, the book is being published by Penguin’s respected sports imprint, Yellow Jersey Press, and is packed with hints and tips from some of the best Fantasy managers out there.

But it is as much about the people as the game, with stories of glory and despair, mini-league skulduggery and humiliating failure and the strange grip the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in particular has on managers from Australia to Zimbabwe and just about everywhere in between.

There are in-depth interviews with FPL champions and Fantasy-mad Saudi princes, a comprehensive look at the eternal conflict that is stats versus ‘the eye test’ and chapters on the history of the game, the all-conquering beast that is Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and what the future of Fantasy Football might look like.

There’s also a revealing section on our very own Mark Sutherns, detailing the methods behind his successful approach to playing FPL.

Written by a fan for the fans, we think Wasting Your Wildcard will inform and entertain in equal measure, while grappling with the reasons behind why we, as supposedly grown-up men and women, cannot resist playing a game of footballing dress-up.

Order ‘Wasting Your Wildcard’ with Waterstones HERE.

Australian fans can order through Booktopia.

There's a good chance he'll play as Alli is unlikely to be ready after the World Cup and Son is going away to the Asia games (after GW1 i believe). Also have Lamela in contention so would keep an eye on the friendlies. Lucas bagged a brace last night.

How's this? 'Minimum' bench but hopefully decent for first 2/3 weeks then look to get some TOT/ARS in.

    Ederson
    VVD, Robertson, Bailly, Azpi
    Salah, Mahrez, Richarlison
    Aguero, Zaha, Arnie

I like it. I've got with premium defence as well and double pool. I am just going to be conflicted over starting Arnie as won't really want him to score in that one...

Not starting him isn't going to affect whether he scores or not.

I like it, I have Coleman and Mendy over VVD and Bailly, but I think strong defence is a good shout.

Cheers, I could do the same and get Alisson in for Ederson. Just not sure about Mendy starting and Coleman and Richarlison may be a bit too much Everton coverage for me.

Wardale's book is fantastic,a must read for lovers of the fantasy football world.

The many story's of what other FF managers have gone through for the love of the game have had a great resonance with me and also learning about the history of the game and how it came to be was fascinating.

I am just about to start reading chapter 11 now.

2 Pool, 2 City right now.

      Robbo Salah Mendy Mahrez

But Im getting cold feet abt Mendy who hasnt played a single minute in preseason yet (I think). Need City def though from 2 to 7 (or 8, havent checked). Could get Ederson ofc but was kinda set on the Foster/Patricio rotation.

Reading up on new Leicester defender Ricardo Pereria:

'Helped by his pace, Pereira completed more successful dribbles than any other defender in the Portuguese top flight this season, while only Bayern Munich’s Josh Kimmich and PSG’s Dani Alves made more key passes per game among right-backs in this season’s Champions League.

That doesn’t mean he shirks defensive duties though. Pereira ranked second for tackles in the Primeira Liga this season, despite playing for a club that averaged 57 per cent possession.

Those statistics are not anomalies in his career. Under Puel at Nice in 2015-16, Pereira ranked in the top five Ligue 1 defenders for tackles and dribbles.'

random one but is anyone looking at a punt on Elyounoussi at Southampton - stats albeit in weaker leagues are amazing - would prefer cheaper than 6.5 though

Much better goals to games ratio than Salah had at Basel. Fixtures are tempting too.

No, but not because he would necessarily be a bad pick but because there are better and safer picks at the same price.

Would sooner go with Redmond for 5.5

Im considering him over Lamela. Im Norwegian so thats a little bonus as well. All 4 Norwegians looks like decent options (King, Johansen, Sorloth, Elyonoussi), maybe Johansen the least.

Zaha vs Arnie vs Tosun vs King vs Wood vs Austin vs Jiminez vs ......

    Who?

    And more importantly, why?

Zaha and Arnie are the clear standouts for me.

    Mane + Auba
    or
    Salah + Zaha/Arnie

I'm quite seriously considering going without Salah currently in favour of Mané and spreading funds. I know Salah will almost definitely score well, it's just a matter of how much more than other alternative combos.

    Zaha or Chelsea defender?

      Zaha

I expect Chelsea to concede more goals with Sarri

Good question. Probably Zaha for me, because as things stand at the moment, we can get a lot more out of a 4.0 bench defender than a 4.5 non-starter striker

Which duo do you prefer ?

    A. Bellerin & Silva

    B. Cedric & Eriksen

    Current team:
    Ederson
    Shaw Robertson Coleman Bellerin
    Sane Salah Silva Richarlison
    Arnie Aubameyang

Who would your top pick out of Jota or Maddison? I don't have any other Wolves or Leicester player.

I'm looking for a 6.5 punt (already have Richa) and have narrowed it down to these two.

      Moutinho at wolves for 5.5

Moutinho is good at giving stability to a team, to dictate play with the rythm of his choice. But he isnt the number 10 some think he is. He wont have many attacking returns.

Are we overlooking Sanchez a bit too much? He seems fitter and sharper then most in pre-season.

Moutinho for 5.5 looks a steal especially compared to Jota at 6.5!

How are they even comparable? Moutinho will play much deeper.

Was planning to get Kola or Bellerin in for Arsenals good run of fixtures, but this is putting me off.

Leno surely the way to go if looking to get in some Arsenal defence.

Yep, saw this yesterday. Leno at 5 is good, but I would never use him as set-and-forget.
