With just over a week to go until the 2018/19 season begins, Watford players aren’t proving to be popular purchases in the Fantasy Premier League community.

The Hornets are one of only two clubs – the other being newly promoted Cardiff City – who don’t have a single player with an FPL ownership of 5% or more.

This isn’t a huge shock, looking at last season’s figures: the Hertfordshire club had the third-worst defensive record in the top flight and only one of their players – central midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure (£6.0m) – scored more than five league goals. Richarlison, meanwhile, departed for Everton last week.

Javi Gracia’s side are third-favourites for relegation with some bookmakers and their form from Gameweek 14 onwards last season – the Hornets won more matches (six) before this point than they did in their remaining 25 games (five) – was that of a team fighting the drop.

Watford’s opening three fixtures this season are enticing, however: home matches against Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace sandwich the Hornets’ trip to Burnley, who could be in UEFA Europa League action either side of that encounter.

Encouraging underlying defensive statistics, the pre-season form of Andre Gray (£6.0m) and a tactical system that encourages their full-backs to attack are worthy of note, too – all of which we will expand on in the article below.

In-depth data on Watford’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the article below.

Just for fun, please RM “no salah” team!

    Patricio
Luiz - Robertson - Tomkins (AWB)
    KDB - Mané - Eriksen - Costa (4.5)
    Aguero - Auba - Arnie

    Tempting isn’t it?!! 😉

Are u Wolves fan? Costa nailed?

Btw, you could downgrade Eriksen to Richarlison and do Arnie to Firmino and upgrade elsewhere.

Yep. I think Costa is nailed. Cavalerho will be sub or on his way out...

Don’t rate Richarlison - too much hype. Won’t deliver. Would rather have Pedro or Jota tbf...

Agree re: firmino though. Will have to tinker....!

Not for GW1, as KDB likely won't start. Luiz is a very odd pick as well.

Personally, if I was going without Salah, I'd want to be spending a bit more of that on defence.

Agreed GW1-2 ruin it but as a team it’s a dream!!

Defence is a bit light but that attack.....

          Patricio
          Robertson Bailly (6.0 Chelsea) (5.0/Shaw) (5.0 TAA)
          De Bruyne Mahrez Eriksen
          Aubameyang Agüero

          4.0 | 4.5, 4.5, 4.5

Obviously room to move in defence but I'd be pretty happy with that team. Could have Azp and a 4.5 or a 5.5 like Bellerin for Arsenal's good fixtures.

          Still no idea though...

Mata could be a nice 2-week punt. He is playing a 'false 9' role once again, and it looks like him and Sanchez understand each other.

Given Mou hates Martial while Lukaku, Pogba and Lingard is still MIA. 6.5 and swap him straight for Mkhi or someone else in the 6-7mil bracket after the first 2 GW's ?

Or maybe not the definition of false 9, but very much OOP, and the only United player moving into the box 😉

True, but from what I've seen this 21 minutes Shaw & Darmian could be gold (if Mou plays with WB's due to missing Lukaku, Pogba, Lingard & Matic). Darmian and Shaw so far up the pitch atm.

2 questions I need your help with please chaps....

1- GK, can't see too much worthwhile at 4.5, Pickford at 5 or go Ederson at 5.5 ?(quite like ryan and fabs at 4.5 but tough early fixtures)

2- MF, not seeing too much love in RMTs for Mikhi or Sessegnon, anyone think these are better picks than Richarlison and Jota who seem to be the favourites in this price range?

    cheers gents

GK... Allison is better at 5.5m I think. Liverpool will be solid defensively this year. Ederson seems to let goals in when city are in a high scoring game. Screwed me over for clean sheets many times last year.

I think he and Lukaku would pair up well up front (or maybe I am too old skoolz and like the classic big striker and little striker up front. Rashford and Martial making runs around them and drawing off defenders and then Pogba running in from the midfield. Would be so nice to watch. Really let the horses run freely

Would definitely be an option if Fred wasn't bough to 'unlock' Pogba in a midfield three. I kind of disagreed with the Alexis signing anyway, he's turning 30 this season, on mega money with no resale value and doesn't fit into the system. Taking away opportunities from Martial/Rashford too.
