With just over a week to go until the 2018/19 season begins, Watford players aren’t proving to be popular purchases in the Fantasy Premier League community.

The Hornets are one of only two clubs – the other being newly promoted Cardiff City – who don’t have a single player with an FPL ownership of 5% or more.

This isn’t a huge shock, looking at last season’s figures: the Hertfordshire club had the third-worst defensive record in the top flight and only one of their players – central midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure (£6.0m) – scored more than five league goals. Richarlison, meanwhile, departed for Everton last week.

Javi Gracia’s side are third-favourites for relegation with some bookmakers and their form from Gameweek 14 onwards last season – the Hornets won more matches (six) before this point than they did in their remaining 25 games (five) – was that of a team fighting the drop.

Watford’s opening three fixtures this season are enticing, however: home matches against Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace sandwich the Hornets’ trip to Burnley, who could be in UEFA Europa League action either side of that encounter.

Encouraging underlying defensive statistics, the pre-season form of Andre Gray (£6.0m) and a tactical system that encourages their full-backs to attack are worthy of note, too – all of which we will expand on in the article below.

In-depth data on Watford’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the article below.

Am I the only one who doesn’t see value in most of the sub 9.0 midfielders? Think there’s a lot of fool’s gold there. Pogba and Ramsey the only ones that interest me, maybe Mkhitaryan/Willian if they’re nailed. The only cheap mid I’d be considering is Cairney. I don’t think they will outsource the likes of Azpi, Robertson...even Arnautovic, Zaha.

Fair enough 2 very good fixtures to start for Eriksen and Mahrez must be a doubt despite been given the all clear. ( still yellow flagged)

Similar to mine so I lile it. Very good balance if you plan on playing 2 up front every week.
My only concern is where you'd downgrade if you decide to upgrade your third striker at some stage. Might take a few moves?

I'd likely change with a wildcard, Likely bring Kane in once August is out the way. A downgrade of one of the 9.5 mids would be likely source of funds

      Finally love this draft.

Morata is the only one I think people can dispute.

      Ederson 4m
      Robbo Bailly Luiz Cedric AWB
      Salah Sanchez Eriksen Neves Stephens
      Morata Arnie King

Sanchez will become KDB whenever he is back and I'd love to squeeze firmino in but actually really fancy Chelsea fixtures so may just stick with morata for now.

Btw I'm trying to rotate the 2x5.0 mids. I'm currently on Kenedy and Hughes! Any suggestions are appreciated! The other 3 mids are Salah - Sanchez - Mane! I have opted for Morata as my lone striker with Sorloth and Quaner on the bench!

Actually a few decent options at this price. Hard to say which will rotate well as they all seem to start at home. Don't go kenedy. Neves, Cairney, Costa, Hughes and falls could all work out well

I'm a bit biased with kenedy to be fair as I had him towards the end of last season and he flattered to deceive and loved getting booked for a 1 pointer! Don't get your hopes up with those fixtures.

      RateMyTrash:
      Ederson / 4.0
      Robertson / Pereira / Kabasele / AWB / Peltier
      Salah / Richarlison / Mahrez / Gray / 4.5
      Auba / Aguero / Mitrovic

Plan on starting Robertson and Pereira every week; Cardiff, Watford + Palace rotate really well to have at least one favourable fixture for the cheapies each week. Gray is a punt, he could really step up with Mahrez gone.

Midfield weak. So many with Rich as 3rd best mid. He hasn't scored since GW 12. Better options from promoted teams imo. Mitrovic no thanks. I'd rather Arnie+Zaha and 1 premium striker and spend cash elsewhere

      Hey guys,

The aim of my team is to focus on attacking defenders (which I view as better value than miss at the same price), while also having a strong 1st sub to rotate. Salah will be perma-captain.

Is this team a viable squad or is the whole premise flawed.

      DDG

      Robertson, Mendy, Bailly, Coleman, PVA

      Salah (C), Richcarlson

      Aguero, Arnie, Zaha

I know you hate Rich (fair enough too) but with great fixtures and better supply he should improve (hell he should regress back to a better conversion rate as he can't get any worse)

I like it however I wouldn't bench Ramsey in any fixture

maybe downgrade PVA to Wan-Bissaka too

I find I don't like the upgrades when I downgrade PVA.

Maybe Ramsey to Mahrez, but it really weakens my bench which could be important due to rotation in top teams.

          Got me thinking though...

Pedro couldn't get into Chelsea's team. Something could be wrong with his attitude or of course he pissed Conte off. Rich was knackered after the winter as he played throughout the summer in Brazil with no rest. This season could be different though.

Azp 100% but the others are a bit of a mystery. Think Rudiger should be there and then Luiz/Christ. Alonso has a lot of preseason but maybe Emerson?

Or Zappa on the right and Azp in the middle?

Alonso - Vertonghen - Young - Lovren (Jagielka)
      Mane - Sane - Richardson (Mkhitaryan, Kante/Neves)
      Arnautovic - Mitrovic - Aguero

Vert and Young may miss early weeks due to WC.

Forster may have lost the starting gig, same with Jags

Apart from that, looks good (for a no Salah team)

I dont get why people think Salah will score less this season. Ok he will get marked by defenders more, but if he improves his conversion rate (which he should) along with the likelyhood that he will get *more* chances due to an improved squad - I think he scores more.
He will beat his own record.

I, personally think he will miss 1 and be a sub for the second (based on previous WC returners)

No one will start with Lukaku regardless and while it reduces Sanchez's appeal it isn't the absolute deal breaker (like starting with Llorente for example)
