You won’t go far wrong with a bit of balance & structure - 1 elite, 1 midprice, and 1 cheap per position. Then have the 11th man as a floater for whoever you want to punt on and whatever formation you want.

To play Tomkins with goal threat and have AWB as the non-playing 4.0.

I don't think many will double so it makes some sense - Tomkins has the fixtures to work in rotation and AWB is currently the most viable 4.0 defender.

It doesn’t take much (1 injury or even picking a player you think will start that falls out of favour) and it creates a lot of headache and you risk not fielding 11. I’ve started with a week bench with in previous seasons and regretted it very early

Unlikely. Can't think of teams who have loved forward without making signings.

Spurs attack is one dimensional and they have no ability to change things from the bench.

Also naive to think that spurs first team can't be improved. A midfield of dembele and dier is really poor at the top level. One spins in circles, the other passes it sideways.

As a Spurs fan it's a massive win for none of Kane, Alli, Eriksen and Sanchez being tapped up by other teams. Keeping our best players this summer was probably more important than recruiting. (Although CM is a bit of a crisis with injuries.)
