The preparation of the Fantasy Football Scout Community delved into a new level of detail as the Gameweek 1 deadline approaches.

There have been some excellent discussions in the comments this week and we’ve got plenty more articles and tables that should Fantasy managers out too.

We’ve gone over all of it in our latest Community Round-up

Community Articles

We had some excellent community articles this week as our pre-season preparation ramped up.

Rossi3245 produced two brilliant pieces this week. The first was an insightful piece on the dangers of using chips in the early Gameweeks while the second focused on an analysis of the FPL market. Both articles were well received.

With FPL Draft still something of an unknown to many Fantasy managers, Hooperman kindly put together a handy guide to running a successful league in that game mode.

We also made a start on our RMT Collection this week with Gregor revealing his team first before Spencer did so later in the week. This will be continuing with a new article every day until GW1 kicks off. Post your teams in the collection, instead of the main article, and give others some feedback!

The Hottest Topics

Mikeharbrw has gone in search of the goals again this week with two interesting Hot Topics. The first looked at teams most likely to produce a battering, the second at the opposite: whipping boys.

As expected, there has been plenty of debate over the issue of third strikers. Legomané started a conversation over whether they are a dying breed in FPL, Brosstan tried to find the best £6.5m option while Stat asked if people were considering Josh King.

We asked the community which players had been in drafts since the game launched, as well the age-old conundrum of which formation to play. Twisted Saltergater discussed the best tips for the season.

Interestingly, some seemingly established ideals were challenged this week too. Mikeharbrw asked whether David Silva is being overlooked by Fantasy managers and Your Mum’s Athletic questioned whether Manchester United defensive cover is essential for Gameweek 1. Eden Wizard went into detail about what the best midfielders offer this season.

We also had a discussion about Eliteserien’s return with Niemi starting things off by talking about Gameweek 17 transfers and captains.

There was a great conversation started by Mange Tout Rodney about FPL’s ability to distract those who play it from reality while RedArrows light-heartedly revealed his pet peeves when it comes to Fantasy Football terminology – especially the word ‘nailed’.

Which brings us nicely onto Deulofale‘s review of Arsenal and which of their players might be ‘nailed’. We hope RedArrows enjoyed that one!

Finally I issued some announcements about the site: the first was about gravs and RMTs, and the second and third related to our brand new badges and new default options on our profiles.

Members Tables

The FFS community continued its search for the ultamite budget players this week with two of members tables helping the discussion.

The-FPL-Physio looked at every striker under £7.0m, while Jonya55 honed in on the attacking statistics of midfielders valued at £5.0m or less.

Choppers13 drew up a table to help Fantasy managers use goal invovlement to find the right options for their squads.

Finally, Triggerlips produced a fantastic table entitled ‘Biggest Nut Jobs’ which focussed on headed attempts from defenders.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article and Tournament submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

Unintentionally we have all been neatly segregated into little groups.

Long-standing FPL managers with years of experience who demand to be listened to.

I have made 1 comment since the changes.
Can’t help thinking, rightly or wrongly, that my opinions won’t be respected as much on here anymore.
It’s probably completely unreasonable, but it’s just how I feel.
Can’t honestly see how it adds to the community...

You should not feel that way.If you make a good point it is just as important as some old fart that makes a good point.

I hope this is not putting off people that are new to the site posting their opinions.

I agree. I think that it is not the best thought out initiative. I can think of many more negative consequences from it than benefits to the site.

I'm sure noboudly would, but it's hard not to be paranoid about people thinking the site now has a loyalty-card system and that somehow means something. This is my second year as a member and have spent sooooo long advising people against Charlie Daniels that it now feels like it might be in vain. Not the biggest issue, clearly, but I also don't see the point.

Very few people have been doing this, and the reports that have come in have been people reporting you for doing this.

I'm fine if you'd like to have a discussion about it, but don't antagonize users.

The overwhelming reaction has been positive, with users mostly agreeing that number is less important than comment content.

      Brady (if not injured)
      Kenedy (Newcastle)
      Kennedy (Southampton)
One of the Wolves blokes might come good

Xhaka, Kante and Cork pretty much guaranteed starts, but not overly offensive players

Those of you currently have cedric in your squad please can you offer some reasoning behind why you have this southampton defender in your first 11? Im struggling to understand how he can be in so many teams yet I havent considered him even once after endless drafts! Please enlighten me...

You don't find so many players in the 4.5 category with that attacking threat and bonus point potential. Good fixtures aswell

      1. goldensock
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 8 months ago

I dont think southampton have any decent fixtures. They are one of the poorest teams in the league. I get the value aspect of a cheap attacking defender but clean sheet potential? I cant see them keeping many at all. But as you quite rightly say he is cheap. but as part of a back 3 for some teams? Really!?

There are way better options in terms of attack threat than him in the 4.5 range. He’s pretty trash.

He’s never scored a goal and in three years his total attacking threat equates to 8 assists. Hes only ever scraped over 100 points once (102, year before last).

tricky Q? As when planning such things may have a good start and not then need to WC-this yr obvs slightly diff with WC returning players, but I'd be leaning setting up for 4-6 weeks and keep WC in back pocket as long as poss......obvs if you have a bad start then for sure you can use it but not in favor of planning trnasfers or WC as rarely works out to plan as so many things change

Yeah I think so too, I think he'll be a lot better, also think Mahrez will do well under Pep so it's one of those.

Ozil will come in at some point, thinking more the safer combo to start with.

Pep's comments about 352 has made me put Walker AND Mendy in, if they play as wing back on Sunday, I'll start with it, if not I'll probably squeeze Aguero in.

Sorry I didn’t mean Aguero (c) could be ‘huge’ in terms of his ownership, I meant it as in I think that’s a game where we could see a monster haul and captaining him could really pay off.

If your not going to captain Aguero GW2 then I’d pick option B.

Obviously against the 'template' notion, but is it really strongly advised against selecting two forwards (Arn & Zaha) @7.0?
Just reading over the market article, saw specific mention to this price point, and in the past few years have turned out to be flops. But respective to Gabbiadini (and Austin) last year, Arnautovic and Zaha are capable (and likely will) of larger and more consistent returns.
If Everton get their act together and definitely could, Tosun could be a great fall-back. Obviously the biggest problem is if all of them flop, creating a transfer problem.
