The preparation of the Fantasy Football Scout Community delved into a new level of detail as the Gameweek 1 deadline approaches.

There have been some excellent discussions in the comments this week and we’ve got plenty more articles and tables that should Fantasy managers out too.

We’ve gone over all of it in our latest Community Round-up

Community Articles

We had some excellent community articles this week as our pre-season preparation ramped up.

Rossi3245 produced two brilliant pieces this week. The first was an insightful piece on the dangers of using chips in the early Gameweeks while the second focused on an analysis of the FPL market. Both articles were well received.

With FPL Draft still something of an unknown to many Fantasy managers, Hooperman kindly put together a handy guide to running a successful league in that game mode.

We also made a start on our RMT Collection this week with Gregor revealing his team first before Spencer did so later in the week. This will be continuing with a new article every day until GW1 kicks off. Post your teams in the collection, instead of the main article, and give others some feedback!

The Hottest Topics

Mikeharbrw has gone in search of the goals again this week with two interesting Hot Topics. The first looked at teams most likely to produce a battering, the second at the opposite: whipping boys.

As expected, there has been plenty of debate over the issue of third strikers. Legomané started a conversation over whether they are a dying breed in FPL, Brosstan tried to find the best £6.5m option while Stat asked if people were considering Josh King.

We asked the community which players had been in drafts since the game launched, as well the age-old conundrum of which formation to play. Twisted Saltergater discussed the best tips for the season.

Interestingly, some seemingly established ideals were challenged this week too. Mikeharbrw asked whether David Silva is being overlooked by Fantasy managers and Your Mum’s Athletic questioned whether Manchester United defensive cover is essential for Gameweek 1. Eden Wizard went into detail about what the best midfielders offer this season.

We also had a discussion about Eliteserien’s return with Niemi starting things off by talking about Gameweek 17 transfers and captains.

There was a great conversation started by Mange Tout Rodney about FPL’s ability to distract those who play it from reality while RedArrows light-heartedly revealed his pet peeves when it comes to Fantasy Football terminology – especially the word ‘nailed’.

Which brings us nicely onto Deulofale‘s review of Arsenal and which of their players might be ‘nailed’. We hope RedArrows enjoyed that one!

Finally I issued some announcements about the site: the first was about gravs and RMTs, and the second and third related to our brand new badges and new default options on our profiles.

Members Tables

The FFS community continued its search for the ultamite budget players this week with two of members tables helping the discussion.

The-FPL-Physio looked at every striker under £7.0m, while Jonya55 honed in on the attacking statistics of midfielders valued at £5.0m or less.

Choppers13 drew up a table to help Fantasy managers use goal invovlement to find the right options for their squads.

Finally, Triggerlips produced a fantastic table entitled ‘Biggest Nut Jobs’ which focussed on headed attempts from defenders.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article and Tournament submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

I hope the CS gives us some info in terms of how Chelsea will line up.

One of Pedro/Barkley/Fabregas has the potential to be the 6.5 dream.

Yeah, I'm not keen on any attacker under Mourinho. He even managed to ruin Sanchez.

Hopefully he goes asap and there's a new attack minded manager in November.

Surprised Hughes isn't more highly rated. Got over 50 points in about 1000 minutes. If he plays a whole season and keeps that up, from a likely 10 role, he will return about 160 or so points. Any thoughts appreciated.

Everybody chases last years cheap mids that are priced at 8.0 > 9.0 this year. What we should really chase are this years cheap mids that will be 8.0 > 9.0 NEXT YEAR....He may be one...but plenty of others to choose from...

I think the best use of the 4.0 keeper is to pair Stekelenburg with Pickford. OK, you always run with the Everton keeper, but if Pickford doesn't start the season you have their back-up keeper anyhow.

Pairing a 4.0 with an expensive keeper like De Gea or Ederson sounds fine until they miss a game for an unexpected reason.

Everton have a good run of fixtures to start with.

They finished 8th place last season and they may well perform better this season than you think. New manager now and Goodison Park is a tough place to play at for away sides. I'd say they will finish comfortably in the top half again, so for 9.0 outlay and in answering the original question, it's a reasonable solution.

Because his speed is scary and he has paired it with a consistent end product in the last year or two. At 7m, 150 or so points is a fine return indeed.

If having Zaha & Arnie allows you to have De Bruyne & Eriksen (or equivalent premium mids), consistent scorers, then they will be worth it. They are way better than most, if not all, sub 7m mids.

Have you ever watched him play in real life? Probably the most exciting creative player in the Prem.
Plus palace have kind fixtures, he wins loads of freekicks and pens (count as assists), scores a few, bonus points, assists, 90min every match. Best of the 7.0's for opening fixtures.
Struggle to find a 7.0 mid that will outscore him in opening fixtures.

I honestly am not even looking at anyone from there whatsoever. Can't get behind all this Richarlison hype. Happy enough for people to go for him. I'll get on the bandwagon when he's 7m come GW5 if it comes to it.

Rambo's expected back but 2 tricky fixtures. Keita could be great but pool spots are valuable. Bernardo could get a run but Pep has so many options.
Richy needs about 20 chances per goal so frustration at levels not seen since Matty Phillips! 😆

Lol, Matt Phillips. I'd forgotten about him. Rambo is my 7.5m right now. Fixtures don't really matter with him. In fact the harder the fixture, the more he's likely to grab a desperate consolation goal when everyone's given up. That injury is so annoying.

It is probably the right move, but I don't like playing the game with a 4-3-3 or 5-3-2. You'll score more but it's just too boring for me given we have just 1 measly sub each week. For me, watching a mid field transfer in score 7 points is somehow more fun than a Phil Jones 9 pointer.

Looking at Sarri at Napoli I reckon Chelsea line up during the season could bè this (obvs transfers are Still open):

    Curtouis
    Azpi Luiz Rudiger Alonso
    Kante Jorginho Barkley
    Pedro Morata Hazard

But I wouldnt be surprised if he will move Hazard upfront instead of Morata as he did with Mertens at Napoli.

willian will probably start as it appears he is now staying

Other than that, looks correct. Maybe emerson over alonso eventually as the season progresses

Sarri was playing Callejon on the right side at Napoli and he wants someone that covers in defense as well... I can see Pedro doing that better than Willian tbh... However Willian is a better footballer ... Alonso/Emerson is 50/50

Willian only just got back, don't think he will start right away while Pedro is playing well.
Could start both, but I have a feeling Hudson gets a go until hazard is back

They will sign someone else upfront.

          Hudson Will definitely get minutes.

Barkley will be great with Sarri this season

Thoughts on this team, trying something a tiny bit different :

    Patricio
    Coleman • VVD • Boly
    Sanchez • Salah • Eriksen • Richarlison • Hughes
    Kun • Zaha

Bench: Norris • Cedric • Wan B• Kamara

    1. Sterling is £11Mill..…

Yea I like it but Zaha has to much speculation about a move, Coleman I think will be a good pick at some point this season but not convinced its now.
What do you think of my team?

      Ederson
      VVD - Sakho - Cedric??
      Shaqiri - Salah - B.Silva - Sanchez - Mili
      Aguero - King
      Wan, Bennett, Quaner, ?

Defense isn't what I would pick but there's potential there.

    Anyone going without.
    Aguero (Rotation risk)
    Auba (Fixtures)
    Arnie (Position uncertain, Fixtures)
    Zaha (position uncertain)

And going with a toatally different forward line until some certainty emerges.

I have Auba and Zaha in my draft,
I'm without Arnie due to fixtures, and without Kun due to uncertainty.

First week I'm playing it a bit safer and will chop and change if necessary

Aguero worth the risk with one of the best runs of fixtures possible GW2-7 and could start alongside Jesus. Regardless, he gets returns off the bench too

Auba's fixtures are also great. City at home first game when they won't have KDB, Walker, Stones etc. (maybe no Fernandinho? idk when he is back but they concede more without him). Chelsea could be tough, but great fixtures after

Arnie proven to be fixtureproof and in great form, haven't heard anything about him not being played as a striker

While I'm avoiding Kane myself (ethical reasons!), feel he could be a good option from the off and could smash in a lot of goals in August. Haven't seen on one Rate My Team (hate acronyms).

Liverpool fans, whats the inside word on the Robertson v TAA debate. That extra mil could go a long way, but how much of a risk is TAA? Is he the first choice ahead of Clyne or it is a coin-toss?

Is Lacazette a viable option to start with (saving 1.5m compared to Aubameyang)? He has been in decent form coming into this season and I'm expecting Arsenal to have a good season, goal-scoring wise. What is everyone else's thoughts?

    1. Needo22
      • 10 Years

I think so. I've gone with Auba myself but from GW3 their fixtures open up. How Auba and Laca are included in the same XI is one concern. But I think he's a great shout and the 1.5m is a big saving to use elsewhere.

      1. MFPL
        • 10 Years

Exactly my thoughts, particularly with how they will both fit in the same XI. I think Aubameyang's captaincy potential helps him have the edge at the moment, however Lacazette is definitely putting himself into contention for FPL.

For sure. Putting together a GW1 team, my approach is safety over punt. It obviously depends how it affects the balance of your team, but if you can stretch the cash, a downgrade to Laca is a lot easier than an upgrade to Auba. Of course, the alternative is to wait out the first 2 GWs, and look at Pool or United until GW3

    Hi, which is better?

Could you go merge both options and go with Auba, Arnie, Zaha, Rich, Bailly & Tomkins? If you can, I personally think that is the better alternative.

      B. H2H Kun, Laca, Zaha, Cointoss, Bailly, Cointoss. So thats 3-1 to B.
