Personally i'd give him a miss. Awful player. I remember captaining Vardy v Hull a couple of seasons ago and realised the negative impact Iheanacho has on the team and on Vardy in comparison to the positive impact Okazaki has. Every time since too he has been disappointing.

Don't like any at that price bracket. Would rather go 4.5 fodder and upgrade elsewhere. Nacho and possibly Austin both transfers waiting to happen.

            Gw1 & 2

            Aguero - rotated/arsenal
            Aubameyang - laca/fixtures
            Kane - holiday
            Firm - got him already

            Lukaku - nailed/great fixtures

Sanchez is only 10.5 and is 100% certain to play. Possibly up front if Lukaku doesn’t play. Also can earn a point more per goal and a point for a clean sheet.

I'm sure once finances are on a better footing they'll return to the market and compete with their peers. Maybe next season.

      1. Goalosaurus
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 1 month ago

Alderweireld going to Man U might help them out with that. Was more thinking that they may actually play better in their own stadium, took awhile to get used to Wembley.

        1. Netley Lucas
          • 11 Years
          8 years, 1 month ago

The 2 go hand in hand though. While peers strengthen they stand still. Their depth is ok but not comparable so the impact of new stadium becomes a bit unclear until they get their act together fiscally.
If they can field a strong team most of the season and they play well they should improve a bit maybe over Wembley, but sometimes it takes a while to settle in.

Something I just remembered from last season about Bailly - even if we ignore the fact that Mourinho benched Bailly because he supposedly wanted to give the players going to the World Cup an opportunity to shine, Mourinho said that he started Lindelof instead of Bailly against Swansea because he's a better passer than Bailly and because "Lindelof is probably our center-back who comes into the midfield better with the ball".

So the issue is that if United sign a new CB, lets say Alderweireld, then it's possible that Bailly will be rotated in certain games based on the opposition. Even if they don't, it could still happen.

Having said all that, he's still in my team, but I might get Luiz instead if he starts tomorrow since I don't expect Sarri to rotate his defenders a lot.

I've got both of them, think I want to drop any united players though, they don't even have good fixtures to back up having them.

      1. stat
        8 years, 1 month ago

If they can replicate their defensive form from last season, which was heavily reliant on DDG exceeding all expectations, then it doesn't really matter who they're playing against. But DDG didn't look very good at the World Cup, and with their current defensive absences I think it could be best to avoid them.

However, I think Sanchez is still a good shout for the first couple of weeks. He's finally got to rest in the summer and has looked very sharp in pre-season. Easy switch to literally any other mid apart from Sterling + Salah, too.

He's 0.5m more expensive so it's not a straight swap, but yeah, Alderweireld at United would be a fantastic option.

Ramsey to Chelsea would give them a serious midfield. Kante the destroyer, Jorginho the architect, Ramsey the box to box mezella.

Is Mourinho right to have requested WC players to come back early and was it reasonable of him to be annoyed with Pogba for deciding not to and party in LA ( assuming press reports accurate)?

Outside of this sport, yes. Team first. However, there is a norm in football where this is different. From where I sit in USA, this is kinda odd (aside from selfish player contract holdouts, which is really petulant).

Nah. These guys work hard and deserve a break. Working them harder and encouraging them back to work earlier isn't necessarily productive in the long run. Have lost all respect for Mourinho.

On the bench is it better to have a £5m midfielder and two £4m defenders or at one £4.5 def and a £4.5 mid? I'm playing 343 fwiw.

with there being playing 4 mil defenders, I guess the 5 mil mid one. Neves/Cairney/Hughes/Costa all have chance of attacking returns imo, those 4,5 mids don't

    From Arsenal's homepage re. Monreal:
"But Nacho has not been ruled out of the Premier League opener next Sunday - yet.
“He arrived with no big injuries, but his knee has a little problem and he’s training everyday but not with the us,” said Emery.
“We don’t want the injuries but it’s one of those things that you can’t help. We have players like Nacho, but he arrived late from the World Cup and also has a small injury. It’s difficult for him to arrive for the match against Manchester City.
“For us we are trying to help Ainsley play in this position and, for me, I want to give confidence to all my players in their positions, then he can play in this position as best as possible."

      Even more worried defensively now.

Maitland-Niles is ok, perhaps better in midfield. He was vulnerable at full back last season - at least provides some pace at the back I guess.

He had some decent performances too, but against City andChelsea I wouldn't play any Arsenal defender. Those looking at Arsenal keepers might have to wait, as well:
"The best for the team is to have the best goalkeeper with the best performances. Every match we’ve had good performances from Petr Cech and Bernd Leno and also from Emi Martinez, and for that I am happy. I am on the lookout for who will start in the first XI."
