With less than a week to go until the 2018/19 Premier League season starts it’s time to start considering our Gameweek 1 Fantasy captains.

We’ve launched our first skipper poll of the season (below) for you to register who you think the best candidate is.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) is expected to be an early favourite given his pre-season form and a potentially favourable home fixture against new-look West Ham. However, Sadio Mané (£9.5m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) could receive some backing as the cheaper alternatives to the Egyptian.

Arsenal’s opening match against Manchester City should pull in plenty of interest for this conversation with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) and Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) in good form in pre-season and Sergio Aguero (£11.0m) netting a brace in Sunday’s Community Shield final.

Alexis Sánchez (£10.5m) and Juan Mata (£6.5m) are likely to be the most popular captain choices for Friday night’s opening match between Manchester United and Leicester City.

We have also included Harry Kane (£12.5m) although there is some doubt over whether he will feature against Newcastle United.

Two defenders who may pick up some traction are the duo that registered double-figure hauls on the final day of 2017/18 in Andrew Robertson (£6.0m) and Patrick van Aanholt (£5.5m).

The Dutchman’s colleagues Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m) and Luka Milivojevic (£6.5m) may also be considered with Crystal Palace a fashionable team for investment at the start of the season.

Make sure you vote in the poll below and tell us why you made your choice in the comments.

Wolves acquiring Traore could make things a bit complicated

Anyone worried about the rotation between Jota/Costa/Cavaleiro/Traore?

Traore will be developed into one of the greatest wing backs to ever exist

how crazy is it to go with 3 6.5 strikers ( mitrovic , gray , king )
and stock up in midfield salah sanchez eriksen sane ... im thinking about it for now might be crazy but also it could work in the short term to scope out whos in form and rotations

I was gonna do that until I decided I need Aguero in my team.

yeah aguero and auba (after week 2) are the only ones i really want , kane tends to start slow always

It could make it hard to jump onto a premium striker doing well.

How do you get Kane in come September, if he’s doing well?

Would anyone care to try and predict Wolves opening day XI? What formation are they likely to play?

    1. Ask Yourself
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 28 days ago

      Jota jiminez Costa
      Jonny Neves Moutinho Doherty
      Boly Coady Saiss
      Patricio

      1. Miguel Sanchez

I've read some Wolves fans saying Bennett could get the nod (at least for the opening game) as the 3rd cb as Saiss has looked a bit ropey when played there.

    I’m doing a slightly different league with work this year. Make a team, no transfers, chips, WC all year. Only subs. This is what I’m currently on;

    Patricio Fabianski
    Azpilicueta VVD Tarkowski Cedric Wan-B
    Eriksen Salah Cairney Neves Kenedy
    Aubameyang Arnie Firmino

Obviously looking for players who are nailed & not injury prone. No City is worrying but don’t trust rotation.

    Any suggestions?

If my years has taught me anything it's that same player who was "nailed" and "essential" this week can easily be "a rotation risk" and "a failed pick" the next.

Take the advice here and make your own judgement based on the information you have. Nobody really knows what is going to happen in gameweek 1 no matter how hard they try to tell you a certain scenario will.

It is so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of praise for one player and you get them in with the fear of missing out on points, that in my opinion is where mistakes happen. Play the game the way you want and pick the players "you" think are good picks.

Bilva actually had a great game yesterday and looked fully fit. Pep’s words were just reassuring that hes first choice for now.

I was also on Mahrez before but seeing him subbed at 68’ was a bummer.

Very much in agreement. Over the course of the season, posters will usually moan ‘I shouldn’t have listen to..’ or ‘I should have taken xxx advice’. Ultimately it’s our own judgement call.

Last year he scored 112 points in half a season of football.. this year he is supposed to be more important to them so should do better. You just got to ask your self . Do you have the patience to sit through 1 pointers/no shows , the nerve to second guess team sheets and does the thoughts of a healthy ppm on average over 5 games make you happy even though they come in the form of 7,0,6,1,10? If you feel you can handle him go ahead. I know for a fact that o won't be able to and I'll start panicking after gw1 .. hence why I prefer boring certainty in finding the money to upgrade /downgrade to a steady 90 mins player.

                8 years, 28 days ago

                Definitely.

3 assists and looking awesome pre season.

6 goals/5 assists in under 2000 mins for Leipzig last season, should play more minutes and score considerably better in this attacking Liverpool team.

                But, we'll see!

      Firmino.

Mane's record points total is only 5 more than Firmino's record low. Firmino has less competition. Outscored him by 34 points last season and 24 the one before. I see no reason why this trend shouldn't continue.

Indeed. I'm keen to have one player in my team who's a bit of a wildcard. My team last season was uber logical and very quickly fell apart. Zaha being crap, for example. So I feel compelled to break the template a little bit and throw in one calculated punt. Moura fits the bill – different but not crazy

Schurrle. Sessegnon might play in defence and Mitrovic isn't that good and a card magnet.

For me all Fulham assest seem to be priced 0.5 too high. I'd co for Mitro perhaps, if any.

Andre Gray anyone? 3 goals in 4 for preseason and three decent fixtures. Not bad for early WCers

Who is better for the first 2 GWs, Benteke or Morata? Have Aguero, already 3 LIV players, don't want Zaha, Vardy and Lakazet from third GW.

Agree.. can’t help to think Morata’s decision to switch numbers is a sign to relieve himself from the height expected of him being Chelsea’s #9

Jeffrey Schulpp - what do you guys think? Nailed or sharing pitch time with perhaps Soare?

So what is the definitive answer to these conundrums?

    Arnie, Zaha or King?

    B.Silva, Mkhi, Moura or Richarlison?

    Correct answers appreciated

Arnie and Gross imo, both high % goal involvement last season for their teams. I perfer that combo to start with as to me, looks like lower risk. You can always change later once you know the lay of the land
