How premium options compare with best-ever FPL scores: Sergio Aguero

As Fantasy Premier League managers consider breaking up the template of premium options ahead of upcoming fixture swings, we continue our latest series.

We are comparing some of the more expensive options on offer against their best-ever FPL scores to see whether they are justifying their price.

After studying Harry Kane (£12.4m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.2m) earlier this week, we now move on to Manchester City’s talismanic striker Sergio Aguero (£11.4m).

Aguero’s best-ever FPL score came in the 2014/15 season when he scored 26 goals and assisted a further 10. His exploits in front of goal earned him the Premier League Golden Boot award.

Those figures combined for a total score of 216 points, with 27 of them coming through the bonus points system.

Having scored eight times in the first 12 Gameweeks of 2018/19, a continuation of his current strike rate, 0.67 goals per game, would see him reach 25 goals for the campaign.

That would be one short of his best-ever Premier League goal tally, but he could easily beat his personal best for assists if he keeps up his form.

Registering six in the first 12 Gameweeks of 2018/19 means Aguero is averaging 0.5 per game, setting the potential for recording 19 by next May.

Crucially, the Manchester City striker is currently recording 6.67 points per game, this season. If he continues at that rate and avoids any injuries or rotation then he could record a total score of 253 points.

That would set a new career-high FPL season tally for Aguero, a truly incredible possibility considering his rich pedigree in the game.

    How much of a better option is Alonso than laporte?

    I always seem to catch Chelsea players at the wrong time - bought hazard 3 or 4 weeks ago for instance.

    Does the attacking threat outweigh the extra cash and ft I'd need to use to get him (Wilson to jiminez)?

      Alonso is a set and forget player, I've never had the patience with him. Always done me wrong Alonso, get him in for a few weeks and he blanks then I get rid and he starts his hauls. I hate him but will likely try to get him after Tottenham game

      Yeah worth it imo. Almost scored last game. A bit annoying for you that he's 7.1 now because you'll kind of expect an attacking return from him almost every week and he won't get that. But Chelsea are keeping clean sheets fairly often, so can't complain. Wilson to Jimenez looks good for now too.

      Isn’t Alonso the highest points scorer in the game at the moment ? More than Hazard, Salah, Kun & Sterling ? On that basis seems a better option than anyone ?

        He is, the problem is he isn't always easy to get in (e.g see the OP,) and people are reluctant to do this sort of restructuring for a player they are never going to captain. This is why many WCed early to get RAM in.

        Wanted Trippier anyways so don't see any point in going for Digne or Laporte if I can play AWB and Doherty for a couple of weeks instead. Expect Trippier to miss a game or two over the pile up but those fixtures are too good to pass up for Spurs.

        Feels like these articles are here to just fill up space during the IB. I doubt anyone will make decisions based on these numbers/stats. In 4 yrs managers change, tactics change, opponents change and the way FPL(Opta) awards points are different.
