Fantasy Premier League managers face one of the hardest captaincy decisions of the season so far in Blank Gameweek 27.

The absence of fixtures for Manchester City and Chelsea, who were originally scheduled to play favourable opposition in Everton and Brighton, has removed several options from the debate already.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Liverpool, two clubs who normally provide a handful of captain candidates each week, go head-to-head at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

That leaves Fantasy managers with the choice of either boldly handing the armband to one of those players or to look elsewhere.

Arsenal are currently the popular alternative in the search for a captain this week, but with many managers avoiding the Gunners for longer-term reasons, and plenty of viable alternatives elsewhere, we could see a whole host of different skippers this weekend.

As usual, we’ve had a look at the results of our latest poll, analysed each popular player, and some of the less fashionable options, using our members’ data and assessed the offensive and defensive statistics of all the teams involved to find the best candidates.

Captain Poll

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) is this week’s poll leader ahead of Southampton’s trip to the Emirates Stadium. The absence of Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) and the meeting between Liverpool and Manchester United will have played a part in Aubameyang’s popularity for this Gameweek, amassing 32% support at the time of writing. Although he has just one goal in the last five Gameweeks, you do have to go back to Gameweek 16 for the last time he failed to find the net at home against a side outside the top six.

Son Heung-min‘s (£9.0m) trip to Burnley has captured the attention of a healthy number of Fantasy managers too. His case appears to be centred around form rather than fixture, the South Korean averaging 8.9 points per appearance since Gameweek 13.

Felipe Anderson (£7.2m) heads up a crop of differential options as West Ham prepare to host the worst defence in the Premier League this season: Fulham. The Brazilian does only have one attacking return in his last seven outings, but the appeal of a home match against such poor opposition may be too much to resist for his owners. Currently, the West Ham midfielder has the backing of 9% of our voters.

Just behind Anderson is Liverpool’s star man Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) on 7% ahead of a trip to Old Trafford. The Egyptian’s form may have slowed a little in recent weeks but he still has six double-figure hauls in the last 11 Gameweeks and remains a key FPL asset to own. The fact that Manchester United are still without a clean sheet at home under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may suggest that Sunday’s encounter may not be as tricky as first thought for Salah and his Liverpool attacking colleagues.

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) also features in the top five captain candidates for Blank Gameweek 27 according to the poll. The 6% who have backed the Frenchman may have found themselves a shrewd option here. Lacazette was not involved in Thursday night’s Europa League action for Arsenal, which gives him a slight edge over Aubameyang, in terms of security of start.

A few more managers are proving bold enough to look to that Old Trafford showdown as 3.8% have voted for Paul Pogba (£8.8m). The Manchester United midfielder has blanked just once since Solskjaer took over and has averaged 12 points per game at home in that time. With Liverpool’s defence not quite as strong as it was earlier in the season, Pogba looks the most likely of any Red Devil to breach them.

Some slight interest in Marko Arnautovic (£6.8m) confirms the popularity of West Ham’s home match against Fulham. 2.5% have selected the Austrian as the best captain candidate for Blank Gameweek 27 despite the fact he has started just once in the last four Gameweeks.

Salomón Rondón (£5.8m), Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m) and Callum Paterson (£5.0m) are the only other options above 1% while Harry Kane (£12.4m) is not far behind them on 0.9% backing.

    Thoughts here please

    A - Richarlison/Rashford to Hayden/Lacazette(C)

B - Shaw/Aguero to Lascelles/Lacazette(C) (Son to Sterling next week)

    C - Shaw/Richarlison to Lascelles/Anderson(C)

Maybe but don’t see Chel/Arsenal that dodgy tbh, I don’t think it’s worth a transfer.. better off playing 10 men GW31 than a hit to remove

Same as you Le God, I have Lloris and Button, I was thinking of just doing Button to Boruc so I have a playing keeping in 31, but if I do Lloris to Boruc if gives me better options in midfield.
Lloris with Arsenal, and Chelsea doesn't really fill me confidence of expected CSs.

-4 to do Aguero to Lacazette for GW27 and 28?

If so my transfer next week will be Son to Sterling to cover Man City fixtures from GW28 - 30.

As I fear he may be benched vs. West Ham.

Sterling from 28-30 would then also cover City attack.

    Arsenal play 3 games in a week, minutes could be managed;
    Sunday 24 - Southampton
    Wednesday 27 - Bournemouth
    Saturday 02 - Spurs (away)

Will likely still captain Auba, then he's out for Aguero next week

Manuel Pellegrini delivered his press conference on Wednesday and brought news that Manuel Lanzini (knee) and Samir Nasri (calf) have returned to training.

The West Ham United boss said the pair “maybe” have a chance of featuring against Fulham, though there was no update forthcoming on Fabian Balbuena (knee).

What combo is better for gw27-gw31?

    1. Auba McNeil sterling Lejuene for -4
means I can captain Auba this week , ML leader has Aubaand will most likely C him

2.Aguero yedlin barnes son for free
Means I need to captain Son and play Barnes vs CP

    Current team is:
    Fab
    Pereira robbo awb (schindler digne)

    Rashford Jimenez (Kamara)

Think you should take this opportunity to sort your keeper situation. 27/31/33 perhaps Keeperless

Probably free hitting in 31 and bench boost in 32 so that's covered. Thinking palace keeper as he plays this week and will have hopefully a double in 32 and if Watford beat them a game in 33.

I can just about field 11 this week

My GW31 is awful with only 4 players and need to up that. 2FTs this week to start that process. I have all my chips and fairly certain I'm clear on my strategy. 1.1ITB

It's my Pool/Defensive players i have a questions on: Salah, Robbo, TAA

Def is: Doh; Robbo; TAA; AWB; Bednerak

    1. Is a double up Pool defence worth it or better off to double up in the front 8 somewhere?
    2. If answer to (1) is 'no', which Pool defender do you lose?

Personally I think the answer to (1) is no. I've had Robbo since day 1 so good value in him and would want him back. Or, keep TAA and free up some funds for upgrading elsewhere.

    1. Eytexi
      • 7 Years
      7 years, 6 days ago

I'd rather have Mane/Bobby than double defence, but can you spare the transfer to sell a BGW31 player? I'd keep Robbo unless you need the money.

        I know, a problem!

Ideally it wouldn't be a GW31, but with funds limited to make much impact on Bednerak, Doh to retain for a few weeks yet until fixtures turn and AWB still an enabler - it leaves the two Pool boys.

If i don't do something, I lose one of the 2FTs this week which also impacts how many players i can get for 31. The rest of the team is ok for 27, 28 and 29.

Appreciate the feedback and the decision on Robbo and going to a second attacker from Pool

Currently sitting just outside the top 1K. Still undecided on my chip plan.

    1FT 0.2ITB.

    Fabianski
    VVD / Laporte / Shaw / Bednarek / WanB
    Salah / Pogba / Richarlison
    Jiminez / Rashford

    Hamer / Billing / Hazard / Kun
