Great Expectations

Just before the start of the 2019/20 season, Brighton and Hove Albion signed Leandro Trossard (£6.0m) for a fee of around £15m.

I was very excited: he had just come off the back of the best season of his career, registering 14 goals and seven assists for Genk as they won the Belgian top flight.

His skilful playstyle and favoured position on the left wing combined with his Belgian nationality inevitably drew comparisons to the departing Eden Hazard.

Trossard tried to distance himself from the hype, but I couldn’t help but think we had pulled off a real coup.

The player said about himself:

I like one against ones. I’m quite fast, turning. I hope I can show you so you know how my style is.

Now reflecting on Trossard’s first season in the Premier League, I’ve been left a bit disappointed, both by Trossard’s overall performances (bar a couple of decent goals and display) and how I feel Potter has used him throughout the campaign.

I’m going to use this article to take a look at Trossard in more detail and hopefully, give a bit more insight into how I expect Albion to line up next season – and who (if any) of the Brighton boys we should be considering for our 2020/21 squads.

Totally agree cases are rising again across Europe and it's still summer, chances of the PL getting though the winter unscathed are remote.

Yes, but its weaker and weaker, there is no more excess deaths and its totally under control. Doctors have now a lot more knowledge on how to treat it, whta works best. So, there is no need for fear mongering anymore, right?

If we play 4-4-2 I’m guessing James play on the right with Walcott as backup.
Doucoure,Allan in the middle with Gomes,Siggy as back up
Bernard,Iwobi,Gordon on the left which looks weak to me.

Unless we revert back to 4-2-3-1.

Been stuck on fernandes and kane (with soucek). Going martial and son, and upgrading soucek to Ziyech makes sense? Or would allow Davies to Robertson and leave money spare.

Doherty is a not much of a creator, he's more of goalscorer. Tarkowski created better chances than him last season.

Wrong. He gets into fantastic positions and creates clear chances as a result.

          5 years, 11 months ago

Wrong. He created 2 big chances last season, Tarkowski created 6. His xA was 2.06, compared to Tarkowski's 2.19.

            • 7 Years

I think he means that he creates space for the striker simply by being in the vicinity which is a fair point and something that you can't measure. I don't think it's implausible to suggest that Jimenez enjoys more space because of Traore and Doherty stretching the defence around him.

            1. Piggs Boson
              • 14 Years
              5 years, 11 months ago

Ah, apologies if I misunderstood TPIOF.

Will his positioning create any more space than Aurier did?

                5 years, 11 months ago

I'm not sure, from watching both Doherty tends to make more runs in the box and Aurier holds width but Doh usually has Traore to do that and might be asked to play differently, all guesswork.

In terms of xA per app, there are over 20 defenders ahead of him. Wasn't a creative powerhouse at Wolves by any means.

Be interesting to see how that changes at Spurs though.

Imho yes. He is their best player. Can't see Haller taking his place unless Antonio is in a bad form. Pre-season matches should clarify it a bit though.

Haller scored a hat trick yesterday but West Ham played two games and both Haller an Antonio played as the CF so suggests they are competing for one spot

In isolation yes, but it depends what it allows you to do elsewhere in your team.

I have kane and fernandes. Going martial and son saves 3m and turns soucek in to Ziyech. Feels like that 3 scores more points.

Both Haller & Antonio will start together, they aren’t competing for one spot at all. Haller will play as a striker & Antonio will either play off of Haller or on the wing.

For me, yes. Mourinho has punted son wide, he's still good enough to get points and by the end of the season was playing upfront but I expect him to go back to sticking to the wing, especially with Alli back

"Is Bruno worth 1.5 more than Son?"
"Is Son worth 1m more than Ziyech?"

"Is Kane worth 1m more than Werner/Martial?"
"Is Kane worth 2m more than Jimenez/Ings?" etc etc.

Son vs Kane won't help you decide since they play in different positions. Is Son and Jimenez better than Armstrong and Kane? This will be easier to answer if Kane is worth it or not.

Such a shame, Trossard. He'd make a mockery of his FPL price tag if it wasn't for Potter.

    Re-post (lost on previous thread)

    Which is better:

    a) McCarthy/Davies (Dier)
    b) Leno/KWP

I was on A for ages but not sure about McCarthy, then moved to B, but I’m now on lloris/KWP

Same, but Forster's return has sown the seeds of doubt.

Lloris a great pick but can't afford him (without breaking the rest of my team). I think Arsenal will be stronger this season so liking Leno at 5.0

Anyone going Kane and Werner up top.. Would probably have to sacrifice a big hitter in mdf..

I've got both + Vardy. A calculated risk

I've got both, with Salah and KDB in midfield. Seems enough to me.

    A) 352 with ASM
    B) 343 with Mitro

Mitro will likely outscore ASM and you are likely to have a more nailed 4.5m midfielder than a 4.5 forward so B

I have to agree with this. B. Although I would ask the Patrician. He'll know.

Palace or maybe abroad. Not sure many english teams want or can afford him.

He didn't have a great season and clubs will be forced to overpay for him, probably sticks at palace. If he goes I think they are locks for relegation.
