Following the drama of 2020/21’s first eight Gameweeks, Fantasy Premier League managers finally have some emerging trends and patterns to inform our decisions moving forward.

With fixture swings occurring soon, what does the data tell us to do with our Spurs assets for Gameweek 9? Which defences are worth investing in and which fixtures are now favourable for potential captains?

We have taken a deep dive into the numbers from Gameweeks 5 to 8 to find the answers to these questions.

As this uses extensive data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

    McCarthy Button
    Chillwell James Ayling CTaylor Mitchell
    Mane Bruno Son Soucek Bissouma
    DCL Kane Bamford
    1ft 1.7itb

    Plan is:
    GW9 - Son to Grealish
    GW10 - Kane and Bissouma - KDB and Watkins/Antonio

    Look ok?

Picked him early, prefer him as a player. May be proved wrong but dont know if I want to waste a transfer on that sideways move. Maybe when I wildcard

What makes people think that Bruno gonna haul vs wba? I thought he's better away from OT. Plus wba did tremendous defending against Spurs the other day

And Spurs' played terrible. Hard to say really. One minute I want to bring him in. The next I don't. At least I got time to tinker

      Agreed.
I can just imagine Maguire and Lindelof running into each other and falling in a heap as Robinson puts a shot through DDG's legs while at the other end Johnstone makes double figure numbers of saves and stops a pen.

I agree entirely, although people here sometimes really do jump after one good performance from a player. I've had him since the start but before last week considered getting rid after WBA and still am. He seems to have always preferred playing away in the PL but regardless MU are all over the place from week to week so you can't really rely on him, and their fixtures aren't exactly stellar. If they pick up form he's an easy set and forget but because they're not reliable right now I can't see the rush. Then again Bellerin was the next "essential" last week, wonder how that's gone down now.

I dont think hes going to haul but I think he seems likke a season keeper, might as well bring him in now as they're facing one of the worst teams in the league

Dunno bout his stats, but he scored double digits from GW3 onwards,
except against Tottenham (45mins played), Chelsea & Arsenal (defensively solid from what I read at that point)

      That's scary

Don't quite get the "as Chelsea’s fixtures improve" part of the Ziyech comments.

I wouldn't say new/TOT/LEE/eve is much of an improvement on SOU/mun/bur/SHU and their fixtures are worse again beyond that, ranked 2nd worst for attack over the next 10gws.

There are a lot of reasons to like Ziyech but fixtures isn't really one of them.

    1. Fulchester's New Centr…

True, but Newc and Leeds hardly watertight and Chelsea playing so well.

I agree with your point, but at 8 million and Chelsea being the first big team to actually click, I think tougher opponents will be looking to score and won't be parking a bus. I'll definitely be playing him every week but just not Captaining him for the harder matches.

Problem with Chelsea is that I can see points are going to be shared by the attackers. Plus they are not going to score 4 goals every GW.

      People tend to forget that.

Not to mention Chelsea seem to be more defensive orientated recently... the tougher fixtures will not help their cause.

Hamez or Ziyech for Son? Ziyech looks slightly the better pick but hard to ignore Hamez fixtures while Chelsea fix look half good.

    1. Fulchester's New Centr…

I think Ziyech first. Hamez played poorly in the last game so I'd wait until he shows some form. That being said, Fullham are probably more obliging than Newcastle...

There are some other benefits to Hamez too - he's more nailed in that team, whereas Chelsea have plenty of midfield options - not that I don't think Ziyech will mostly play when fit - it's just that we shouldn't be surprised to see rotation and rest for CL games.

Thoughts on the following? Got an awkward sum itb with no super clear moves. Will want enough left itb for Zouma to City def GW10.

    1FT 1.6m ITB WC available

    McCarthy (Button)
    Chilwell Zouma Taylor (Justin Mitchell)
    Salah Son Sterling ASM (Bissouma)
    Werner DCL Watkins

ASM is the biggest issue with the above IMO, but no mid up to 6.9m really interests me (Jota? Bowen? Barkley?) Too risky to go Spursless with Son to Bruno (C)?

    1. Fulchester's New Centr…

Thoughts on this WC first draft?

    Martinez

    Chilwell - Targett - Justin

On a WC I'd downgrade Werner to get Ziyech or go Chilwell, Cresswell, Cancwello defence.

The Gomez news is the final nail in Robbo’s coffin for me. Probably should have pulled the trigger already. Am looking to downgrade to fund a move for KDB. Others defenders are: Chillwell, Coufal, Lamptey and Mitchell.

    Who would you bring in?

          ... It makes no difference.

If Targett is the best defender option at 4.5m - which he is, get him... Only reason not to put Targett is if you want double Villa attack in Grealish + Watkins.

I'm going for KWP, I still can see them conceding against a good team that can exploit the high line but they've looked a lot better defensively lately.

    Martinez, 4.0
    Robertson, Saiss, Kilman, Micthell, Dunne
    Salah, Mane, Son, Barkley, Lookman
    Kane, Jimenez, Brewster

No wildcard, 1ft and nothing in the bank.

My team is on it's ass. Arguably 2 or 3 might make into the current wildcard team. Miles behind on the likes of Ziyech, Chilwell, Grealish etc I'm going to have to hope the likes of Mane and Jimenez up their game and they turn into the next bandwagon. Roberton needs to go but at least he will start next week so Saiss out is priority.

Thinking Kane > DCL and Saiss > Chilwell - 4

    Suggestions welcome!

      Just focus on plugging holes.

Saiss > James this week. Next week take a hit to bring in KdB and all of a sudden your team doesn't look that bad.

      GW9 - Saiss > James
GW10 - Jimi + Son > KdB + Watkins/Bamford and you're on track. You also wield some nice differentials in Mane, Barkley and Lookman.

Your call. I think he's worth the risk. The number and quality of crosses he puts in is very high. Has also started 3 in a row. More if you count Champions League. The price difference of 1.0m is significant.

I think Chilwell only slightly less likely to be rested. They can play Emerson or even swap Azpi to LB occasionally.

I don't. Fabinho can play RB as well which would open a spot for Phillips. My point is that we don't know how Pool will lineup and as TAA might only be out for a few gameweeks, taking a punt on any cheap Liverpool defender is risky

Hello all. A bit lost on what to do here with a few different directions I could go. 1FT 1.6 ITB. Robbo, Saiss, Podence, Davis (to enable a 3rd Villain), one of Son/Kane all could be on the chopping block this week

    Martinez (Steer)
    Robbo Coufal Lamptey (Saiss Mitchell)
    Salah Son Ziyech JRodriguez Podence
    Kane DCL (Davis)

    Was thinking of either:
    A) Son to Bruno (maybe Robbo to Chilwell hit too)
    B) Kane Podence Robbo/Saiss —> Antonio/Bamf/Watkins Bruno Chilwell (-8)
    But open to suggestions 🙂

Could point yeah, could have some injury/COVID enforced moves. Thankfully have enough ITB that price changes shouldn’t really lock me out and I can wait.

No Grealish has been annoying me yeah, but as you say difficult to fix. Easiest way I see without 3 up top would be Brewster in for Davis and then Hamez or someone to Grealish, but then that’s an extra 2 moves that aren’t even at the top of my list (see above) rn
