Football is back and we could hardly have asked for a better start from a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) perspective.

Goals were flying in all over the place, so I figured I’d start the week with a good stats dive into the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area.

FPL points predictions for Gameweek 3 and beyond 3

WHICH PLAYERS CAUGHT THE EYE?

In terms of expected goal involvement (xGI), Michail Antonio (£7.5m) was the stand-out performer of the round with a 0.58 higher total than second-placed Christian Norgaard (£5.0m).

However, it is worth noting that Antonio’s non-penalty expected goals (non-pen xG) total was just 0.70, and as a result, he ranks eighth in that specific metric.

No player was afforded more big chances (three) than the Hammers’ frontman, but having missed his penalty he may no longer be the designated taker moving forward.

A popular target when the game launched, Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.0m) ranks third for non-pen xG (0.94) and no player across all positions took more shots in the box than the Toffees’ striker in Gameweek 1 (five).

Only Kieran Tierney (£5.0m) created more chances than Paul Pogba‘s (£7.6m) five. However, just one of the Frenchman’s five attempted assists was a big chance created and he also fluffed a golden opportunity when put through on goal in the first half.

Adama Traore (£6.0m) really should have got on the scoresheet, too. The pacy winger took four shots in the box and was the biggest xG underperformer (0.81) of the Gameweek. He’s certainly one to monitor if he is going to be used in a similar role by Bruno Lage going forward.

Said Benrahma (6.0m) was a popular pick on the Fantasy Football Scout boards and the Algerian notched an xGI total of 0.51, which does not rank in the top 25 across all positions. He scored from his only shot on target, while the sole chance he created was converted, so he is one to monitor as well.

WHICH PLAYERS NUMBERS ARE CONCERNING?

That’s all for now! We will be delving deeper into this data and more on The FPL Wire tomorrow. All my custom stats tables used in the article can be accessed in the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, and I’ve linked them below for convenience:

Really hoping Mahrez plays this week. I knew Pep roulette would be uncomfortable and but I don't have the stomach for it. A couple more GW and ill be moving him on.

I think if one has a City attacker (apart from Gundo obviously) you have to stick and pray they start vs Norwich. After which you throw them out of your team.

      Disclaimer: I don't have one.

Yup…I have Mahrez. Will swap him in GW3 for Son or someone else. Don’t have a stomach for Pep roulette either.

Hey guys, thinking of shipping Gundo out, and I have 0.5 ITB. Who should I choose? Already have Benrahma and Barnes..

    A) Grealish - should be safe from pep roulette for now?
    B) Raphinha
    C) Harrison
    D) Greenwood

      Greenwood looks a good pick.

Probably an off option but a Spurs asset like Lucas could be an interesting pick. Played an excellent game vs City, and his next 3 look good.

In the same situation except dont have the 0.5

Im thinking B or D, slight lean to B. With the 0.5 Grealish could work, bit risky for future GWs though

Yeah, the Norwich fixture looks great on paper for City attackers but the roulette is always making things difficult. In the previous comment Mark mentioned an interesting option in Lucas. May be worth a look 🙂

      Greenwood

The player I'm most likely to make a transfer if I wanted to (I don't), looks to be playing up top with Southampton, Wolves and Newcastle in his upcoming three fixtures. Like the look of him but there is a worry that United have plenty of options to replace him if performances dip.

Pogba may hit 7.7 this week, and that's without him being more than sporadically considered by the fpl community. If he scores 7+ this week, I can see a few heads being turned. If he hauls again, I expect him to be 8.0 after the international break.

Pogba not shown any consistancy previous seasons. I need to see alot more before turning my head. Also Sancho, Cavani, Rashford are soon back. If they play better he might not even hit the squad

I took a chance with Alonso from gw1. I need to keep on playing him now I think - Mbeumo will come in if he doesn't´play. What is the risk Alonso will come in for the last few minutes of the match?

I think either way you gotta risk starting him. Pretty good potential of a CS and maybe even attacking returns against a poor Arsenal side.

Chilwell's only got the 1 match under his belt, a friendly against Wymouth. May see Alonso get 1 more start if we're lucky.

2x 4.0 defenders scares me. Could be that neither are playing in two weeks easily - then you have no cover (though the other three are nailed and you’d want to play each week)

          How so? Form the 4.0s?
Unless Robbo is out long term then Tsimikas is 100% going to the bench and not playing.
Even if Livramento plays every game it’s for one of the worst teams in the league.

I see tiny upside potential in either of them, and an extra 0.5 you save is hardly a lot.

All the comentery suggest its his spot to lose and it looks like they want to off load Aurier. However I understand he's injury prone and Doherty will be knocking on the door.

His next nine fixtures are arguably the best of any striker in the game, we know how attacking Leeds are, we know he's nailed, we know how good he is from last season, he isn't even that expensive. Unless your team is flawless already and you want to tinker with sideways moves like Bamford to DCL then I would keep him.

Sanchez probably slightly ahead, but very difficult to say. Nuno may want Dier's experience next to him for a while.

According to the Athletic, he played 75% of the time in the middle of Atalanta's back 3. Not sure where we played for Argentina.

Sorry, it's an unhelpful answer, but it's probably too early to tell. My guess is he plays LCB next to Sanchez.

Being a trap for years, I am currently looking at Moura as my Gundo replacement...

Otherwise may need to sacrifice Ings vs BRE next week to do Gundo/Ings to Son/Dennis

    1. RogDog_jimmy
      • 5 Years
      5 years, 13 days ago

This seems like classic overthinking that leads to a bad decision.

If you’re trying to upgrade Gundo to Son then I think it’s smart - just accept you can’t do everything at once. Roll and play an extra defender and next week do the moves.
Or wait another week to get the awesome fixtures out of Ings.

Gundo down to a 5.5 just takes you away from Son.

    2. Gingerman
      • 6 Years
      5 years, 13 days ago

Sounds like bad decision making to me, I certainly won't be getting rid of Ings before those 2 games. Plenty of options for Gundo if you must.

Calling all Spurs fan... are Skipp and Tanganga likely to feature heavily in the defence this season?
    Both looked good against City

I hope so. But I am not a Spurs fan, just a FPL manager trying to pick up some gems. Hahaha

The commentators said Tanganga was selected over Doherty because they needed to prioritise defense over attack. No idea about Skipp

Damn was gonna get him in but those comments make you think he’ll be rotated depending on whether they want to defend or attack. After his performance against Grealish and Sterling I would like to think it’s his spot to lose.

are west ham expected to buy a player like a lingard which would hinder benrahma minutes or is he a safe bet to play 60+ each game?

    1. b91jh
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 13 days ago

Fornals and Antonio are the locked ones in Moyes' system, regardless of a front 3 or 4 formation. Expect to see 3-way rotation between Bowen, Benny and Lingard for the remaining attacking spots considering European football.

    2. Gingerman
      • 6 Years
      5 years, 13 days ago

There is still talk of Lingard coming in so we'll have to wait and see. If Benrahma keeps putting in the performances he should be fairly safe but they also have Europa league to face so ratation could be a big factor later on.

    3. Miguel Sanchez
      • 10 Years

Benrahma becomes a major rotation risk if they sign Lingard and when European football starts for them

I think they’ll get Lingard eventually. Asking price is 25m

I got Benhrama for 4 GWs. After that the fixtures turn and Europe kicks in. At that point they need to rotate with a squad that is not adequate for the purpose. So I'm happy to play him for the next 3 games.

Want DCL now all the rumours about Everton have proved false.

    Transfer conundrum is...

    A. straight swap for Ings
    B. downgrade Raphina to Mbeuno to fund it for a hit

    Thoughts?

Richie and DCL both injured first followed a few days before deadline by 5 un-named players down with Covid

    2. Fabreghastly

      My thoughts are...

      A. If I knew Everton were good I wouldn't have replaced DCL with Ings in the first place
Ings hasn't inspired me with confidence and he'll be gone for Lukaku soon anyway

      B. Rapha was a lazy pick I wasn't convinced by
Not keen on a hit but I like Mbeumo and don't have Toney
Easier to get Luka later if I keep Ings now

      1. Andy_Social
        • 14 Years
        5 years, 13 days ago

Might as well stick with Ings and sell for Lukaku as planned. Ings has 2 upcoming fixtures that are too good to lose him now.
Raph - he did well enough and was never expected to haul at Old Trafford. I'd just keep my nerve in your position.

Everton played Southampton who are going to struggle this year. Villa didn’t have Watkins to run the lines. I’d leave it a week or two.

If Wolves are playing with a reported higher line it could be very tempting to stick with Bruno. Watford played quite a low block defensive line in the Championship last season which could frustrate Spurs.

I made the same mistake although had reasonable gameweek because of West Ham and Son.

I did Mane > Bruno Saturday evening, could n’t afford if there was a price change (which there subsequently was).

I would make the change. If Man Utd are going to keep playing good football you will be watching every game from behind the Sofa. You still have Salah to (more than) cover Mane.

It was a mistake from the start and We should never have let Mark S talk us into it.
