Yeah plenty of options around 4.5 - 5.5; makes TAA's 8m look really steep to me when that money in midfield makes the difference between Mbeumo & Saka or Son and Salah

I feel like he’s been worth 8m but this is a season too late for it.

If their opening fixtures weren't so stinky, Awoniyi would be in my team. 100% on the watchlist

Thing is there are a couple of so called easy games in a row but the end of last season Cooper got the team saying as a unit hence Gibbs and awoniyi got their rewards so personally wouldn't be that worried about the tougher fixtures as there is a good chance they will score especially at home.

Yes - just had a poor season (by his standards) with loads of missed sitters and pens, and still outscored everyone not named Kane or Haaland.

Haaland stopped playing after City won the league.

In their first 19 games Kane had 15G1A, Haaland had 22G3A (even with playing 207 mins less, including missing a whole match).

    Misleading comparison.

Most 3-5-2s I've seen have folk like Mitoma and an unplayable £4.5m striker.

No. Even if I get swayed by Nkunku, the forward pool just looks too thin to me to make 3 up front a sustainable formation this season

      I'm currently on a 3-4-3
Wissa is 0.5 cheaper than Mbeumo and I think will score more points - that's my current logic, so currently got Haaland, Jesus and Wissa

Wise words from Tom Segal (Pricewise) in the Racing Post this week. I guess they apply equally as much to Fantasy Football.

A reminder to keep things simple...

I was watching the Scottish Open before the racing started on Saturday and golf commentator Tony Johnstone said something very interesting. He suggested that if you were to ask all the best golfers when they putted best, they would almost all say when they were kids.

The point he was making is that as soon as they got good, they all thought they had to try all the new putting techniques and started thinking too much about it.

When they were young they were fearless and free, and surely that is the state of mind all punters should really try to get into as well.

I know for a fact that the more I have to work at finding a winner the less likely I’m going to achieve that goal, especially in the big-field handicaps.

It’s possible to make a case for loads in that type of race and I’m sure the key to being successful is to trust your instincts and use the factors that have worked well for you in the past.

I’m sure these putting gurus help lots of people get the ball in the hole more often, but I reckon it’s less about changing their grip, ball alignment, or anything too technical and more about decluttering their minds and getting them to think clearly again.

      Hi Oscar,

Good advice from Tom Segal there. Many years ago Tom Segal was a tipster I thoroughly trusted. He was great at spotting good value horses and many were at big prices. The bookies recognised this and eventually made it harder to get on at the best odds. Don’t play the horses anymore but I am sure Tom Segal is still up there with the best.

      Wonder if Tom plays FPL?

Not that farfetched to think 3 of Kane, Son, Maddison, Kulusevski, Richarlison (maybe a step too far) could score a fair bit in their opening fixtures.

I would say it's quite farfetched that anyone would use 3 of 5 midfield spots on Spurs players. Kane + two of them is also quite farfetched unless Haaland gets injured.

Exactly mate and he's living off that 1 lucky season which happened ages ago before the game changed . I don't think any of them know much about football though let's be honest.. James from Planet and Walsh from FPL are the clear exceptions

Honestly the amount of content I actually consume is close to none. I have no idea who James or Walsh are sadly. I listen to Blackbox when I walk the dog as Mark is the OG. And I occasionally listen to FPL Wire, that's how I know Big Man

                        Bakar is still bakar
And the other one, forgot his name, is just still steady eddie. Tactic which worked every season a few years back but not good enough any more.

They started trying to banter more in it, but it just gave me the feeling they don't know each other at all? Which kind of made it worse for me.

                        I'll try FML.

Mbuemo as a forward was a good pick last season. Now as a mid he gets an extra point for every goal and points for clean sheets, which is significant given Brentford's solid defense.

What concerns me about MBuemo is No Toney.

It's easier when you have a striker that opposing defences have to gameplay for.

How much freedom is he going to have now teams don't have to worry about Toney until January.

Playing without Toney is a damn sight different to playing alongside him.

9 extra goal points and 12 extra clean sheet points. As a very very rough estimate.

I can't stop messing around with this rotation planning tool (http://www.fplrotationplanner.com), really leaning towards a 3 from 5 x £4.5m defender rotation system with the odd (controversial) planned transfer. This allows £69.0m budget for midfield and forwards.

GW1: Brighton, Everton, Newcastle (Brentford, Forest) = LUT, FUL, AVL
    *transfer Newcastle to Chelsea*
GW2: Brighton, Forest, Brentford (Chelsea, Everton) = wol, SHU, ful
GW3: Chelsea, Brentford, Everton (Forest, Brighton) = LUT, CRY, WOL
    *transfer Brighton to Spurs*
GW4: Chelsea, Spurs, Brentford (Everton, Forest) = NFO, bur, BOU
    *transfer Forest to Fulham*
GW5: Chelsea, Spurs, Fulham (Brentford, Everton) = bou, SHU, LUT
    *transfer Fulham to Newcastle*
GW6: Chelsea, Brentford, Newcastle (Spurs, Everton) = AVL, EVE, shu
GW7: Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton (Spurs, Brentford) = ful, BUR, LUT
GW8: Chelsea, Everton, Spurs (Newcastle, Brentford) = bur, BOU, lut
GW9: Newcastle, Spurs, Brentford (Chelsea, Everton) = CRY, FUL, BUR

So for the first quarter of the season you end up with 18 home fixtures (out of 27) against mainly bottom half teams and this only requires FOUR transfers.

    Pickford (Areola)
    Webster, Botman, Mykolenko (Hickey, Felipe)
    Son, Rashford, Saka, BrunoF, Foden
    Haaland(C), Jesus (Mubama)

Although I still have my defence set up as:
        £5.5m £5.0m £4.5m £4.5m £4.5m

4-4-2 and rotating the 3x £4.5m defenders for 2 slots.

You get an A for effort but I think it will fail spectacularly. Planning that far ahead is pointless, at least at the start.
Gabriel and Estupinan etc. are just .5 more than Felipe. So it costs the same to have Bruno over Mitoma (2m), as it does to make 4x such defensive upgrades. That does not make sense to me.

        • 7 Years

GW4 Gabriel and Estupinan play against ManUtd and away to Newcastle. My system gives home games against Forest and Bournemouth = better fixtures and £1.0m savings.

So for the first 5 gws you’re going to make 4 defensive transfers and hope nothing is wrong with the rest of your squad, otherwise you’re going to be taking hits?
I would advise against this strategy and suggest doing the opposite. Buy 3 defenders that you can set and forget for a while and use transfers for mids and fwds without taking hits.

      1. LangerznMash
        • 7 Years

Well I'm looking at my mids and attack as long term options (Son, Rashford, Saka, BrunoF, Foden, Haaland, Jesus) so I don't really desire to take any of them out. Also I will always have 1FT in the bank just in case something happens to one of them.

I've always played it the other way round (the way you suggest) so this season I'm going to try something different.

I think you could cut down on some of the transfers e.g. you only play the Forest defender once in GW2 before selling for a Fulham defender. Could just play the FUL def v BRE & save one transfer there

I was going to say exactly the same thing about the NEW defender in GW1. Not worth a transfer for a single week off a low ceiling player imo. Just start with the Chelsea and take a punt on Chelsea or Brentford first fixture. (This is providing preseason confirms the nailed 4.5 for Chelsea of course. )

Other than that, I really like the idea. I'm currently on a halfway house of Shaw+Arsenal and 3x4.5 to rotate.

Good tool. I use it too. I think 3 from 5 is asking for trouble, too many moving parts, but I do fancy the old school tactic of two defs who play every week and 1 from 3 x 4.5s for the other slot based on fixture. Saves cash and means you have at least a two man bench as well.

Langer's gone up to GW9. I can do it with only 3 transfers booked in, in those 9 GWs.
The cheap defence also enables me to get a Front 7 from the Top 3, all likely season-keepers, allowing transfers to focus on the cheap defence.

    Hi guys!
    What about this:

    Arrizabalaga - Areola
Chilwell - Gabriel - Shaw - Pedro Porro - Botman
    B.Fernandes - Maddison - Martinelli - Foden - Diogo J
    João Pedro - Håland - J.Alvarez

Some guys are not nailed every gameweek, but the ceiling of all reasonable and inside rotation easy. Last season I left too many points on the bench, could that be problem with current squad if inside week make wrong picks?

Hub off 50% off. Scout offers 30%.

    Why?

Hub gives you your money back if their Newcastle writers recommend Isak over Wilson and you ended up losing your mini league.

    Why doesn't scout?

I've been toying with something similar, no TAA or Salah makes for a very strong squad! If Onana comes in at 5m you can save another 0.5 by having him in goal and Tark over Shaw? Botman has awful fixtures, a better 4.5 will emerge for the first few game weeks.

Can’t decide what looks better between A) team with Salah, and B) team without Salah:

    A)
    Pickford,
    Botman, Estu, Gabriel
    Salah, Mbuemo, Rashford, Saka
    Haaland, Jesus, DCL

    (Areola, Bell, Beyer, 4.5)

    B)
    Pickford,

Drop TAA to a 4.5 gives you money to spare.

Mitoma's high starting ownership will likely lead to a price drop from GW4 when they have awful run of fixtures. Newcastle, ManUtd, AVL,Liverpool and ManCity.

Most importantly, such a high ceiling for those first 3. Bank the points & move on to Eze or some new bandwagon. Anyway, imo, the quality of BHA's attack is such that you don't have to just play the soft fixture runs with them; I'd be happy to start him against anyone (& did so last year)

This is of course very possible but most people plan further ahead than just 3 GWs. I'm pretty confident that by GW10 (the time I'd be looking at him due to fixture swing) he will have dropped in price. If what you say "Bank the points & move on to Eze or some new bandwagon" is a popular strategy then this supports a drop in price from this period.

Mainly saying that there's plenty of exit routes to avoid the value loss, if that is your concern. Personally I'm leaning toward a WC5 strategy where I could deadend my team in GW4 by selling him for Bowen

Brighton have Wolves and West Ham in their first 3 games - they scored 7 goals in the same fixtures last season, with Mitoma netting 1 in each. The third game is against Luton who might beat Derby’s point record.

Far more likely his price rises than drops, especially when people can afford good benches.
