  1. Eze Really?

At the end of each season I always make a list of my favorites to compare with early drafts when the dust has settled in the new one.
A also look at the player I wanted to avoid.
Munoz: Something special expected after a revitalized CPL team (IN)
    Olise: Sadly gone (OUT)
    Mateta: At the Olympics (OUT)
Eze: How will Olise affect the CPL team and himself. (IN)
Gordon, Saka, Foden, Palmer: Would always be affected by late returns, price, transfers and new managers. (ONLY GORDON)
Jota: With Gakpo a fellow countryman of slot and playing well in Euros has put me off. (OUT ATM)
Robinson: Better than many realize. (A SUB)
Nkunku: A hidden gem with great price but injury always on the back of my mind. (IN)
CHO: Better than many realize IMO. (A SUB)
Gordon, Palmer: In my squad with Palmer a wait and see with expected price rise. (ONLY GORDON)
Havertz: Will Arsenal buy a forward. As expected he is a front man but could be gold. (NOT QUITE)
Rogers: Called it right about talent but regular minutes always sitting in my head. (OUT)
Mbuemo: Superb until his injury and might even benefit with Toney going. (IN)
Gvardiol: Lucky to have the most impressive of anyone in the latter part of the season. (IN)
Muniz: Eye test tells my you can't go wrong. Then 6 mil price tag convinced me. (IN)
Cunha: Great player but Wolves fixtures put me off. (OUT)
Smith Rowe: Not for last season but always in the back of my mind if he got a move. (OUT ATM)
Isak: looked the best forward last season later on. Would be my assured choice as a forward. (IN)

The players I thought should avoid:
Salah awful latter part of the season and Saudi in the background. (OUT)
Son: Like Salah and with a wilting Spurs team. (OUT)
KDB: Age might start to show. (OUT)
TAA: Not impressed over 8 mil: 7 mil has made me rethink.(IN. AM I MAD?)
Trippier: Age and Newcastle defending made me think the end of the road.(OUT)

    In Limbo:
Arsenal defenders: Can Arsenal carry the clean sheets on? The new season has forced me to hope they can't. No room. (OUT)
Johnson: Could never understand why Moyes did not pick him much. Hoped he would get a move and he did; albeit Ipswich. (IN)
Trossard: Hoping he Morphs into a first choice at Arsenal. (OUT)
    Keepers (NO CLUE)

This season I have kept to my original thoughts and I Have 13 originals including Haaland.(IN)
The irony of it all is I have 1.5 milt ITB with 2 4.5 keepers.

Ruling out Son is madness, he got 17 goals and 10 assists last season and the change in BPS goes in his favour. Also wouldn't be so quick to rule out KdB, end of season form was 3 goals and 5 assist in 8 matches. £9.5m could be a bargain.

Not sure about madness. Son and Maddi drop in form helped Spurs slip. Intensity of Spurs and age could work against him.
As I said, the above are my thoughts and not a sure thing.

Son hauled on 8 occasions last season including AWAY matches against ManCity, Villa and Arsenal.
He is a great captain option for GW1 - especially for no-Salah teams.

Cheers Eze, very useful summary, has assisted me in formalising some consideration & doubts I was having.

On GK, same here, although currently on Pickford, just hope it's not the same start as last season...yuk

      Thanks for the efforts.

I don't fully agree with everything. Some of the outs and ins should be replaced with "?" for last minute decision making.

And I think KDB could have a comeback story if not sold. He came back from injury and therefore had a good rest which should help him to stay fit for 60+ minutes in most games.

Otherwise, I usually look at teams and what has changed. Palace looked great under Glasner but Olise and Mateta are big losses at the start. Liverpool with a new manager can go either way. Same in Brighton who might have some underrated players. But we shall soon know more at the end of the pre season.

Yeah. Maybe I should have said "at this moment in time"
My thought are the same with Palace and Pool
Writing the post, as long as it is, was swaying me midway.

Haven't moved away from this setup since the initial team with Salah.

All midfield slots and 3rd FWD are still up for grabs, only Haaland and Isak are locked assuming fit by deadline.

    4.5m 4.0m
    TAA Gvardiol Livramento 4.5m 4.0m
    Mbeumo Eze Gordon Szobo Bruno
    Haaland Isak Pedro

7 of mine above. Szobo, Jota, Gakpo all a wait and see.
Not thought about Bruno but 8.5
Pedro might have broken rib? Keep .5 ITB cover his cover IMO
Livra could be gold with Trippier possible move.

Probably find 0.5m from midfield and upgrade Pedro to Muniz.

Bruno - pens and set pieces, good for bonus

I’m currently on Gabriel which seems like a sensible pick. I’m drawn to Munoz though but I can’t really improve my team with the 1m. Let me put it in language people enjoy:

    A) Gabriel
    B) Munoz

    Thoughts on this team?

Went with cheap 4.5m defenders as not really bothered and will rotate them around with one another.

    Flekken, 4m
Livra, Davis, Myko, Robinson, Ait Nouri
    Ode, Eze, Bailey, Palmer, Mbeumo
    Haaland, Isak, Muniz

    1. LangerznMash

Your always gonna have one of Bailey/Mbeumo/Muniz sat on bench... I'd downgrade two of them to a £4.5m and a premium

I disagree here. I like the squad. Means you can roll a transfer if someone gets injured/rested.

Do think there are better 4.5 defenders though. Palace, Chelsea, Utd, maybe even Spurs.

Did Slot just let slip that Darwin is his first choice #9 and Szbo is a #10?
"I think during the season you will see us playing with a real striker but at this moment we have no-one with Darwin [Nunez] unavailable," Slot said. "We played with two number 10s and put them in the position they will play during the season. That was maybe out of necessity."

    GW1 - Salah
    GW2 - Haaland

With an easy -4pts hit to switch?

If either hauls then hit is paid off and not stuck with both premiums srinking up the rest of the squad? Also a hit into GW2 also to chase a cheap midfield bandwagon?

Yeah, a long voiciferous campaign early last season. When they ignored it a number of us stopped posting on their gambling post's page. Most notably one with Robbie Keane grinning inanely at you.

Will be interesting to see if it holds, or if we get an ‘FFS is delighted to partner with Give Us Yer Money Pty Ltd’ article just before season kicks off. Hopefully not, worshipping Mammon is beyond shameful!

Yep, possibly same here, but it must be a zero gambling profile

Think the fuss we caused was taken on board, however wouldn't be surprised if it was not proving worthwhile or even legal implications (under 18's on the site etc?)

Yeah, I agree. Just protesting on here wouldn't have been effective on its own given the ads commercial profit it generated. I was proud tho to see so many standing up against what they believed was an immoral money generator. So thanks to all that spoke up.

Lateriser may need to change his name - I agree with his point on a strong start - when the team is up and running & holding strong those 5 transfers are going to change everything - two week in & outs for prime games, mini WC’s for fixture switches. Need to start on the front foot more than ever!

How does that actually change anything though? Surely we’ve always been aiming for a good start!

Obvs, but you knew that holding the WC for a fixture change would give you massive gains. Here you act quick to price changes and form and still adapt to a fixture switch later

True although let’s wait and see. I still think an early wildcard has the potential to back me into a corner.

You could literally build a team for GW1, WC for GW2 and by GW6 do another mini WC with 5 transfers

    2. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      1 year, 7 months ago

Counterpoint would be that there's always a few surprises & emerging talents in the first few GWs. I'm usually pretty busy with early transfers & amassing 5 FTs cuts you off from all this unless you get very lucky with your initial selections

      1. Eat my goal!
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 7 Years

Well as my reply post above, you can play 1 or 2 gameweeks, really focus on those two fixtures, WC to jump on those early form bandwagons and the next 2/3 gws and then have another mini WC for gw6 when form starts to stabilise. Without having to worry about a fixture switch at say 12, or a rebuild before the Christmas period

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years
          1 year, 7 months ago

Yeah that could work. I usually WC earlyish anyway & do agree that this incentivizes that further

Here's a possible GW2 captain I've barely seen mentioned: Gvardiol

1 goal conceded and those baps vanish even with a potential assist

      1. Ze_Austin
        • 7 Years
        1 year, 7 months ago

I know. He's more likely to score than assist though

I'm just surprised that with all the hyperfocus that's being put on Man City in GW2, Gvardiol (C) or (VC) isn't getting the usual maverick suggestion here and there

I'll probably go with Salah (C) + Gvardiol (VC) that week, if Foden isn't ready

Only defender id even consider to captain would be Trent, and even then it would be a hard pass

Id captain Gvardiol and next minute Pep Roulette kicks in

    3. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

I've capped defenders plenty of times but would want to be sure that Gvardiol has the same attacking license before I do this (Pep used double inverting FBs v Celtic, for example). Also Ipswich are pretty strong on the counter (check out some of Omari Hutchinson's goals from last season) so I'm not treating them as an easy CS

The only defender I've ever considered captaining (outside of a DGW, of course) is Baines and that was only because he was on pens. I didn't even consider peak John Terry.

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years

Fair. I vaguely remember capping Trent, Cancelo and maybe Trippier at some points. Very rarely though. It has to be at the height of the defender's form in the best possible fixture/DGW, which is difficult to gauge by GW2

About the GK: looking at fixtures, the defence in front of him, and how last season panned out... I think Sa might be one of the worst keepers to start this season with. If the reasoning has to do with saves, maybe Muric instead? I'd suggest Areola + Fabianski for 8.5, as Foderingham doesn't seem to be a real threat

Odegaard vs Bruno: Havertz + Winks in a 3-4-3 + 0.5 itb, imo

The team reveals / pro pundit articles have always been members only I think. Seems like the 'value' article yesterday was free which was slightly surprising since it draws extensively from members area data...? But I have to logout to check which ones are members only so its not that easy for me to notice if there's a recent trend
