THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED BY FRIDAY’S LIVE TEAM NEWS ROUND-UP

With nine Premier League teams in midweek cup action at home or abroad, there’s lots of injury news to wade through ahead of Gameweek 6.

The pre-match press conferences on Thursday and Friday will, of course, tell us a lot more on the injury front. We’ll have article round-ups on both days and a video summary, as usual.

In the meantime, this initial rundown gives an overview of all 20 Premier League sides.

Visit our team news tab and injuries and bans page for more information as the deadline nears.

Gameweek 6 injury news

NEWCASTLE UNITED V MANCHESTER CITY

The big team news from the Manchester City camp this week concerns Rodri (knee).

A casualty of Sunday’s draw with Arsenal, the Spaniard is expected to be out for a long period of time. Media reports suggest it could be a season-ending issue, although City have yet to put a timescale on it.

“Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee.

“The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.

“The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester.

“Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis.” – Manchester City club statement on Wednesday

“Still we don’t have the definitive [answer]… will be out for a long time, a while.” – Pep Guardiola, speaking on Tuesday

Rodri joins Oscar Bobb (leg) and Nathan Ake (hamstring) on the injury list at City.

Kevin De Bruyne (thigh) isn’t expected to be out for long but Gameweek 6 may come too soon.

“I don’t know, I don’t know. Yesterday didn’t train, today I didn’t see him, so I don’t know.” – Pep Guardiola, speaking on Tuesday, on Kevin De Bruyne’s chances of featuring against Newcastle

Jamaal Lascelles (knee), Sven Botman (knee) and Lewis Miley (back) are out long term for the Magpies.

Callum Wilson (back) likely won’t be back before the October international break.

ARSENAL V LEICESTER CITY

    Diaz on Wildcard, or Watkins?

Haven't a doubt that Diaz starts the next game but beyond that, less clear. Gakpo has been playing VERY well.

To answer a comment on the last article:

ESR instead of Diaz in one draft (benched next two)

Probably Wood/DCL instead of Watkins on the other draft.

If Diaz continues at this rate he’s going to be the player of the year. I expect regression to his normal rate of returns

Savio I'm quite intrigued by. Just not sure how City set-up with Foden back and no Rodri. But he's looked quite good so far, probably should have had G+A in one half in the cup game this week.

If any stats nerds are on, I was just running some quick rankings on xGI per game in case of interest

The adjustment I made was to:
    i) multiply xG by points for a goal and xA by 3 i.e. to capture that goals are worth more than assists and players get different points based on their position
ii) do a trimmed mean i.e. from 5 gameweeks, remove the best and worst weeks and average the remaining 3 i.e. to try and adjust for one-off games like Soucek having 1.1 xG in GW1 and nothing much thereafter

This is the ranking I get:
    Haaland
    Salah
    Diaz
    Wissa
    Watkins
    KDB
    Eze
    Tavernier
    Garnacho
    Semenyo
    Barnes
    Maddison
    Jota
    Mbeumo
    Bruno Fernandes
    Jackson

Not sure there's a lot to draw (it's still early) but: Diaz really close to matching Mo, big given price gap. Wissa injury gutting. Watkins looks very promising. Eze defo unlucky. Garnacho interesting if he nails starting? Semenyo great pick (though stats being matched by Tavernier). Barnes seems under the radar? Maddison great start, one to watch (Solanke lacking data). Palmer, Saka, Son, Havertz all a little soft relative to price point.

If xg and points was more correlated it would be more interesting. Show this to Andy so he can feel better about Bruno and Nacho 😉

Only thing promising about Watkins is him promising to miss every other sitter that falls his way 😀

      Oh and defenders only:
      TAA
      Gabriel
      Porro
      de Ligt
      Tete
      Collins

TAA very good (similar level to Wood, Son, Havertz), Gabriel miles ahead of other Arsenal. de Ligt worth a look at some point? Visualised here: https://i.imgur.com/bBQy0r1.png

De ligt firmly on the radar, I noticed that high xg but haven’t seen him play much. Assume its set pieces?

        1. Ausman
          • 2 Years

I've seen him three times, and DeLigt is a killer on corners, similar to Gabriel for Arsenal. DeLigt scored 1 against Southampton and could have scored 2 against Palace if not for Henderson.
With the upcoming fixtures for ManU against teams that have issues defending corners/set pieces, De Ligt was my one transfer in this week.
Certainly hope Palace get their defence sorted before we face him again!

Me too mate if you are on this thread.

I said on Palace forum BBS that Hendon will produce a gaff and then produce a few worldies.

Dougie's signings like Sarr have been more impressive than Glasner. But Lacroix will be ok I think. Can't be easy for them to come straight into a side adjusting toa new team adjusting to he premier league, when they are adjusting to it as well

I'm really disappointed they sold Andersen. He was the glue, the leader that held the defence together and made sure they were organised. Guehi as the captain really needs to step up and get things sorted. Sometimes the best player is not always the best leader.

Am I being stupid by not hitting the wildcard yet or can a wait a Game week?

    2FT 0 itb

    Raya (Vald)
    Munoz Trent Robertson (Hall Barco)
    Eze Rogers Salah Jota ESR
    Haaland Pedro (Mateta)

Terrible fixtures next week. Haven't really looked at a WC team.

I was looking at GW12 WC, but it's looking a little tight now

But it sounds I should prepare one with potential

Are any of these two changes worth 2 FTs?

    A: Salah + 4.0 DF >> Mbeumo + Saliba ... double Arsenal DF
    B: Palmer + 4.0 DF >> Mbeumo + Saliba
C: Salah + 4.5 FW >> Mbeumo + Havertz ... This allows me to bench J Pedro (che) or ESR (nfo)
    D: Palmer + 4.0 FW >> Mbeumo + Solanke
    E: Palmer + Pedro >> Mbeumo + Havertz

That's my latest addition of the options as I just found the fund is enough to buy Solanke.

Not sure if Spurs will be able to manage European duties and keep good PL performance though.

LEI + SOU look great game for Arsenal attacks.

With Jesus is also available, I'm a bit doubt if Havertz will regularly play #9.

Jesus played 90 minutes last night though. Havertz should be prime to start at #9.

E would be my pick. Not wrapped with Solanke at the moment, want to see him string a few consistent games together.

Which WC do you prefer? - Option B leaves me with 1M ITB.

    A.

    Raya
    Gabriel / Konate / Lewis
    Saka / Diaz / Mbuemo / Semenyo
    Solanke / Haaland / Jackson

    Fab | Rogers | Milenkovic | Greaves

    B.

    Flekken (or Sels)
    Gabriel / Konate / Porro
    Saka / Diaz / Mbuemo / Semenyo
    Havertz / Haaland / Wood

    Fab | Rogers | Lewis | Greaves

    Thanks

Why is no one having a NFO defender on their WC ?

"No one"? I am - just deciding between differential Milenkovic and the more popular Aina.

It was a loaded question. I see many WC drafts & don't see NFO defs.
I'm not on a WC, but planning to get one in

On WC and so many decisions to make
    1. Diaz or Jota or both?
    2. Rogers or Semenyo or ESR
    3. Wood or DCL
    4. Solanke or Watkins

    1. Waylander
      • 9 Years
      1 year, 6 months ago

      1. Diaz
      2. Semenyo for next 2, Rogers also good and for 5.0 is amazing value, ESR about to run into 3 less favourable fixtures but still not a bad pick
      3. Both good picks, toss a coin
      4. Watkins but Solanke is substantially cheaper so it depends if you need the extra 1.5m

      Diaz
      Another good MF
Both, so you can afford another good midfielder
Neither, because the 7.5 mids are better

where does the Fab starting info comes from? On a WC so I could more easily pick Raya if I grab Fab as well and he starts this week

Savio a good pick. You just have to accept he might get the odd pep benching. Instead of Diaz? No. As well as Diaz? Yes.

Just checked the lines up and minutes played mid week. Some questions
    1. Chances of Raya playing?
    2. Rogers not in the mid week squad at all. Any reason given?
    3. What do we reading into 90 for Foden and Lewis and chances of them starting this weekend?

Is Leif Davis the best 4.5 def to own?

Since joining Ipswich Town in July 2022, Leif Davis has recorded more assists (33) than any other player across England's top four tiers.

In that time, he's also created the most chances (264) of any player across England's top four tiers.

He could be a budget TAA by the looks of it. very much in the mold of dallas, lundstrum, doughty if not with higher potential

Have him as a rotation pick. Playing him in games there is even a slight possibility of an cs. So not against Villa...
