And still the wait goes on for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) to launch, so it’s time to indulge in some more predicted prices – this time for Aston Villa.

Once again, these are contingent upon no changes to the scoring system.

ASTON VILLA – PREDICTED FPL PRICES 2025/26

OTHERS
  • Bizot 4.5
  • Digne 4.5
  • Mings 4.5
  • Garcia 4.0
  • Onana 5.0
  • Barkley 5.0
  • Malen 5.5
  • Bailey 5.5

Villa feel like a team that should have £5.0m defenders but they were mostly £4.5m in 2024/25.

So, first question: has any of the Villa defence done anything to justify a price increase? You’d have to say, unless defenders are suddenly going to be rewarded for ‘big chances created’ in 2025/26 (no defender bettered Lucas Digne for those last year), no.

Despite a late flurry of shut-outs, the Villans still didn’t hit double figures for clean sheets (nine) last season. Nine teams did better than that.

Ezri Konsa was their top goalscoring defender with a modest two. Digne led the way for assists, with a more than respectable five.

But, Konsa aside, rotation abounded. Ian Maatsen and Digne traded starts at left-back. Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings did the same at centre-half. Konsa, or loanee Axel Disasi, would occasionally start over Matty Cash at right-back. Untrustworthy picks, other than Konsa, and not offering much in the way of upside, bar perhaps the left-backs.

End result: only one of them, Konsa, getting above 100 points, and even that was only sealed in Gameweek 37.

You could argue the case for Emi Martinez being £4.5m too, of course, but he outscored the lot of them, bagging 21 save points along the way.

As for further forward, nothing much should change. That includes Ollie Watkins, who couldn’t match his 2023/24 exploits but still finished as the third-highest-scoring forward despite a lack of penalties (just one scored) and competition from Jhon Duran and Marcus Rashford.

The big riser, of course, will be Morgan Rogers. A snip at £5.0m a year ago, he’ll now climb considerably after 19 attacking returns in his breakout campaign. That was enough for him to finish as FPL’s eighth-highest-scoring midfielder.

Given that he’s nailed for starts (or has been so far), he probably warrants an extra half a million over the likes of Jacob Murphy, who now faces competition from Anthony Elanga.

I might get Rogers even with the rise

Rogers at 7 would be a bargain
