Continuing the Gameweek 26 Scout Notes is a look at notable Fantasy Premier League (FPL) events from Manchester City v Fulham.

Although not quite the 5-4 thriller from early December, a few talking points still emerged for FPL managers.

WHY DID HAALAND COME OFF?

Captained by the minority because of Arsenal’s Double Gameweek, Erling Haaland (£14.9m) followed his Anfield 11-pointer by putting Man City 3-0 up here by half-time.

However, the Norwegian didn’t emerge after the break. This made over 8.8 million owners curious: is Haaland injured, or are his minutes being managed?

Having spoken several weeks ago about him needing to rest, Pep Guardiola’s words suggest the latter.

“Niggles. Some problems, he didn’t feel comfortable, it was 3-0, of course. The reason why is too many games. Fatigue. He said ‘I don’t feel comfortable’. With 3-0 and with a lot of games and with having Omar [Marmoush], common sense.” – Pep Guardiola

A minor first-half knock reminded Pep that Haaland isn’t a machine. On came Omar Marmoush (£8.3m) and, with Gameweek 27 being ten days away, there’s a healthy gap for him to recover calmly.

SEMENYO HAUL

FPL notes: Semenyo goal, Haaland "" + BGW31

Setting up Haaland’s strike was Phil Foden (£8.2m), starting for the first time in four matches.

Since then, he’s been overtaken by Antoine Semenyo (£7.9m) as the leading Man City midfielder, and Wednesday was another rank-shredder for those who assumed the January transfer would finish him as an FPL asset, and promptly sold the probable Pep Roulette victim.

But, like Chelsea duo Cole Palmer (£10.5m) and Joao Pedro (£7.6m), the former Bournemouth attacker is punishing ‘game time logic’ and rewarding those risk-taking managers.

Semenyo has started all five league games since switching and scored three times. Here, his sole shot broke the deadlock, before assisting Nico O’Reilly (£4.9m) to double the advantage and ensure a tally of 14 points.

OUT OF POSITION O’REILLY

Speaking of this FPL defender, he’s been sold by hundreds of thousands in recent times but, for the third time in a row, started in Man City’s midfield.

The 20-year-old accumulated a match-high five shots, lofting Semenyo’s pass over Bernd Leno (£4.9m). Add that to a clean sheet and a bonus point, O’Reilly delivered 13 points to his remaining owners.

FULHAM’S SUPERIOR XG

Interestingly, even though the match never really felt competitive, particularly once the hosts reached 3-0, Fulham had more attempts (14 v 13), box shots (12 v 5) and expected goals (xG, 1.50 v 1.47).

The Cottagers almost equalised right before Man City broke upfield and bagged a second, via Harry Wilson (£6.0m).

The Welshman forced a save from Gianluigi Donnarumma (£5.6m), later setting up a big chance for ‘Goals Imminent’ entry Raul Jimenez (£6.1m). As the shot began heading wide, Emile Smith Rowe (£5.6m) almost reached the tap-in.

But, in the end, O’Reilly, Donnarumma, Marc Guehi (£5.2m) and the returning Ruben Dias (£5.5m) all secured a shutout. There’s even a chance that, upon recalculation, Guehi could grab defensive contribution (DefCon) points too.

Fulham’s Joachim Andersen (£4.6m) achieved this, but this was undone by conceding twice and picking up a yellow card.

Trying to curb my recency bias and still go Rice to Wirtz over Chalobah to VVD in GW28

Can't make either move this GW, so I hope my jerking knee will hold

I'm in a similar position with Enzo. My heart says get rid asap but my head says hold for BUR. I would stick with the Rice to Wirtz move.

Cheers, and yeah still hold for Burnley. He makes box-crashing runs, like the last goal he scored

Burnley is a gift to attackers

Keep Rice. As arsenal crumble he will be the only one getting points. Mbeumo or Rogers to wirtz?

Early thoughts on captaincy choice? I guess Palmer and Pedro owners may be sticking with their guy v BUR

    A - Thiago (BRI)
    B - Haaland (NEW)

Currently on (C)Pedro (V)Semenyo. VC is tight between Semenyo and BrunoF

(C)Palmer will need hits that don't make sense for my squad, but I think he's the best this GW

Is there any way to survive the next four GW's without Semenyo ? Makes no sense to bring him in now giovne MCI blank in gw31.

Already have five players who blank so need to use FT's on sorting out that. I'm anyway planning to wc in gw32 , so I will have Semenyo in then

          They blank in one GW

If they are the best for points before then, they'll give you a higher score by the end of the season

9 good players are enough in a BGW affecting the template

If shipping Timber, Rice and Guéhi but getting Semenyo in and benching together witrh Gabriel and Haaland, then I'll be able to field ten outfield players bar any injuries. So I think you guys got me swayed towards getting him back in.

I've seen some terrible advice on here about not getting him in because of GW31.

City are on form, he's scoring and he's massively owned.

I'm really annoyed I didn't get him for a hit this week like I'd planned.

Agreed. There's no reason why we can't transfer out other less essential assets who blank in GW31 between now and 31. For example I am planning to lose Rice, Timber and Munoz before 31. Semenyo could wait on my bench in 31

        1. Pompel

Rice and Timber on the chopping block for me as well. Not sure what to do with Guéhi

I'd hold Guehi if you can. Or downgrade him to Hill / Collins if you need a starter in 31 and the extra cash for other moves

Remove as planned. Bring in Nico O'reilly in 32. He is playing further forward so you get more goal threat plus CS if man city get one.

Assuming Haaland injury not serious, thoughts on Pickford, DCL & Cunha to Kelleher, Thiago & Semenyo for -4? Appreciate the hit isn't ideal but Semenyo is rinsing Cunha for both points and minutes and I'm at risk of falling behind further. I can then ditch Rice & Enzo in the next two GWs for two of Dango, Rayan & Wilson.

    Pickford
    Gabriel - Timber - Munoz
    BrunoF - Enzo - Cunha - KDH
    Haaland - Ekitike - DCL

    Dub - Rice - Gudmund - Andersen

      Just Semenyo and Kelleher

Thanks. Not having Thiago this week may not hurt me too much as most will captain Chelsea or City assets. Semenyo would be a good (c) pick if there are doubts around Haaland or he has his minutes managed.

Is it too risky to do:

Bruno F & Timber to Palmer & Van Dijk for -4?
I am chasing a small lead in ML.

I transferred Van Dijk out this gw for Munoz.. feel he needs to come back.

    1. Ze_Austin

I definitely wouldn't. BrunoF is a captaincy option @ Everton, and Spurs are leaky

  13. Ze_Austin

Haaland expected to be fit, then. If he isn't, I'll cancel BB and the Dubravka to Kelleher move (would be spending my only FT on that)

Otherwise, how does this BB look?

    Roefs Kelleher
    Gabriel Timber Chalobah Mukiele Hill
    Bruno Mbeumo (V)Semenyo Rogers Rice
    Haaland (C)Pedro
    .
    0 FT 1.2m ITB

GW27: Dubravka to Kelleher & BB
    GW28: Rice to Wirtz
Roll FTs (unless flags arise) until...
GW31: Timber to VVD to have XI starters

WC21 to stop the rot. TC and FH left

So you don't want to save BB for later DGW ? I think I'd get rid of Chalobah in gw28 over getting Kelleher in gw27.

I think because he's used WC in 21, he needs to BB sooner rather than later before injuries/rotation make it too difficult to manage.

I like Dub > Kelleher and BB.

Your 3rd fwd is Thiago right?

...to stop the rot. Gone from 3m to 2m OR

Keeping Chalobah on my bench for GW31, then I'll sell after. Hill's a great starter until then

I'd rather play TC on a premium attacker in the big DGW. I'll soon combine my 7th and 8th attackers into someone like Palmer or Saka. No rush there now, but easier after BB

Also, who would you bench this GW other than Dubravka?

With 3 FTs I have so many options. I'm leaning towards BB this week. Gonna be hard to find better fixtures for Darlow + Reinildo.

    Lammens Darlow
    Gabriel Timber Nunes Chalobah Reinildo
    Fernandes Mbeumo Rogers Rice Enzo
    Haaland Pedro Mane

    3FTs, 0.0m ITB

    A) Mbeumo, Rice, Mane > Semenyo, Rayan, Thiago + BB
    B) Roll FT and then look for other leverage spots with even more FTs.
    C) Rice, Mane > KDH, Thiago (save BB for GW29)

It's probably one of these 3 lines. I'm leaning A. I want Semenyo in I think and 4 weeks of Semenyo can do work as can Rayan as a differential on BB and also because he'd see play over the next few weeks. C is pretty clean as well. Saves an FT.

    Here are the BB comparisons:
27 = Darlow (avl), Reinildo (FUL), Nunes (NEW), Rayan(whu) OR KDH (MUN)
29 = Darlow (SUN), Reinildo (LEE), Chalobah (avl), Rogers (CHE)

Which BB is better? I lean 27. Would you prefer to BB Rayan (whu) or KDH (MUN)?

I like A. Rayan seems like this week's flavour and you could consider someone else, although Bournemouth fixtures look good; but anyway I wouldn't really go without Semenyo. BB I don't know. Neither are mindblowing. Save for a double?

      27 with Rayan

I'd keep BrunoF Mbeumo and Rogers here though. Rice and Enzo might need sorting in GW28 instead, but not now. I'd say B

If I do B, I could BB with Mane.

Disagree, better to keep Rice and lose Enzo. If you want Wirtz badly, lose mbuemo since you got bruno F

Who would you play this week?
    Tarkowski (MUN)
    Van Hecke (bre)
    Mané (cry)

    Rest of the team:
    Martinez
    Timber, Gabriel, Senesi
    Sarr, BFernandes, Rice, Palmer, Rogers
    Haaland

I think I'd give Mané a go, Palace seem to be falling apart.

So, I'm fine with my defenders this week, but want to make a move GW28. Got Chalobah, Gabriel, Mukiele, Senesi and Keane. Would like to move Keane on, at least. Have considered Tarkowski, but not quite sure. Hill looks nice, but don't want double Bournemouth defence. Was really considering Collins, but something's going on there. Don't fancy Arsenal double, don't fancy VVD or VDV. Any suggestions?

I'm gonna eat the humble pie. I think VvD is a good pick. It's hard to argue against him when his fixtures are easier, the xGC stats of Liverpool are up there with the best in the league and he gets DCs and has goal threat. If you have the budget, he's the one plus he has a fixture in 31.

All of that makes a lot of sense, cheers.

Ah lovely humble "legacy asset" pie.

Nothing new about Liverpool/VVD when you played WC24...

        Liverpool defence prior to GW24:
        Season: 1.15 xGC (4th)
        Last 6 GWs: 0.97 (3rd)

Ah but he has just scored so he must be a good pick now.

Liverpool had NEW and MCY as their next two fixtures.

And VvD did indeed get 4 points from those games.

Selling him was fine on WC24.

Andersen or Thiaw both good fixtures BGW31

Yeah. They're alright, I guess. Thiaw gives me the impression of having a few surprise double digit hauls up his sleeves, in the fixtures you least expect, and then a bunch of ones and twos. Andersen isn't super convincing, but a pretty safe bet. Cheers.

Thank you Marc. Good to know Haaland was just a precaution.

Guehi & Semenyo were incredible signings. City are starting to look inevitable again.

"There’s even a chance that, upon recalculation, Guehi could grab defensive contribution (DefCon) points too."
So who and when does somebody make this decision?

Opta, then applied by FPL before bonuses for the next day are confirmed

If the final bonuses/full scores of the GW have already been applied and Opta makes these updates after, FPL won't apply them
