There was another switch from Crystal Palace to Nottingham Forest this week as Daniel Munoz (£5.4m) rejoined old boss Oliver Glasner at the Tricky Trees.

A transfer fee worth up to £22 million has captured the Colombian.

So, can the 30-year-old continue – and perhaps even improve – his previous Fantasy Premier League (FPL) wing-back output? And what does it mean for the existing Forest wing-backs?

We’ll attempt to answer those questions below.

CAREER SO FAR

A late bloomer who didn’t make his professional debut until aged 20 at Aguilas Doradas, his move to Europe took another four years, when departing Atletico Nacional for Genk in 2020.

STARTS (SUB)GOALSASSISTSFPL POINTS
2025/26Crystal PalacePremier League29 (0)44136
2024/25Crystal PalacePremier League37 (0)46142
2023/24Crystal PalacePremier League16 (0)0456

2022/23GenkPro League30 (0)77–

Halfway through the 2023/24 campaign, Munoz joined Crystal Palace, going on to win two trophies (three, if the Community Shield counts).

A ‘Player of the Match’ FA Cup final performance included assisting Eberechi Eze‘s (£6.4m) glorious winner.

Munoz has 51 international caps to his name, where two of his five goals occurred at the recent World Cup.

SERIOUS ATTACKING THREAT

World Cup Fantasy: Magnificent Munoz, Diaz unlucky + Rodriguez early sub 1

Of course, FPL managers are already very aware of such attacking capabilities.

Four assists in his initial half-season were very impressive, but the subsequent two campaigns established Munoz as one of the game’s most forward-thinking defenders.

For example, he ended 2024/25 as this position’s best for expected goals (xG, 4.93) and shots on target (18, below), while also joint-fourth for chances created (46). It featured a 10-match spell of two goals, three assists, five clean sheets and 61 points.

Munoz joining Forest could have an impact on Williams 1

Munoz then had a storming start to 2025/26. By accumulating six attacking returns, seven clean sheets and a couple of 14-pointers, he was FPL’s leading defender (89 points) by the end of Gameweek 14 (below).

Munoz joining Forest could have an impact on Williams 2

A six-week knee injury halted things, but he still ended as the joint-second-best at the back for big chances created (eight) and third for expected goal involvement (xGI, 6.41).

ANY DEFCON POTENTIAL?

 1

The above image shows the top FPL full-backs/wing-backs for defensive contribution points (DefCon) in 2025/26.

Munoz was one of the leaders, and it should be noted that he nabbed those 14 DefCon points from just 29 starts. Of those run-outs, three were ended at half-time or earlier.

So, we’re effectively looking at a 26.9% success rate (seven from 26).

Not centre-half levels, but still a nice little extra on top of the goals, assists and clean sheets.

WHERE MUNOZ FITS IN AT FOREST

FPL Gameweek 26 round-up: Saturday’s goals, assists, bonus points + stats 7

A pretty straightforward one, this.

The Forest boss has stuck with pretty much the same 3-4-2-1 set-up he used in south London.

So, Munoz will be the right wing-back in Glasner’s system, carrying on their successful relationship at Palace.

WILL HE START REGULARLY?

FPL notes: Gakpo latest, Glasner on Munoz 3

If we’re going off what went on at Palace, then very likely!

Munoz was fit/not suspended for 80 Premier League matchdays under Glasner – and he started every single one of those games.

Not only did Glasner never bench him in the Premier League but Munoz also started every single FA Cup and EFL Cup tie under the Austrian! His only substitute appearance came in the UEFA Conference League, and even that was off the back of a shoulder injury.

Bear in mind that Forest have no European involvement this season, and are already out of the EFL Cup. Fatigue-led rotation, then, likely won’t be an issue – not that it was before!

WILLIAMS + AINA UNCERTAINTY

So, then, there’s now some serious uncertainty to the minutes of Neco Williams (£5.0m) and Ola Aina (£4.5m).

On the surface, Aina is now the biggest rotation risk. It is he who has been playing at right wing-back in the opening two Gameweeks, with Williams on the opposite flank.

Williams has also proven his attacking worth at wing-back.

Last season, he was the league’s number one defender for attempts (46) and shots on target (19, below), alongside being fourth for both crosses (142) and chances created (36).

Best £5.0m defenders for FPL 2026/27 1

Plus, he already has a 2026/27 assist to his name; fouled for Saturday’s penalty at Anfield.

It should be mentioned, however, that Aina has even more experience of left-back/wing-back duties than Williams, so the Nigerian could cover on both flanks.

SHOULD MUNOZ HIMSELF BE AN FPL TARGET?

It’s certainly an advantage that Munoz and Glasner know each other well.

Our free-to-use Fixture Ticker likes four of Forest’s next six matches, and the pre-season ‘jump on, jump off’ article picked out particular runs between Gameweeks 5 to 9 and then Gameweeks 13 to 16.

Munoz joining Forest could have an impact on Williams

It’s probably worth seeing how Forest set up against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the next two Gameweeks, which will give us a better indication of how Glasner plans to juggle Williams, Aina and Munoz.

Thereafter, and with Munoz potentially dropping in price again by mid-September, he’s certainly worth a consideration – especially as Forest’s major DefCon magnets at centre-half are £5.5m.

Sensible manager head says: Get Bruno and Slater on the WC this week. Play Bruno and Pedro.

Heart on sleeve manager says: Get Cherki and MGW this week and bench Pedro. Use 2FT to get Bruno and slater down the line (maybe in 4 or 5 depending on price changes).

    Which one wins?!

    2. Nomar

If you are on a WC this week just get him in. Just because it’s Arsenal he’s playing everyone assumes everyone that comes up against them will blank.

That’s not going to be the case and very good chance Chelsea score in that game.

      1. Thicksolidtight
        1 month, 16 days ago

        Not quite.

Arsenal are the best defence so it seems more sensible to say; it is more likely a player will score less points when playing against them.

Your point that not everyone will blank against Arsenal is true but misses the point OP is getting at about gw3 not being a great entry point for Palmer. Though I agree, if you're playing the wildcard now you should be setting your team up for the longer term and look beyond the next immediate

    Hows this wildcard team look?

    Verbruggen (Steele)
De Cuyper, Calafiori, Hall (Egan, Diop)
Bruno F, Palmer, Cherki, Sangare (Slater)
    Haaland, Pedro, Wissa

      some risks there

de Cuyper, cherri, wissa (once the managers striker signing pardo starts to come in). defence a bit short

      1. GoonerSteve
        1 month, 16 days ago

Agreed. I think Wissa will at worst shift to playing 10, so hopefully ok. I did consider DCL also but Wissa has great fixtures which sold it.

Cherki is definitely a minutes risk so may have to swap him for Rogers in the coming weeks. Assuming Chelsea attack continues to perform well.

De Cuyper is probably a short term pick that will become Konsa once he is up and running properly.

So I agree, but I think those risks are workable.

Please return to using UPPERCASE for HOME FIXTURES and lower case for away fixtures.
It is much more intuitive than typing all fixtures in uppercase and then marking them with a (H) for home or (A) for away.

It’s so they can post on their YouTube channel “top 20k rank!”

But in seriousness, that’s why I didn’t understand the no Haaland strategy. If you’re not starting with him because you believe there’s better value elsewhere, you have to stick to that. You can’t bail after 2 weeks

The teams that started without Haaland haven’t destroyed the ones with Haaland. A lot of them used bench boost and that’s why they’re ahead

      1. Ajax Hamsterdam

I've been puzzled by people making their teams weaker for gw1 (e.g. no Haaland) just to play an early bench boost (arguably the least valuable chip in the game) just to wildcard to get out of their bench boost 'optimised' team in gw3.

Seems like a waste of a wildcard and the unlimited pre-season transfers, just to bench boost.

2FT thinking about potential WC to neaten up but not sure if can get by just using 2FT, thinking about getting cherki in but that realistically means Mbuemo out, what would you guys suggest?

I have already sold Mbeumo for Cherki, as he has a higher upside. Plus I would consider selling Shaw for another 4.5, like Ajer or Dedic.

      I'd probably roll.

If you really want Cherki could maybe do Rodon/Williams > cheaper (now that Munoz has been signed). Then could do Wirtz > Cherki. It's a shame that Williams>4.0 doesn't give you enough for Tzolis > Cherki

Could also do the defender to allow Tzolis > Foden

But both those City moves feel very short term which is why I'd probably roll

I’m finding it increasingly hard to call the Arsenal v Chelsea game. I have double Arsenal defence + Tzolis and JP for chelsea.

With a FH I could lose Arsenal and Chelsea for a week, get Cherki and Gvardiol, Isak and Schader amongst some other punts like MGW.

If I stick with my team I’d likely TC Haaland.

What boat are you in and what would you do in the above situation?

    1. DeSelby
      1 month, 16 days ago

I also have double Arsenal defence, Tzolis, and JP. I'm also thinking of FH but the big difference is that I don't own Haaland so if I want to get him and TC I need to sell Bruno & Isak.

I don't know your whole team but I'd be inclined to stick and TC Haaland.

2 FT, would you look to move on Mbeumo and Mosquera for any of the below, or wait another week and mini WC with 3 FT?

    Cherki
Barcola (think he’s going to be a points machine in time!)
    Konsa
    Rogers

    1. H Dog
      1 month, 16 days ago

Roll FT - Rogers in if no JP or Palmer

Unless it comes out Mosquera out long term then Konsa

    2. Azool
      1 month, 16 days ago

Rogers is playing Arsenal so no to that one. Konsa is still risky unless there’s an update. I’d wait and see on Barcola. Cherki could be great next week, after that who knows.

Maresca’s ‘Pillar’ talk makes me think medium term he’s good for starts, but enzo and Ndiaye to cut down 90 mins

Still think even in mins he has he’ll do well, certainly worth the risk over Elanga etc (although if really concerned go Sangare and forget)

Thanks, those comments did make him sound in favour and his underlying numbers are good. I would like more City cover for Cov so I might be tempted by B

No need to WC and shouldn’t need to take a points hit

    How about this anomaly ....?
I had 2 Man City this morning and also Ndiaye. Then I noticed Ndiaye still had an Everton shirt, so I was able to successfully transfer in Foden today!! It will probably backfire (Ndiaye on bench) but I thought that it was interesting.
