We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ for Gameweek 5 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

The upcoming Scout Squad nominations, as well as the pre-match press conferences, will help shape our finalised picks.

However, this early draft, at the very least, offers an insight into the players and teams who are under consideration.

There are, as ever, certain restrictions for our squad:

  • An £83.0m overall budget for our starting XI
  • An overall squad limit of £100.0m
  • No more than three players per team

A reminder, too, that the Scout Picks are for the upcoming Gameweek in isolation.

GAMEWEEK 5 FIXTURES

Using our free-to-all ticker, here is the Gameweek 5 difficulty ranking:

FPL Gameweek 5 early Scout Picks: 1

THE LIKELY LADS

£5.5m forward Delap one to watch after Forest move 3

Recognising Hull City’s stunning results and the seven goals of a decent-looking Ipswich Town, Gameweek 4’s fixture to target is Nottingham Forest at home to Coventry City.

Talisman Morgan Gibbs-White (£7.9m) is starting this season just as strongly as he ended 2025/26. On penalties, he’s also the league’s number one for big chance creation (four), setting up seven attempts on Saturday – including Igor Jesus‘ (£5.8m) winner. The opener was scored by Liam Delap (£5.5m), who fired out six efforts at Villa Park.

The Sky Blues remain pointless and goalless, so an attack-minded wing-back like Neco Williams (£5.0m) or Daniel Munoz (£5.4m) could feast. They are part of a backline that’s conceded merely five big chances this term.

At the Hill Dickinson Stadium, it isn’t essential to own an Everton defender, considering such Ipswich goals. But James Tarkowski (£6.1m) has delivered a goal, a clean sheet and/or defensive contribution (DefCon) points in all four Gameweeks. If our Scout Picks team needs more money, centre-back partner Jarrad Branthwaite (£5.5m) and full-back Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.5m) are cheaper.

At least one of the Toffees’ attackers should make the XI, whether it be Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£6.5m) or Thierno Barry (£5.6m). Neither has produced since scoring on the opening day, but the former ranks third for successful passes into the penalty area (17), while the striker is massively underachieving (-1.98) in comparison to expected goals (xG, below).

FPL Gameweek 5 early Scout Picks: 2

In fact, the only player to have more xG, box shots (13), and big chances (five) is Erling Haaland (£15.5m). The machine malfunctioned on opening weekend but, since the Gameweek 2 software patch, he’s scored four times, always bringing in nine or more points.

Hosting Sunderland might not be worth a triple-up, but Manchester City are seeking a third consecutive clean sheet, so defensive coverage is likely.

Josko Gvardiol (£5.7m) boasts at least one return from all four Gameweeks, adding an assist to Sunday’s Manchester derby shutout. Due to the other appealing defenders, we may pick goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma (£5.5m) instead.

We’ll also surely be considering Leeds United assets at home to Crystal Palace. The Eagles’ latest few matches have all featured exactly five goals, a leakiness that Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.0m) and Anton Stach (£6.0m) can benefit from.

IN CONTENTION

FPL notes: Iraola on Szoboszlai pen + Wissa back to his best 1

Those who bought Rayan Cherki (£7.8m) ahead of Gameweek 3 have been massively let down so far. Nothing versus Coventry, then removed at half-time for the impactful Iliman Ndiaye (£5.9m). Still, Phil Foden’s (£7.0m) red card should mean a start for the Frenchman, who leads the way for expected assists (xA, 1.41).

Before the weekend, having a Manchester United attacker against Fulham seemed straightforward. But the Cottagers surprisingly drew 0-0 at Liverpool, and Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) is suddenly on three blanks from four.

Maybe the much cheaper Bryan Mbeumo (£7.9m) will make our XI, knowing he outdoes Fernandes for big chances (5 v 3) and xG (2.79 v 2.29).

Meanwhile, the fixture ticker places Newcastle United on top. But, against all odds, Hull are experiencing a brilliant start: unbeaten, alongside three clean sheets. The Magpies, meanwhile, have just been thumped at Leeds.

FPL managers bought Lewis Hall (£5.2m) and Yoane Wissa (£6.2m) with this match in mind. Harvey Barnes (£6.0m) is also worth a mention, though the Magpies’ attack is low on attempts, netting an unsustainably high rate of shots on target (six from eight). When millions piled in on Chelsea assets at home to Hull, at least the data justified this.

Speaking of the Blues, a Friday night trip to Brentford isn’t easy. Of course, it’s hard to back against Joao Pedro (£7.8m) right now, after seeing him both score and assist in three of the four outings. Teammate Morgan Rogers (£7.7m) hasn’t hauled, but is yet to blank.

Elsewhere, the supreme Arsenal defence squeezed out a clean sheet at Sunderland, their third. The likes of Ezri Konsa (£4.5m) and Riccardo Calafiori (£5.8m) feel fixture-proof, but bear in mind that opponents Brighton and Hove Albion are the league’s highest scorers, on 13 goals.

Bukayo Saka‘s (£9.5m) stoppage-time penalty secured the win on Wearside and, although the 25-year-old’s 2025/26 minutes were carefully managed, he has started all four this time, netting on three occasions.

THE LONGER SHOTS

5 players who should bounce back in FPL Gameweek 2 2

After a deflatingly poor performance at home to a supposedly leaky Fulham, are Liverpool assets really going to get a look-in this week? Opponents Bournemouth, have, it should be said, yet to keep a clean sheet, but there are surely more appealing fixtures elsewhere this week.

Speaking of sides without a shut-out to their name, here’s Chelsea. Could the in-form Kevin Schade (£6.0m) make a late dash for Scout Picks inclusion?

North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are on successive shutouts. They’ll host an Aston Villa side on one goal, plus a league-low 33 attempts, six shots on target and four big chances. Antonin Kinsky (£4.5m) might come into the goalkeeping conversation, at a push.

Despite the general flatness of Liverpool I think I might keep Szobo

    OK WC draft...

    Raya (Dubravka)
Calafiori Gvardiol Konsa (De Cuyper, Davis)
    Szobo MGW Mbeumo Rogers (Groß)
    JP DCL Haaland

    Likey or no?

It's good - I feel like De Cuyper could be someone else funds permitting but otherwise he's also fine to keep.

Thanks, yes, it does feel a bit like a signing for the sake of it.

I wonder if I'm going to keep a Liverpool midfielder maybe it's worth a gamble on Gakpo

Or just abandon Liverpool altogether 🙂

Either way I think I'm totally set apart from those two (De Cuyper / Szobo)

      Looks good.

      This is mine:

      Leno
      Calafiori - Gvardiol - Hall
      Palmer - Saka - MGW - Ødegaard
      Haaland (C) - Pedro - DCL

      (Lecomte, Davis, Giles, Slater)

What a great start for me another 88 points and up to 120k. Even got away with 3 trades last Sunday night to catch the price changes and had no injuries and 0.5 value swing. Something I'd never normally do. Kerkez & Dorgu out for Konsa & Rogers 9 points up.

same did a rare minus 4 for dedic and cherki out for palmer and konsa so ended up working well for 5 point gain excluding the minus 4

Going to wildcard GW6. Mbeumo to MGW this week with my 1FT? Or Verburggen to Kinsky? Or roll the transfer?

    Kinsky
    Gvardiol Calafiori Neco Williams
    Odegaard Szoboszlai Cherki MGW
    DCL Pedro Haaland
    Verbruggen Mbeumo Konsa Thomas
    1 FT

Q1: Is the bench correct? Feels like another mistake leaving Mbeumo on the bench but who for? (I benched DCL and Gvardiol in GW4... so please wake me up if there's something I missed)
Q2: Any transfer you'd make? Also have WC that I would consider using during the IB.

I would personally play Mbeumo over Cherki. You already have good City coverage with Gvardiol and Haaland.

Thanks, my thinking was Foden is banned for 3 matches so surely it's a prime time to play Cherki with much less rotating risk.

I think leaving Mbuemo on the bench is potentially a mistake. Fulham have to play at home and won't just sit in against utd. I would play him over Szbosz i think.

1FT and 0.0 ITB. Own all three of Palmer, Rogers and João Pedro.

    1) Palmer > MGW
    2) Save FT
    3) FH5

I'm very undecided on this so your thoughts would be really helpful. Cheers guys.

Think i made a mistake going bruno over haaland on wildcard. I have 2 free transfers and can correct the decison this week. It would mean losing Isak and Bruno - Haaland and KDH for free? Plan was to make the switch in 7 against ipswich but bruno and utd just look poor compared to city. Team would look like this:

    Raya
    Konsa Callafiori Hall
    Palmer Gibbs-white Rogers KDH Szboszlai
    Haaland Joao Pedro

    De Cuyper Mendy Fodder Fodder

Is it worth the 2 transfers now and bring the move forward from 7 to 5?

    Thank you

In isolation yes, but don't be surprised if Isak and Bruno haul this week either. I might be tempted to wait.

I nearly did it last night but have the same nagging doubt about it. could just do szbosz to KDH and shift off double liverpool attack potentially

I feel like both those games could be high scoring. Fulham are quite open at the back and Bournemouth games have had plenty end to end action so far which would suit Szobo's more chaotic style.

          1. Subzero (-4)
            • 12 Years

Thats what i feel as well. Bournmouth don't defend deep at home and Isak will likely get some chances. I just don't know who to captain this week if Haaland isnt an option.

I don't know how i feel about Bruno? You reckcon Haaland does well against Sunderland?

Haaland could do well in any game but my point is you are in danger of swapping out two players who could do well this weekend regardless.

Think I need to stick to the plan. I always intended to make the switch in 7 as Utd start a tougher run and city have a much better spell at that point. Who you captaining then?

Bruno keep or sell, would that 12M be better spent elsewhere?

I get the 23 pointer but also 3 games all 2 points.

For me its Bruno and lets say Sangaré for £18M to spend on 2 other midfielders

    Whats other Bruno owners doing?

Holding for another week here. He is the type of player that can haul at anytime, having said that, he needs to be more consistent for returns at 12m.

    3. Subzero (-4)
      • 12 Years

Having the exact same dilema. I don't have Haaland though so for me its Isak and Bruno - Haaland and KDH/Barnes/Tavernier for example.

I don't know if ipswich game is just skewing peoples perception of him. He rarely hauls but is normally super consistent. I just can't tell if the Fulha, game suits him or not.

      1. Zizou
        • 16 Years
        7 days, 3 hours ago

yeah like for me yes he could haul Vs ipswich, but then again so could MGW. And i'd have him in for his nice run of fixtures and beat any potential price rises

its a head scratcher. If i do sell, everyone else keep as he's bound to haul

      2. Zizou

Yeah like Fulham just held Liverpool to 0-0 away so i'm not sure, MGW home to coventry sure is tempting

I asked this earlier I was expecting it to have updated by 9am. Apparently it can take a few hours. Never known it to be this slow though

    A) De Cuyper + Saka
    B) Gross + Mbuemo (Still have De Cuyper but he will be first on the bench)

    Play Hall, Sangare or Gross?

I could also make 2FT to get in Hall to Dedic and Barnes to MGW or Mbuemo but unsure if worth it. (Muharemovic is my 3rd def atm with triple arsenal)

I’m on Sangare atm for a basic 4 pointer and Chelsea’s def. Hall feels like a higher ceiling but Hull keep fighting against everyone

Interesting stat atm watching FPL Raptor. Thomas 4.0 defender has most HC in league and defender with most shots. It’s a small sample size, but pretty interesting.

point 3 "In 2026/27, this will happen at 9am (UK time) on the day after the final match of the Gameweek. So, for example, that’ll be Tuesday morning if there is a Monday night finale."
Still incorrect though... at 9 is not the same as sometime after 9 ... who knows...
i guess my point is... dont say at 9 if you know its not going to be at 9

      79pts
Red arrow - dropped from 9k to 62.5k overall
Happy the hit on Foden + White > Rogers + Konsa worked out though, could've been worse!

Rough: Triple Captain Palmer didn’t go to plan. At least he didn’t blank. Felt like a waste of TC given I brought him in especially for it and my other moves would have only had me 2 points worse off! Think I did FH3, TC4 the wrong way round in hindsight… I always get too spooked by price changes. A red arrow this week with lots of players I don’t own (Haaland, Groß, Gvardiol, De Cuyper, etc) scoring very well

Smooth: 81 points all out is a decent score in isolation. Playing Yalcouye ahead of Mbeumo was one of those wonderful FPL moments where your punt actually pays off. Still around 150-160k rank which is good for this stage of the season. DCL and Muharemovic bumped me up a bit last night

Smooth: The missus is a Leeds fans so i didn’t get a hard time on Monday night.

      Smooth

103 points thanks to triple ARS D and double BRI. The best thing was going MGW over Szob on WC3 which has saved me a transfer and gained more points overall

      Rough. Mostly.

Smooth, Joško Gvardiol and João Pedro points.

      Didn't waste TC.

Other than that, a team with 6 blankers.

Also, took a hit to get Palmer and the captain was on Pedro until then.

      DCL giving me a red

Rough: Sold Saka for Odegaard in GW4. Sold Raya on wildcard in GW3. White injured.
Smooth: Captain Haaland, Joao Pedro, De Cuyper, Rogers, Verbruggen; only a small red.
Jammy: Incompetent VAR failed to disallow Haaland's goal.
