The transfer of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal this week has many a Fantasy manager eyeing up the new Gunners midfielder. Priced at just 8.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Arteta looks, potentially, a real value for money option this season, bringing a much-needed maturity to the Arsenal playmaker role in light of Cesc Fabregas’ departure to Barcelona.

In today’s Members Article, we delve into the statistics from last season, looking at a variety of factors to ascertain whether they offer a hint at just what Arteta could offer Arsenal –and, of course, Fantasy managers- in the campaign ahead:

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyone trying to shoe-horn in one player from last season's top 6? And if so, who do they think are the best value-for-money players from each club?

    I'll start with...

Man Utd - Young (set pieces, cheaper than Rooney)
    Chelsea - Mata (or Meireles?)
Man City - Dzeko (cheap if he plays)
Arsenal - Arteta (set pieces, 4m cheaper than RVP)
Tottenham - Adebayor (could be the focal point of their attack)
Liverpool - Suarez (still on free kicks?)

if vdv is injured i think bale and adebayor are good value too

VDV went to Dick Van Toorn (the guy that helped Robben before the WC) and he thinks he can be back playing in 1 or 2 weeks. He's done that before though and Spurs kept him sidelined for a bit longer.

6 weeks does seem a bit extreme. the way it happened and he walked off suggests it wasn't a bad tear, the kind that would keep you out for 6-8 weeks

          Mata--------Malouda

    Evening gents,

Im determined to get RVP and Rooney in my WC team.
Its alot of juggling but would really appreciate which 2 players to choose.

    A. Kompany and Arteta/Walcott
    or
    B. A Young and 5.0 defender (possibly villa, fulham or stoke)

A means 2 Arsenal attackers and just Rooney for United but the strength of Kompany at the back.

B means ive got a super hot form player, playing for a team bang in form but my defence loses the city influence.

    Help much appreciated

I can't afford Simpson and Brown. Brown costs 4.5, De Laet and Taylor are both 4.0. Also, i think Santon's arrival will probably displace Simpson, given RTaylor's current form, and Santon's ability to play on either flank.

I really would like to have baines in there, but he has too much of an effect on other parts of my team really.

i know its boring to bring it up and i aint namesdropping about it green (u know already) but my papas team of 67 was when we were at our peak. there just aint the drive anymore. scots dudes dont care about playing for their country now. they'd rather play for some 2 bit championship side for easy money. easier money than theyd get in scotland's sad excuse for a premiership

Messing around on my wildcard, and seen that I could fill my midfield and attack with a decent player from each of last season's top 8.

    Young, Arteta, Mata, Duff, Drenthe

    Dzeko, Suarez, Adebayor

and still have a defence of Bosingwa, Kompany, Enrique, Brown, Simpson

Anyone think this sort of tactic could pay off?

regardless of the tactic it looks a good team. only potential issue is it's usually easier to captain a 12mil player like rooney, rvp and lampard then it is to captain any of those front 8

Really struggling to not knee jerk and get Arteta in. Do people think he'll be on penalties?

I'd be doing Downing to Arteta, I already have Suarez. This would free up 0.5 to spend on my defence which at the moment I think is a bit weak.

Brown, Woodgate, Simpson, Enrique and De Laet

Possibly Brown/Woodgate to a 5 defender, any ideas?

    Evening all.

I've become very jealous of those on this site playing wild cards, so will be playing mine after GW 7, so I can see which teams and players have and haven't settled.

In the meantime do we think this is worth an 8 point hit? I'm now just playing the fixtures for the next 4 weeks:

    Walcott and Tchoyi in
    Downing and Moses out

    Thanks in advance

Arteta....... as Downing has played well but not shown the form he had at Astonvilla yet. Liverpool have too many variables in midfield at the moment and although Downing will always play, its hard to read KK favorite formation.
Arteta will be used hopefully just behind the forwards - exploiting his creative flair. He will link with ramsey/wilshire/ walcott and van man, so I can see him getting lots of assists and some set piece plays.

What I'm really hoping is that Wenger starts thinking out of the box and plays Walcott in the striker role as he did with Henry.

Newcastle fan here. Alan Pardew has said that he hopes Ryan Taylor won't play left back again, plus the NUFC website calls Santon a left back and an Enrique replacement. However, not everyone is convinced by Simpson, as he does tend to back off from his opponent too much, almost to the byline. It could be that Ryan replaces Simpson.

Definitely. I'd go for RVP over rooney right now. Rooney plays deeper (too reliant on dead ball situations for goals), and when hernandez is back, this becomes even worse. Throw in the fixture list, and it's an easy decision. I still think rooney is a fantastic player, but purely fantasy wise, when fit, it's got to be RVP.

And this from a Man Utd fan.

Mad logic, by the same token RVP has looked stranded recently - too much responsibility to drop deep and influence play instead of hanging around as an out and out scorer.

Then compare their form - United are banging in goals for fun, Arsenal are struggling to score. New team could take a while to gel whereas united look like they've been playing together for years.

Arsenal made a few signings, can;t see that being all the difference immediately. Walcott is sufficient cover imo

And this is from someone who can't stand United and loves Arsenal.

Honestly, I'd have both (and will have both).

Both are the type of striker to go on a ridiculous scoring run - Rooney is on one at the moment, while van Persie is showing signs. RvP hasn't been playing well recently, but has still scored, which is normally how his mad runs start.

Last season his first goal was a deflected free-kick at Birmingham, and he had a terrible game, squandering numerous chances. He then nicked one against Leeds in the cup, and soon after he couldn't stop scoring.

United have Bolton, Stoke & Liverpool away & Chelsea ManCity & Norwich at home in the next 6 games.

Arsenal have Swansea, Bolton & Stoke, Sunderland at home & Tottenham & Blackburn away.

I see Van Persie outscoring Roonster over these games. I know United have looked tasty at home in the last 2 but people are overlooking the fact that Arsenal had a very weak side at O.T. 3-0 at home to Spurs looked a really good result but then City went to White Hart Lane and scored 5 against them. Just some food for thought. Arsenal should be back to full strength soon and with the new additions should be a totally different team.

that is the tough part in owning one of the man city forwards - all worth the money but..... It's Man C's first Cl game so you'd figure Mancini would really want to field his best CL side. To me, that would include Tevez and Dzeco seems to provide better balance up front

I need Anderson, Fletcher and RTaylor all to rise again before next friday to be able to get Taarabt instead of Anderson.

How do you fancy my chances?

Would give me a team of

    Given Vorm
Baines Enrique Bosingwa De Laet 4m def (Simpson or Orr maybe?)
    Walcott Nasri Taarabt Moses Dyer
    Rooney Suarez Dzeko

Pretty happy with that tbh. Would probably ship Nasri for Mata when the time looks right, right now Chelsea are playing worse and have worse fixtures though.

Do you know why he's on the bench?

With Bendtner and Gyan upfront for Sunderland now, does that mean Sess might show his predicted potential?

Gyan was stretchered off yesterday, I expect Sessegnon to go on a mad scoring spree now 8)

Ah, was he? He went mad against Brighton, but didn't score, including in ET. I'm thinking he might link up well with Bendtner after his rant about himself not returning to Arsenal.

Always best to go with your Instinct. Shawcross will, Barkey probably, Simpson maybe, Dzeko maybe (Champs Lge you see)
Meireles simply don't know, AVB had him at Porto I heard.
Also Ferdinand won't simply walk back into the Squad, I think Vidic will, but Jones (I think) has one foot on that CB spot on the pitch.
