634x258 Scout Picks

This season, we’re rolling out a Scout Picks squad in the middle of each week in order to give you a heads-up over our thinking for the Gameweek ahead. This list of players also includes some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation as the days progress.

For Gameweek 3, here’s our current thinking…

Goalkeepers

Having served his one-match suspension, Thibaut Courtois (5.4) comes back onto our radar as Chelsea look to bounce back against a West Brom side that’s yet to net this term. With David de Gea sidelined amid speculation on his future, Sergio Romero (5.1) targets a third consecutive clean sheet when Newcastle United pay visit. In the budget bracket, Palace’s Alex McCarthy (4.0) is pitted against an Aston Villa outfit that’s racked up the second-least attempts inside the box (seven).

Defenders

Manchester United’s back-to-back clean sheets encourage us to invest in their steady rearguard. Matteo Darmian (5.6) presents the strongest cast for inclusion, having notched two bonus points in both matches.

Joel Ward (4.5) bagged his second ever Premier League goal in the Eagles’ 2-1 defeat to Arsenal. Among the league’s full roster of defenders, the Palace centre-back ranks fourth for penalty box touches (six) and second for goal attempts (three) this term, underlining his enhanced goal threat.

Notwithstanding the threat of rotation now Gael Clichy’s returned to the bench, Aleksandar Kolarov’s (5.5) marauding wing play could well harvest attacking returns when the Sky Blues visit Goodison Park. Aside from boasting a share of set-piece duty, the Serbian full-back has executed four more key passes (seven) than any defender this campaign.

Swansea’s attacking contingent are understandably garnering the bulk of the plaudits for their fast start, yet Ashley Williams’ (5.0) contribution shouldn’t be ignored. The imposing Welshman scooped all three bonus points last time out and will fancy his chances of rebuffing Sunderland’s lacklustre forward line.

Aaron Creswell (5.5) retains a spot in our Scout Picks by virtue of West Ham’s favourable home tie against Bournemouth. The Cherries failed to net in the opening two Gameweeks, increasing our faith in the Hammers’ back line.

Midfielders

Alexis Sanchez looked in ominous form against Palace – tallying more attempts inside the box (six) than any midfielder in Gameweek 2 – which bodes well for the Gunners’ home clash against Liverpool. Elsewhere in London, Yohan Cabaye (6.6) reiterated his Fantasy potential with a 10-point haul in Gameweek 1 and will be looking to pull the strings when the Villains come to town, while Dimitri Payet (7.6) should find pockets of space between Bournemouth’s banks of four.

David Silva (10.0) is more than justifying his top-tier price tag in these early stages, having bagged three assists in two starts. Everton will certainly do well to stymie the twinkle-toed Spaniard’s captivating start to the campaign. Conversely, Sadio Mane (8.0) has yet to set alight but should cause all sorts of problems for Watford’s new-look defence.

With three goals to his name already this season, Riyad Mahrez (5.7) could enjoy further success against Tottenahm’s mistake-laden rearguard. Meanwhile, Andre Ayew (7.1)  seeks a third strike in as many starts as the Swans roll up to the Stadium of Light.

Juan Mata (8.5) has piqued our interested as a mid-priced differential, given that the Spain international recorded nine points against Villa and could be the chief architect of the Magpies’ downfall. Nathan Redmond (5.5) clearly has his shooting boots on in the wake of back-to-back goals on the Canaries’ return to the Premier League.

Forwards

Sergio Aguero (13.1) tested the nerve of all non-owners on his return to the starting line-up last Gameweek. Aside from gracing the scoresheet, last season’s Golden Boot victor fashioned a wealth of shooting opportunities (seven) against Chelsea’s typically resilient back four, auguring another strong display against everton.

A home fixture against Newcastle United presents Wayne Rooney (10.5) with the perfect platform to kick-start his season. On a similar note, Diafro Sakho (6.5) possesses the pace and movement to trouble Bournemouth’s defence.

Troy Deeney (5.5) looks the pick of the promoted forwards this Gameweek, as Watford welcome Southampton to Vicarage Road. The Saints shipped five goals in their opening two clashes, with the Hornets lone frontman primed to capitalise on their defensive vulnerabilities.

Bafetimbi Gomis (7.1) looks to have filled the void left upon Wilfried Bony’s departure; the in-form marksman will doubtless be licking his lips as he prepares to face off against a Black Cats defence that’s been breached seven times already.

Community Champion

For the second week in a row the Community Champion beat the Scout Picks. Gameweek 2 Champion Daniel Levy – Not the Spurs Chairman racked up an impressive tally of 52 thanks to Liverpool’s Christian Benteke. The Scouts’ faith in Wayne Rooney proved their undoing, with their Gameweek 2 picks mustering just 44 points.

The community member who beats the Scout Picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season. Gameweek 1 Champion Fuzzy Warble beat us by a 12-point margin and remains the champion to beat.

Patch has been named Gameweek 3 Community Champion following this week’s lottery.

To WC or not to WC this team

    Schmeichel Hennesey

    Koscielny Clyne Ward Francis Alderweireld

    Walcott Hazard Fabregas Mahrez Kouyate

    Kane Rooney Wilson

2FTs and thinking of doing this for - 8

    Hazard > Silva
    Walcott > Redmond/Shelvey
    Kane > Aguero
    Hennessey > Butland

    Any ideas would be welcomed

Unless Chelsea get back on track right away that midfield is looking rough. I'd wildcard.

if you do decide to wild card, just do regular transfers during the week and activate the wild card on Saturday AM ( to ensure your transfers count towards price movement so you can enjoy the price rises if any do come through)... Wild card activated transfers do not seem to count towards price rises

as to wild carding with that team it would be good as Walcott, Haz, Fab, Kan, Rooney are all in line for price drops and losing that much value may make it difficult to get Aguero/ Sanchez/Silva/Toure who are going to probably at least once more by the end of the week

I'd keep Kane instead of Rooney and I think the Butland transfer is unnecessary for a hit. Get Aguero in and get shot of Walcott, maybe even Cesc/Haz if you wanna take a hit.

I've looked at plenty of options for wildcard that don't include Sanchez, and instead have someone like Ozil due to me not really likely to captain Sanchez but I never know where to spend the extra cash.

Mahrez seems like too good value, I quite like Aguero-Gomis-Diouf. I suppose I could get someone like Giroud instead of Diouf but willing to give Diouf a try first.

I suppose I could just bank the money....

    How's this WC looking:

    Myhill - McCarthy

    Darmian - Williams - Muniesa - Richards - Francis

    Sanchez - Silva - Payet - Mane - Mahrez

    Aguero - Gomis - Deeney

I just need Mane and Francis both to drop for this to happen.

Looks good.. are you going to play Myhill every week? ( McCarthy will lose out to Speroni soon).. Guzan has good rotation with Myhill..

also maybe consider a plan to bring in Chelsea/ Spurs players as their fixtures get good over next 8 games.. and Chelsea form will def pick up

I plan on bringing in Butland for Myhill in GW7.

And I will probably go Sanchez back to Hazard GW8.

I'm having a hard time figuring out Spurs. Getting Kane in will be challenging, so it might be Mane to Eriksen when Southampton's fixtures toughen up.

Short term maybe A, dependent on Diouf's fixtures. Because Benteke doesn't have the best fixtures coming up. Overall i may lean towards B. But you would have to keep watching the City games and make sure Yaya continues to get forward as much as he has been in first 2 games..

    Hi,

I know you guys see 100's of these per day but I genuinely need some assistance / a sense check. Having had a previous history of success this season has been a car crash... Mainly due to needing to get in Sanchez and Aguero I have released the WC this week. What do you guys think of this?

    Ruddy (Rudd)

    Kompany / Gomez / Richards (Huth) (S.Taylor)

Mahrez / Silva / Ayew / Sanchez (Drinkwater)

    Aguero / Lukaku / Benteke

I know there be a mindset of 'point chasing' to some of you but I genuinely feel that the bandwagons I am on are long term quality not flash in the pan. I think this is a good setup for the next 4/6 weeks with tweaks as I go along up to Christmas. What is your feedback any obvious red flag or improvements you can offer. Thoughts are really appreciated as I am feeling the Fantasy fog this season so far...

    Thanks,

    SK

Looks like Newcastle are signing a new winger:

BREAKING: Florian Thauvin has touched down in Newcastle to finalise his £13m move from Marseille. Expect him to have his medical tomorrow.

Nice, but not a fan of lukaku/benteke. I think Gomis/Pelle are better options especially with their fixtures.

Anyone thinking of bringing in Ritchie or Wilson on their wildcards ? Cut price now and great fixtures, Bournemouth looked dangerous last night they look like they have goals in them

I would like to bring in Ritchie at 5.8, but I just don't know who I'd drop out of Mahrez and Ayew. One to monitor for me

If I use my wc. I sell Ritchie 5.9m. Perhaps take back him lower price 5.8m. Same what I plan do Francis.

Guys, really having a hard time deciding on this:

      Current team is

      Butland/ Schmicael

      Azpi - Mert - Cedric - Francis - Coates

      Haz - Silva - Albrighton - Mane - Ritchie

      Aguerro - Sakho - Wilson

A few days ago nearly pulled the trigger on my wildcard but ultimately felt my team looks too strong going into the next few fixtures; and I am more bullish on Chelsea than others.

My question is, with Francis, Coates, Mane and potentially others due to fall, do I need to Wildcard?

Is it horrendous if I keep them all and wipe 0.5 from my team even though I fancy my squad still and can sort out the defence over the coming weeks?

Really would appreciate some feedback as I AM LOST haha

Another thing to mention is since I was going to wildcard Mahrez and Payet have risen so it would be highly annoying to have to bring them in now.

Do not wildcard. That is a solid team.

Aguero is the king of fantasy.
        Sakho great fixtures.
        Wilson great fixtures.
Ritchie great fixtures and very high up on shots/chances created for any midfielders
Hazard and Silva self explanatory..great players
Albrighton in form, not quite Mahrez, but still not bad
Mane just monitor for a game or two more, he surely will come good soon, if not, maybe swap for a Mata/Ozil for 0.5 extra.
Defense and keeper all solid enough, and start.

DO NOT WILDCARD. You will regret it.
        Hope this helps 🙂

Feels good to hear soneone Echo my thoughts. I feel my squad is pretty solid right now but sat rock bottom of all my mini leagues nearly forced me into the wildcard.

Having said this, if I take the drops my squad value will edge down to around 99.5 whereas others who have wildcarded will have gone the other way and moved upto around 101.

Really concerned about not being proactive and hitting the button. Another part of me feels it will be a waste of all the planning I did pre season to get a solid squad for the first 6 weeks

stay strong that is a very good side which includes aguero and silva and hazard.. my advice would be to take a hit maybe a -4 or -8 to rid urself of 2 or 3 u dont want going forward and u will be fine

Anyone out there who thinks I Should be wildcarding?

The need to increase team value a necessity this year?

I understand your concern about team value, but the ability to build a monster squad for a double gameweek at some stage (and possibly even then use this team with bench boost, or triple captain, or just in general) and then to be able to change it back to something good and more normal with a WC shouldn't be overlooked. I wildcarded around GW6 maybe if i recall last year, and regretted it when the final gameweeks came around. Your team is great for the next few GWs and if your players don't do well that's just unlucky. Don't change for the sake of changing imo. Who knows when you will have one of those weeks when you have 3 players with no fixture and 4 injured lol...always good to have the WC as a contingency. Good luck man

Thanks a lot for the replies guys seriously appreciate it.

Forza, I know exactly what you're saying and of course in the event of injury its a great weapon. However, rules are different this year and 1st Wildcard has to be used before Dec28th and there are no double game weeks before then.

              Does this change your opinion?

Ahhh i forgot about that change, still used to the one unlimited WC and one January WC from previous years.

However, i still think i would stick if i were you. Because your team suits the upcoming fixtures rly well, and could likely gain value via good performances. Not to mention a lot of points.

I say stick with what you have, give it a few weeks, if you're still struggling then you could play the WC. But i wouldn't rush to use it, its only GW2, there's like 17 more Gameweeks left that you could Wildcard on.

I do get your argument about team value, but imagine you change your team and get your value up, but your points suffer, and players you brought in value start to drop. Then you're screwed.

Ultimately up to you, but i'd say stick with that team. Hope it works out for you
