We delve into the data this evening in our first members article of the week. Watford, Man City and Everton’s strikers arrive under analysis, whilst we also assess United and Newcastle’s attacks before casting an eye over a couple of defensive differentials from City and Liverpool.

Seriously having a doubt on Barkley s abilities!! Lad plays deep in midfield with a lesse goal threat...so folks
    Barkley> Coutinho/ payet(if yes then who)

Payet, of those. Ozil instead of either.

Never been convinced with Barkley - seems to only score from long-range deflected shots. Would be tempted to ship to Ozil if you don't have him.

Ighalo's a thing of beauty. Watford have scored 9 goals while Ighalo's been on the pitch, notching in 7 goals & 2 assists. That's 100% contribution to goals, talk about impact 8O. He also boasts a very healthy conversion rate

    20% conversion rate: 7g/35 shots
    54% Sh%: 7g/13SoT

His xG from Paul Riley's table is a great watch, look at those shots in the box. Marvellous - https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CS51yqPXIAEXVdZ.jpg:large

Some tables for the up-sell - sort by shots in the box, http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/939/

Vs one of the worst defenses in the league (lei), http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/6810/ - sort by headed goal attempts conceded, aerial duels lost & goal attempts in box conceded.

...& he's only 5.5. Upcoming fixtures (lei, MUN, avl, NOR, sun, LIV, che). C'mon lads, where's the love? He's way more deserving of love than what the false prophet Martial Farts ever got.

My plan was that Vardy would obviously dry up and Vardy to Ighalo would happen. Just cant do it now!

      Aguero Lukaku Ighalo

      was the plan.

            4.5 KDB Yaya Sanchez Mahrez
            Lukaku Aguero Vardy

Don't think so Baldy, he's 5.5 & I think he'll get similar returns to whatever Kane/Lukaku produce tbh. I can't see the value or that big of a point swing in that front three IMO. Though what does sway me with that frontline is the matter that they're all arguably the best attacking assets with the most reliable source of points from their respective teams tbh.

              • 12 Years
              10 years, 1 month ago

I think it will be worth the value to be honest, his xG per 90 is a definite step 90 from the others I looked at last week and he's also yet to serve up any big chances for Troy Deeney whereas Lukaku and Kane have been able to serve up big chances to Kone and Lamela/Dembele on occasion. Also does it not worry you that every single danger zone SoT has been converted by Ighalo so far? A keepers got to get a glove on it more often in the future.

@Balders: Following our discussion last page regarding Ighalo's value vs Kane/Lukku.

That may be true about Kane's xG, I don't dispute he's still under performing relative to his xG, but I still don't think it's large enough of a discrepancy between the two warrant nearly 4.0m more IMO. You can take captaincy into account perhaps, but I'm not sure there's much for this argument now with Agüero in the equation as Kane's best fixtures on paper in the next six also coincide with ideal fixtures for both Agüero & Kane.

If you were to analyze this from a very bare-bones xG perspective, to point toward regression & under performance: Lukaku (total xG = 4.8, total goals = 6.00), Kane (total xG = 5.78, total goals = 4.00), Ighalo (total xG = 3.20, total goals = 7.00). Perhaps a fairer comparison can be drawn between Lukaku & Ighalo, is there really that much a difference of xG here to really warrant an extra 3.0m? I don't think so, Ighalo's still taking quality poacher's shots in the box & has good accuracy to boot., he has great positioning & awareness.

In terms of points per million, I just can't see how Lukaku & to a lesser extent Kane, provide that much more. Now with Agüero back in the mix, I think value takes more precedence. Unless you're expecting double-digit hauls from both (which Ighalo is also capable of), considering the fixtures (lei, MUN, avl, NOR, sun, LIV, che), I just can't look past Ighalo's value tbh.

Thinking along similar lines, Reedy. He's the ultimate Agüero enabler & has a better run-in than Vardy/Mahrez, IMO.

I just can't bring myself to sell either one of Ighalo and Vardy. It does restrict me upfront a bit, but at least I'll be able to pump some more money into midfield.

They amended the building warrant for my house. You would not believe how long I had to chase them to do the work in the first place. They clearly are not bothered as the invoice was 5 months ago. What company emails invoices anyway and expects payment? Mine just got lost with all of the junk I usually receive

Just looked up what that is. I would not feel morally compelled to pay that if they didn't chase me up. You have to pay someone for permission to do something to your own property. False economy if you ask me.

How to get the Butland/Myhill equation right this week? Have Dawson so a double Brom looks hopeful. Or Huth instead of Dawson.

    1. Reedy
      • 15 Years

I'd double on Brom. I might do the same at the expense of a Saints defender - and they play Sunderland! That's how low my expectations of United's attack have fallen.

    Defence is:
    Myhill (Hennesssey)
    Bellerin* Janmaat* VVD Francis Mariappa*

    1FT, 5.2m ITB.

Some issues with the defence with potentially three non-starters. How should I deal with it?

    @Fishy:

Yes, your attack is fine for sure. Maybe you can scrape out a decent back three this GW though, so although a defensive trannie could boost your CS prospects a bit this GW, I think the FT would have more use during the IB. Two FT's, one to bolster your defense perhaps or to set-up for the Agüero transition, who knows.

Defense is real worry though, IMO. Relying on two notorious injury-prone players in Jones & Evans to last you through December, the feast of rotation. Not to mention Huth, who not only plays or one of the weakest defenses in the league, has horrible long term fixtures to boot Gw14 onward (MUN, swa, CHE, eve, liv, MCI, BOU, tot). I'd be hard pressed to play him at all in December. On to Francis who also plays for a woeful defense & who long with Huth also has rather weak defensive fixtures come Gw14 (EVE, che, MUN, wba, CRY, ars, lei).

So depending on any injuries to your backline or bad news, I'd save & prepare to do some backline maintenance soon.

Don't underestimate Pulis' exaggerated bus away from home as his better away record has shown. Four CS away (wat, stk, avl, nor) with a perfect record thus far vs at home with two CS's (SOU, SUN) & conceding 14 from 6 games. Granted context is needed hiving faced (MCI, CHE, SOU, EVE, SUN, LEI) in those homers, though nevertheless, their away record last year with Puls was also very impressive, ManUnited's attack is also one of the least creative in the league - Sunderland (74), Aston Villa (80), Man United (81), Stoke (82), West Brom (83).

Fernandino and Yaya together in the middle of a 4-1-4-1 with Sterling and Navas on the wings was all sorts of brilliant.

Does anybody know what happens if you play AOA but then one of your mids/forwards doesn't play?

Does it auto-sub a defender? Does it still count as using your chip?

    Thanks

Incredible save, De Gea is the best in the world (or top 2 depending on your mood):

    http://coub.com/view/8zd04.gifv

Imagine how Doumbia feels..pretty much did everything right and even mostly sold De Gea on the feint to the left..

For the follow up he should have squared it to his teammate though. Although Smalling came running in like a champion, it would have hit Young anyway

yep agreed, though maybe whatever option he saw out of his peripheral before taking the shot "wasn't there" as Smalling covered a ton of ground in no time:

(alternatively only had eyes for goal and didn't notice his teammate haha)

United fan alert! Neuer is streaks ahead fully deserved 3rd in the Ballon D'or last year. He has dimensions to his game 99% of keepers don't even think about. As a keeper that Guardiola thinks could play as a midfielder in Bundesliga 3, that's just mind blowing. But yes very nice save 🙂

yes streaks ahead. He's a libero first and a keeper second and does both jobs to incredible levels.

This'll give a nice run down of just how good he is at the libero role and how important it is for Bayern and Germany:

As for best keeper in the world? He's not even near best in the premiership. He has raw talent that still needs to be refined. Cech and Lloris much more intelligent keepers imo

Disagree. But to each their own. 🙂

The only keeper in the Premier League that contests DDG for best is Courtois, Cech just behind the pair and Lloris behind the trio.

Up 77 compared to? Last season?

Think HoF has only till GW10. This GW11 halved my rank, so hopefully it only gets better from here..

Career has 696 so before this season, 619 is GW10, under 600 when it updates later this week.

Got it, thanks! Surprised that the HoF rank has gone up this season considering the poor start...

It's a solid start, hardly poor.

I guess it has improved in the recent weeks. Probably the need to take 5 hits in 11 weeks making me feel otherwise - think I took 3 or 4 hits whole of last season.

Great job running LMS btw, look forward to your update right after an OR update every week!

Cheers, seems GW2 was your closest week but made it by 6.

Jeez, it's amazing when a GW Score of 29 still beat the LMS score by 6. 😛

    @ Sepp

When is the FIFFSA tournament starting? Have all the unaffiliated managers been allocated to teams? Still time to create a new team?

There's something like 40 players on the unaffiliated list so plenty to choose from if you do start up a team 🙂

I imagine because Young looked good in his cameo at RB vs Palace and LVG took a risk because he knew we needed to win this.

The Master, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Doubt, Charlie Wilson’s War, his range shown in Boogie Nights, & of one of the best single performances of the decade, Capote. I think he wins for Capote, alone.

I have VVD; think he will come good and score and NOT keep CS so that the others don't get the CS points.

I'm so glad I'll four pints into sports night tonight before the Arsenal game kicks off. It'll be on the big screens in the union but I won't be too focused on it, we're going to get smashed.
