England claw back a two-goal deficit as Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy inspire an unlikely England comeback in Berlin. Jack Butland’s role in that win is curtailed as Stoke City and his 27% Fantasy Premier League ownership wait on news on a potential ankle ligament injury…

Butland’s Night Wrecked By Ankle Injury

Stoke City’s Jack Butland was stretchered off at the end of the first half against Germany with an ankle injury. Post-match reports have suggested that the Potter’s stopper may have suffered ligament damage, with Roy Hodgson confirming that Butland’s setback will be assessed….

“It’s an ankle injury but we don’t know the extent. When you’re talking about ligaments, there’s always some kind of worry but we’ll assess him.”

The Scout Says: Given that he’s the highest owned (27%) Fantasy Premier League (FPL) keeper, Butland now looks destined to suffer significant sales with is current 5.4 price tag set to plummet. Despite a superb season as the Stoke number one, Butland was already looking vulnerable for the season run-in given current form (one clean sheet in nine outings) and Stoke’s testing schedule (SWA, liv, TOT, mci). More significantly, he seems destined to give way to double Gameweek 34 signings once Wildcards are in play. With Joe Hart and Petr Cech yet to return to the fray, Butland’s injury would likely promote interest in Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet, Everton’s Joel Robles and Manchester United’s David de Gea as the choice options between the sticks for the coming weeks. Despite this, prior to Butland’s injury scare, he was acquired by more FPL managers heading into Gameweek 32 than any other keeper (21,212).

Kane and Vardy Fire Warning Shots

A pair of superbly taken goals by Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy steered England to an unlikely comeback. The Leicester striker’s sublime flick represented his first goal in six starts in all competitions, while Kane’s accurate drive was his sixth strike in his last five starts. Dele Alli failed to find the net for England but shimmered throughout and was arguably England’s most impressive performer.

The Scout Says: The performances of Kane, Vardy and Alli on the international stage underlines that fact that the decision to maximise double Gameweek 34 acquisitions comes packaged with significant risk. Together with Riyad Mahrez, these established FPL assets enjoy favourable Gameweek 35 home fixtures with Spurs hosting West Brom and Leicester facing Swansea. Given the motivation and confidence, the decision to shed all four appears to represent a major gamble.

Ozil Assists As Germany Cave In

While England’s comeback stole the headlines, Mesut Ozil played his part for Germany on the night, laying on the assist for Toni Kroos’ opener.

The Scout Says: Following a run of three consecutive league blanks, Ozil has suffered significant sales with almost 58,000 opting to show the playmaker the door in the current Gameweek. That has seen his ownership slip to 43% with his price dropping to 9.7 having stood at 10.0 back in Gameweek 29. However, with Arsenal facing three home fixtures in the next three Gameweeks (WAT, whm, CPL/WBA), Ozil’s stock is on the rise. With a points per game average (6.2) that’s second only to Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and far superior to team-mate Alexis Sanchez (4.7), the German sits atop our Watchlist rankings heading into a spell that will decide Arsenal’s participation in the title race.

Dembele Injury Scare For Spurs

Mousa Dembele trained for Belgium amid reports that he’s suffered a flare-up of an ankle complaint. Dembele will likely be assessed again prior to the friendly with Portugal on Tuesday.

The Scout Says: Tottenham will be concerned that these latest reports could lead to a further absence for Dembele. The classy midfielder has established himself as a key component of their title challenge, not least for his apparent impact on the role and output of both Dele Alli and Harry Kane. The Belgian recently missed Gameweeks 16, 20, 27 and 28 through injury, during which time Alli and Kane recorded just a single goal between them. Those seeking to hold the Spurs pairing will be keenly monitoring Dembele’s fitness in light of this recent report.

Mane Maintains Recent Form

Sadio Mane followed up his brace of goals against Liverpool in Gameweek 31 by providing both assists as Senegal beat Niger 2-0.

The Scout Says: Mane’s spurt of goals and assists typifies a player who has proved a hugely frustrating Fantasy asset this term. Priced at 7.3 in the FPL, the winger has struggled to cement his Southampton starting role but could now be granted further minutes as Ronald Koeman bids to revive the Saints’ attacking threat. Southampton’s next four fixtures (lei, NEW, eve, avl) could offer strong potential for returns, yet the absence of a double Gameweek serves as a major deterrent and will likely ensure that Mane continues to be largely ignored as an FPL option.

Niasse On the Scoresheet

Oumar Niasse notched for Senegal as they ran out winners in their African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Scout Says: Niasse’s strike will send a message to Roberto Martinez and could see the attacker edge closer to his first Premier League start. Classified as a 6.5 forward, Niasse has so far been limited to just 18-minutes off the bench in Gameweeks 29 and 30. While he is unlikely to appeal as a target, Niasse’s impact on the pitch time of Everton’s other attacking options requires consideration. The Toffees will endure nine fixtures over the remaining seven Gameweeks, with double fixtures in Gameweeks 33, 34 and 37 ensuring that we’ll see rotation at play. Certainly, those Fantasy managers intrigued by the differential prospects of Aaron Lennon (four goals and one assist in six) will be wary of Niasse, Gerard Deulofeu and Kevin Mirallas curtailing his pitch-time. As such, Ross Barkley appears to represent the most secure accompaniment to Romelu Lukaku, yet the fact he’s only delivered attacking returns (brace against Newcastle United) in one of his last 10 starts is a concern for would-be investors.

    Hi lads, can I get some thought on my latest DGW plan? (No hits and no wildcard used):

    GW33: Forster; Bellerin, Sakho, Fuchs; Mahrez, Ozil, Barkley*, Payet; Aguero, Vardy, Lukaku*.

    GW34: De Gea*; Bellerin*, Sakho*, Dawson*, Mahrez, Ozil*, Barkley*, Payet*, Aguero*, Welbeck*, Lukaku*.

    GW35: Forster; Bellerin, Dier, Sakho, Fuchs; Mahrez, Ozil, Alli; Aguero, Welbeck, Kane.

    * = DGW'er

    Then I'll play my WC in GW36. I am slightly worried about no Liverpool mid but hoping there'll be lots of rotation due to the Dormund games around that time. Sound reasonable? Anything you'd change?

    @piersmorgan I've been told on very good authority that Wenger's been offered a new 3-yr contract by Arsenal.
    If true, utterly outrageous. #afc

    Hi Guys, What are your thoughts on this plan?

    GW33 WC:

    De Gea - Elliot
    Bellerin - Dann - Sakho - Fuchs - Fores Mori
    Lingard - Courtinho - Sanchez - Payet - Mahrez
    Welbeck - Kun - Lukaku

    GW34 = Dann > Rojo and BB for 13 DGW players
    GW35 = Rojo > Clyne 10 players
    GW36 = Save FT
    GW36 = Welbeck + Kun > Costa + Martial 10DGW Players

    I can get this team out in 33 and 34 with No hits / no WC.

    Henna (butters)
    Otamendi/Bellerin/Sahko (Simpson/Wolly)
    Barkley/Özil/Payet/Firminho (Mahrez)
    Aguero/Lukaku/Kane.

    Robles - Elliot
    Otamendi - Bellerin - Rojo - Reid - Sakho
    Sanchez - Ozil - Firmino - Payet - Bolasie
    Aguero - Lukaku - Deeney

    GW34: Bolasie>Milner
    Can field 11 in GW35 and 11 DGWers in GW37 with FT.

    Not decided on Firmino vs. Coutinho and might go with Rashford over Deeney if Rooney is out for a little longer.

    With GW33 WC we can have max 5 outfield players from Utd/West Ham/Palace/Everton/Watford (if want to field 11 in GW35 without hits) so who do you drop from this (non-exhaustive) list?

    A) Lukaku
    B) United Def (Smalling/Rojo)
    C) United attacker (I'm seriously considering Rashford)
    D) Palace player (I'm favouring Dann due to relatively fewer nailed on def options from DGW teams)
    E) West Ham mid
    F) Everton Mid (probs Barkley)
    G) Watford attacker (only the obvious 2 are worth consideration)

    FWIW this is also my order of preference

      IMO:

      1. Lukaku

      3. Payet/Antonio/Lanzini
      4. Rashford/Deeney/Ighalo (await Rooney news)
      5. Bolasie or Barkley

          Sanchez is the more likely goalscorer, Ozil more assist. If they both explode Sanchez will get the bigger points you would imagine.

            Yeah. The fact that he would be my captain if I get Sanchez probably sways it. If I go Ozil, not sure I could handle giving him the armband

              It might not work out this way but Sanchez has the higher points ceiling. Assuming he continues his current form and continues getting sharper. I'd defo rather (c) Sanchez than Ozil if i had both.

    WC32 Draft 0.1itb

    Is the defense too prone to rotation/weak?

    Robles, Elliot
    Dann, Sakho, Gabriel, Janmaat, Simpson
    Ozil, Sanchez, Firmino, Payet, Barkley
    Aguero, Lukaku, Wickham

    GW33: Save
    GW34: Dann->Rojo
    GW35: Payet/Wickham -> Coutinho/Defoe
    GW36: Save
    GW37: Aguero/Sanchez/Janmaat -> Martial, Payet, Cresswell (-4)

      Rojo is a better pick than Janmaat even with his blank GW35 (maybe free up cash looking at Wickham alternatives)

    A) Barkley + Rashford
    B) Lennon + Martial

    1. Hurricane Gilbert

      Tough one. Both alternatives involve one player that is a rotation risk. I would say A, Rashford is such outstanding value and enables a really strong mid.

        Leaning towards A as well but it's so close. Rashford's value enables me to have Sanchez, Ozil, Firmino/Coutinho, Payet/Barkley and Mahrez as my midfield. Looks too juicy to ignore.

      Really close. B Just as slightly less rotation possibilities. Martial will play even if Rooney returns.

        Martial is definitely more nailed than Rashford but don't you also think Lennon is more likely to be rotated for Deulofeu than Barkley is? I should mention that I can afford to bench Rashford for some of the single game weeks.

          Oh i agree Lennon is as likely to get rotated as much as Rashford (assuming Rooney fitness). That's why from the options i picked the one that gives me a certain striker playing. No guarantees but that's the guy most likely to get you points.

          pretty sure kavali mentioned this in a previous comment.

          For this article, he just grabbed a bunch of well known ffs players and a few others (TL and ville ronke etc). He will be more systematic if he does the same again next year looking at HoF etc.

          As WR says though, veteran is about experience not just ranking. Anyway, jontys ranks have been consistently good. Too say he isn't a good player is totally unfair.

                          You fancy Eriksen (liv) or Alli (liv) to outscore Arnie (SWA) this week?

                          Actually, not enough cash for Arnie -> Payet. Would have to be Eriksen.

                    Whoever team you don't already have cover from. If you don't have either, ozil just.

                    Payet. Palace too open at the back.

                    If you have Alexis, I think it's enough ARS cover.
                    Get Payet in for Eriksen imo

                    For a hit? No. Would need a certain cleanie to essentially break even.

                      If he gets cleanie, is not even, it's +2 because otherwise he'd get 0

                  I just fell asleep on the sofa in a post easter egg slump and had a nightmare that I triple captained lukaku in week 33 and he got sent off in the first game.

                  Arguably the worst dream I've ever had.

                    Try dreaming the Sky game. Then you can sub him out for another captain 🙂

                  This is as balanced a WC33 team I could come up with.

                  Cech Robles
                  Bellerin Simpson Sakho Rojo JEvans
                  Barkley Coutinho Ozil Bolasie Payet
                  Aguero Lukaku Kane

                  0.1 ITB

                  Thoughts?

                    I really like that. Other than the lack of mahrez. Personally I think that's insane. But that's just me.

                      I could do Barkley to Mahrez in GW 34.

                    Overall, solid.

                    Not keen on Rojo, pretty sure he'll be rotated

                    Personally, I'd rather keep Mahrez than Kane.

                      I'd keep Mahrez and Kane. I'm not keen on Evans either.

                      Will contemplate that before pulling the trigger for sure. Would you let go of Kane instead?

                      I'm struggling to find a better striker that doesn't have a blank in GW35.

                      I have 9 to play in GW35 and would take a hit if I need to field 11.

                        Why take a hit when you could just plan the team more effectively?

                        And Evans fixtures are - City A, Watford H, Arsenal A, Spurs A. Seems a waste to me
