An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Wc question, at the point of playing my wc Do rises and drops no longer effect me till the start of the next game week or do I need to keep my eye on rises and fallers and transfer in/out throughout the week to maximise team value?

Opinion greatly appreciated here, if on wc, best 4players combo?

    1 Lukaku - Firmino + Coutinho - Foster
    2 Benteke - KDB + Coutinho - Heaton

    Question on price change :-

Brought Hazard in when his price was 10.1
    Current Price is 10.3
Selling Price (as of now) 10.2

What would happen if his Current Price drop back to 10.2 (if enough people ditch him this week)?
Will his Selling Price go back to 10.1 or stay at 10.2?

Back to 10.1, you need a 0.2 rise to get a 0.1 gain

  8. Sánchez

People selling Ibra ahead of 2 good home games. Are you not terrified his ownership and guaranteed captaincy by everyone will destroy you? Ibra is far more essential than aguero gw6-7 imo.

Odds are City will probably score more goals in the next 2 than United. You are right though, Zlatan is a good captain pick but it's not like going with Kun [or even Lukaku] during those GWs is madness.

Fair enough -- They are far and ahead the best attacking team [at least in the last couple of games] in the league so far. LIV not too far behind, I'd fancy Pep's City vs. any defence in the PL at the moment.

    Foster Jaku

    Any trade(s) you will recommend?

Obvious question -- What's your 'Kun back' plan?

Depending on how well Lamela does, I'd look into getting a LIV midfielder.

Regarding your defence, one of Shaw/Valencia = EVE defender.
      Friend = Holebas?

I don't think you have to WC. It will make getting all the players easier but I think you can spread this out over the course of 2/3 GWs.

        Thanks.
No kun back-plan, I had one untill I did Firmino - Sanchez today. Now I have to take a hit to get him in.
Thats why Im thinking of Wildcarding.
Will get rid of Lamela, Redmond, Shaw, Friend, Hazard, Gray

        1. Mata-Is-The-Juan
          • 12 Years

Lamela -- You might feel differently after he plays.

Redmond -- Guessing Bolasie? Saints fixtures do take a turn for the worse so I get this move. Looking at Redmond > Capoue myself and a hit to get Kun back.

Shaw -- If it's the injury concern, he's good. Rojo isn't much competition and Blind is playing as CB. Still think a Jose defender is a smart purchase.

Friend -- WAT fixtures looking good. Cheap as well too.

Hazard -- Can easily end the season with 10+ goals and assists. Will still blank IMO. Has a pretty sizable ownership as well. Getting rid too hasty I think.

Gray -- Yeah, BUR about to meet the league's big boys.

That's probably 2 players, 3 at a push that 'have' to be changed now. I'd save the WC.

Can't tell already, but for now would say sell Hazard for sure

His 4 last performances were bad (2 for Belgium, 2 for Chelsea), he doesn't like away games and his next 2 both are away games, and the next one is Arsenal.

For me it will probably be selling Benteke for Aguero and Hazard to a 4.5 (play Capoue each week) or selling Ibra for Aguero and Hazard to a 8.8+ (0.1 short for Mane, but think Eriksen could be a good pick under the radar)

        @Sanchez...

I wonder sometimes whether our obsession with Kun may be a bit over blown. He's a grat player and a great captain pick but last season all of Kane, Vardy and Lukaku out scored him in the prem....

How well could we have actually done with that front line if we'd been a little more courageous with our captain picks. I suspect we wouldn't have done too badly.

That's my point. The key phrase I used is that we wouldn't "have done too badly"...and of course we have to factor in what we may have done with the extra cash.

It's impossible to work out what would have happened if we'd done it and been braver with captain picks without Kun but the gap between a Kun team and a Kunless team is probably not as great as we think.

I get it. I think a lot of people can't get past you criticising their Kun-based strategy. And like you, I doubt this alternate strategy would produce the winner - but it is a possibility - and I'm sure there would be some who would get close.

Nope sorry Aguero is one of the best FPL prospects there's ever been when injury free. If anything this could be his best ever season

Think of it this way, when you own Aguero you almost never consider selling him (unless injured or suspended obviously) because he's so consistent. The same can't be said of Kane Vardy etc. they have spells where they don't score, Aguero never does

Nonsense. He killed of plenty of gameweeks for us at the beginning of last season. He was kak.

Goes to show how well he did after GW7 along with Kane.

Yeah...but then he has to catch up all the pts we lost by captaining for those missing weeks at the beginning of the season.

So that just backs up the point i'm making. The gap isn't as big as we think.

Those without in GW8 paid the price. Hoping on for GW8 was the optimal time.

No they didn't pay the price. They got captain pts from the first seven weeks...maybe...or at least some..whilst we didn't

What happened was that Kun captainers caught up some from having "paid the price" for captaining him for the first seven weeks.

That's a FPL myth. He scored twice in his first 9 games last season. The season before he had a spell when he scored in 3 games out of 15.

There is a similar myth that he's as good away as at home. 😕

I never agreed with that statement. We are also taking about last season.

You don't get points for 2 of those games so including them in a FPL conversation is whatever you want to call it.

It's been said above, but ignore his total score and consider his PPG. It's in the top 3 players, if not the highest.

Doesn't going Kun-less mean you have to get all your picks right? It's not like just cos you have extra money from now owning him, the expensive MIDs or mid-priced FWDs you can afford will get points.

Oh aye...you do indeed have to get them right...for certain. Between those three they scored about sixty goals..that's a lot of captain pts hiding in there somewhere.

My point is whether Kun is a good pick or not...of course he is...he's the best pick in the game, but it's more a discussion about whether or not the gap between a Kun team and a not Kun team is as big as we think it is. If we get it right of course...as you say.
