An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ok, so probably too early to say, but those that own Sanchez and Hazard, who you currently ditching to facilitate Kun? I was always on Sanchez but not so sure now.

Whats the reasoning for going Bolasie over Mirallas??

thot i had seen Mirallas being more og a goal and assist threat than bolasie, no...+ cheaper

Lets hope he doesn't get an OG.

He's cheaper. In fact, doing Mirallas -> Bolasie would give me the exact money for Costa -> Aguero.

Hmm, I changed my captain to benteke from hazard but just logged in and see that it has remained on hazard. Very disappointed, is there anything I can do? I definitely hit save as I then transferred in Iheanacho.

Picking your team and confirming your transfers are 2 different things. It's entirely possible you didn't save your team and clicked on the 'transfers' tab while Benteke was your unconfirmed captain.

Guys, need some help to understand this. In our head to head league, where we have an "odd" number of managers, the league generates a manager "AVERAGE" which I assume is computer generated. I cannot access the team "Average" to see their team. Is this team just scoring a total based on the average for the entire GW?

    Thanks lads..

Yea pal. The average is not a physical team. It's just a generated number that finds the average score from all players in the game. It's a good way to see how well/poorly you did in a gameweek 🙂

Ok, anyone on WC feel a little uneasy about drafting in these risers before tomorrow's games just in case your players do crazy well?

I mean, are Mane and Fer really going to rise again anyway?! Mane did nothing tonight and can't see Fer rising before next deadline even if he scores tbh.

Granted KDB and Baines could rise twice.

Not sure - I'd even go as far as unlikely. A lot of WCers will be getting rid. Those not on WC are mostly looking at bringing back a certain Man city striker, so your hoping on the 2 FTers and points hitters to enforce the drop.

    @Ruth

Between 2014-16 Kun has actually blanked more times at home than away(12 vs 10), but his overall record is much better at home(virtue of monster games vs Spurs & Newcastle). It's not as dispersed as you'd think.

I agree, I think he's the best "pure" striker in the world with the possible exception of Suarez. Messi and Neymar are forwards rather than strikers in my book.

As far as I am concerned this conversation has nothing to do with the excellence of Aguero. It has to do with a mistaken FFS mythology that gets in the way of people thinking for themselves as Wakey was doing.

The question is whether you can do better with £13m than invest it in Aguero.

He has 8 hat-tricks at home for City and 1 away last time I counted. Also more braces at home than away. Something like 8 home goals to 5 away, that kind of ratio. But I didn't look at the numbers for a while so it may have changed slightly.
