An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Kun is at -99.3% on fpl statistics, and surely now people are going to be transferring him in rather than out.

Tantalisingly close to a drop that would have allowed me to have my ideal WC lineup but he is trolling us all.

Cannot believe that he hasn't dropped below 13m despite the 000's who have sold him!

"Kun is at -99.3% on fpl statistics, and surely now people are going to be transferring him in rather than out."

There are a lot fewer savvy managers than you think. His flag doesn't come off for over 4 days. I think he'll drop, especially if one 'premium' striker scores this weekend (like Lukaku/Ibra/Kane)

            Transfers in: 3584
            Transfers out: 2042

Of course, if he's being brought in almost exclusively by wildcarders his effective NTI could still be negative.

        Again I hope you're right!

It's just when I and about 1 million others shipped him I expected his buy-back price in GW6 to be 12.8, or at least 12.9.

      Heaton, Foster
Shaw, Valencia, Koné, Friend, B. Smith
      Mane, Sanchez, Firmino, Hazard, Cazorla
      Benteke, Lukaku, Diomande

Playing 3-5-2 obviously. Gah. Should have saved transfers to bring Kun back.

Current WC draft. Sure it will change many times in the next few days

    Heaton, Pickford
    Valencia, Baines, Holebas, Evans, Amat
    KDB, Firmino, Bolasie, Antonio, Capoue
    Kun, Ibra, Deeney

If I can make 0.2 profit in the next week, KDB can become Sanchez. Could also downgrade Baines->Williams to do the same.

I've chosen to go with a goalie + backup goalie strategy: Heaton + Robinson (the number 2 at Burnley). If Heaton doesn't play, Robinson is assured of a start.

On the other hand, David Moyes has been pretty open about Pickford needing to prove his worth: http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/jordan-pickford-to-keep-his-place-for-sunderland-v-everton-1-8116655

"He played really well against Southampton and he needs to play well to keep his place."

I'd hate to see Heaton not play for some reason and then realize Pickford is on the bench too.

        http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/hull-city-s-eldin-jakupovic-admits-pressure-for-his-position-is-mounting/story-29721690-detail/story.html

          Yup, definitely.

Been trying to locate a great community article from a couple weeks ago that analyzed Heaton/Robinson and proved it to be a good combo. It seems to have vanished. I think it was called "rotation busting with heaton and robinson".

Not the game to judge Mane's attacking potential on

Is anyone else here playing the daily fantasy games this week?

OK, the highest scorer this week so far has 45 points - because he triple captained Henderson. That seriously does not compute. How do you wake up and decide to triple captain Henderson out of all players...?

Maybe he just wanted to try and be the guy with highest score at the end of the day.

But... But... Henderson! If you wanted to get the highest score at the end of the day you'd TC someone 'obvious', like Costa or Hazard or Mane.

I'm sure there's a few people with the same idea so the obvious ones wouldn't put him in 1st. I'd have gone for someone like Sturridge if I was looking for a differential though.

should I use my ft to get Mane in now or wait till league cup game gets over ? I'm worrying a double rise for Mane before the cup game if I don't get him now..

    Decided against the WC tonight.

    It's way too risky.

The players that I want on WC may get injured this weekend and I will end up looking like a proper fool and wouldn't have a clue as to who to get.

It's not as if you'd have unlimited transfers if they did get injured...

But it won't be the same team that I wanted to WC for.

If I want a Kun - Ibra - Lukaku frontline on WC and both Lukaku and Ibra get injured, then it would be a farce.

I really wouldn't want any other strikers so badly to warrant a WC.

I have 20(ish) minutes to decide whether to activate WC or not.

    Shall I, Sharn't I?

my team will look pretty decent if I do

        Foster - Jaku

Just buy Mane tonight then and wait.

Mane can be your FT this week if you later decide to not WC.
