Manchester United’s 2-1 win at the Emirates appears to have come at some cost, with Phil Jones reportedly facing “weeks” on the sidelines as just one of several casualties.

Jones was forced off after 17 minutes of the Emirates clash with an apparent ankle injury and Sir Alex Ferguson’s post match comments suggest that he could now face several weeks on the sidelines…

“It’s not good news for us…I think Jones will be out for a few weeks – it’s ankle ligaments.”

Reports state that Jones will undergo scans on the injury on Monday, at which point we will hopefully gain a confirmed term of absence.

Jones has suffered a number of knocks and niggles in his first season at Old Trafford and another setback would seem likely to diminish his Fantasy ownership further. The former Blackburn man has suffered heavy sales following his recent layoff with a jaw injury and illness.

There are also further reported knocks in the United camp, with Ferguson confirming that Michael Carrick had sustained a hamstring problem which left him stricken in the closing stages of today’s victory.

The Daily Mail also reports that Nani left the stadium in a protective boot having suffered an injury which forced him off on 75 minutes. Wayne Rooney is also reported to have been struggling with a knock which left him limping from the field on the final whistle.

Should Nani and Rooney face a spell on the sidelines, it would seem likely trigger significant FPL sales. Nani’s blank at the Emirates was his fifth consecutive game without returns, while Rooney has also gone off the boil, fetching just two assists in his last four league appearances.

We await further confirmation of those injuries from Old Trafford, with further reports likely to surface in tomorrow’s press.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Sess--Dempsey--Silva--Valencia--Bale

    Aguero--RVP--Keane

    Who do I bench next week? Currently looks like Keane will be benched.... but QPR Home for Villa, hmmm any thoughts?

      Keane

      Hughes could be a catalyst for some QPR form
      Bent and Agbonlahor are point stealers
      You don't have much choice

      If you won't play Keane then don't bring him in at all.

      Get a good GW24 option instead, because this is when you will bench Dempsey.

        Good point, but my 3rd striker is going to be benched, so might as well put Keane in there as his price will rise.

      Think it's too early for captain thoughts.

      Need to see what happens in FA cup first.

      I have the same midfield but with RVP, Sturridge, Dzeko as strikers.

      Thinking of benching Dzeko personally as the 5 mids look good for the match.

    Sorry for the repost, was stuck on the bottom of the previous page.

    Would you rather have Valencia or Walters for the next month or so? Currently have Walters, so transferring him out for Valencia would mean losing 0.3m on him.

            In FPL terms, however, Stoke win a lot of penalties, Walters takes them. Go figure. 😀

              I don't think Walters should be on pens. He's a poor pen taker and I honestly don't understand why Etherington was removed from the pen duty, since his execution was always perfect and I can't remember him missing one.

        But to answer the question, he was alright today. It's like Luiz, if he doesn't make a serious mistake he's suddenly up there with Vidic. This should be the absolute minimum expectation, not something to bang your drum about. It did amuse me when he tackled the ball out of play with no one around him though when he was charging forward. He's brain dead, basically.

                  Don't agree, although I do think Smalling is good, and far superior to Ballon d'Or Jones.

                    I tell you who is similar to Kos. Wes Brown. Great defender for 90% of the time but prone to stupid gaffs. Kos = french Wesley. They'll never be excellent.

                    Smalling is Utd's 2nd best defender at the moment, aged 21. Jones might be up there in 2 years, when he's that age.

        I'd like to, but you'd imagine him and Hernandez will get a start each out of the FA cup and the Stoke game. If Rooney's injured then yes, however I think Hernandez may start against Stoke. His movement and pace could cause their immobile cb's problems.

          Not overly fussed about the Stoke game, we'll know the team news before the deadline, so if he doesn't start then obviously I'll avoid.

              If he starts in the FA Cup against Liverpool (a indicator that he'll start at Stamford Bridge too) and then also against Stoke, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting him.

      I'll admit it, he's doing well, but i stand by what i said, he is not a 20 goal per season man and he is not good enough to lead Utd' line.

      I actually rate Hernandez more but Welbeck is better for the team at the moment.

    Liverpool bought a new player from Nigeria. Dalglish picked up a ball and said "Ball." He then made a kicking motion with his leg and said "Kick." Then he pointed to the goal and said "Goal. GOOAALL!" "Kick. Ball. GOOAALL" The Nigerian said "Sir, I'm able to speak English" Dalglish replied "Sit down you monkey, I'm talking to Andy Carroll."

    I hope everyone understands that this is just a joke, nothing more.

    ok folks

    quick question. How many on here are going/have gone with a keeper rotation (and which one) and How many have gone for one cheap keeper to fill the space and one expensive keeper to play every week (and who).

    Rotation seems risky with CS so hard to predict (Schwarzer/Sorensen seems the safest bet) but which keeper if you go the other way, don't want Hart and I'd spend too much time wanting City CS, am tempted by Cech as after United they have some nice fixtures and with Essien back they should tighten up. Reina looks good to go from GW30 as well.

      Krul/Mignolet is probably the best rotation. However, I'll probably go with either Vorm/Mignolet or Lindegaard/Mignolet as it's cheapest.

      Krul 5.0, cheapest NEW defender 4.2;
      Vorm I got at 4.2 but could sell for 4.7 and go Caulker for 4.0 to save funds.
      Lindegaard 4.4 (rising soonish), cheapest MNU defender 4.5;
      Mignolet 4.3, cheapest SUN defender 4.5;
      Schwarzer 4.8, cheapest FUL defender 3.9 (or 4.3 for Senderos if you're worried about Kelly not being nailed on).

      Apart from those defences and Liverpool and Man City I don't trust regular cleanies from anywhere else.

          Play Lindy most weeks; he's a Utd keeper for 4.4/4.5. As I said, cheapest. Admittedly it's hard to say what the difference in points would be if you spent a bit more on keepers with the best possible rotation; it would of course depend on what you could do with the extra money.

              Shout. Or Helguson, Fletcher, Morison, Graham. Loads of good budget strikers about right now. You could alternatively do BAE -> Evans if that will free up enough funds for the Walters -> Valencia switch, but I think I prefer the above.

      I guarantee you he'll score 2 points next game.

      If you look at his history he's the type that will get something like 2,2,2,10,2,2,17,2,2,64. Long term he's a pretty decent option though. He always does brilliant when I get him.

        I hope I'm still on the bandwagon when he gets that 64 pointer.

        What has happened in the past is absolutely no guarantee that he'll get 2 points in the next game. Football doesn't work like that.

      Poor refereeing handed City the game tbh they wouldn't have won with 9 men.
