Spurs miss the influence of Gareth Bale but drag themselves into the fifth round courtesy of a Rafael Van der Vaart strike. Everton also progress, as Landon Donovan inspires a comeback following another Danny Murphy spot-kick.

Landon Donovan
The on-loan American provide the quality that unlocked the Fulham defence, supplying two quality crosses which were converted by the heads of Denis Stracqualursi and Marouane Fellaini to give the Toffees the victory. Donaovan was a constant menace to the visitors down the right-flank and, in addition to his supply of key passes, also clocked up a number of goal attempts to emphasise his growing confidence and importance to the Everton cause. Sadly, his loan spell sees him depart Merseyside at the end of February and Everton’s fixtures in this remaining spell are not favourable, with City and Chelsea the visitors to Goodison. Even at just 7.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Donovan is a gamble, although that also makes him a ready-made differential.

Marouanne Fellaini
David Moyes is looking to maximise the goal threat from the Belgian, with talk of pushing his height and power into the impotent Everton attack before last night’s cup tie. While Moyes elected to start with Stracqualursi, supported by Tim Cahill, it was Fellaini who motored forward to provide the finish to Donovan’s delivery. Available for 6.1 in the FPL, we should monitor his progress as a goal threat in the coming weeks – having scored eight strikes in his first Premier League season, Fellaini could yet provide some value should Moyes unlock his ability to get into goalscoring situations and feed on the supply from Donovan and Leighton Baines.

Philippe Senderos
Martin Jol elected to bring Aaron Hughes into his starting lineup, dropping Senderos to the bench. Fantasy managers have been turning their attention to Senderos in recent weeks, having seen the Swiss defender establish himself alongside Brede Hangeland. At 4.3 in the FPL, he remains a worthy target, although last night’s team selection will cause concern. The fact that Fulham conceded two headers from crosses won’t bode well for Hughes’ chances of retaining his start, however. The general consensus appears to be that Senderos was rested, along with Bobby Zamora, and we should expect both to be on the teamsheet for the home clash with West Brom on Wednesday.

Rafael Van der Vaart
His 25-yard effort provided the one slither of quality from a drab Spurs performance at Vicarage Road, as Harry Redknapp’s side stumbled into the fourth round. Van der Vaart, playing behind a failing attack of Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, struck before half-time, his second goal in his last 14 appearances in all competitions. That spell has seen the Dutchman notch just once in 12 league showings, a return that has seen his Fantasy ownership dwindle as Gareth Bale’s continued to deliver as a cheaper alternative.

Gareth Bale
Bale was kept out of the action last night, with Redknapp stating he was carrying a slight thigh strain sustained in training. Fantasy managers will be uneasy about the prospect of Bale missing Tuesday’s potentially profitable clash with Wigan on Tuesday but, in all likelihood, Bale’s absence was a precaution, with Redknapp sounding optimistic on the injury…

He picked it up in training two days before the match. He felt it a bit but it’s not too bad.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

and possibly roo to aguero.. roo's form hasnt been great and city seem to have really good fixtures coming up?

Why didn't Maxi get sent off earlier? I haven't seen much discussion about it so would be interesting to hear what people think. For me it's a clear red. Halsey was going to his pocket but then decided against it!

i know essien got sent off for something less last season. but halsey was going to give a yellow but decided against it because maxi was getting subbed. i think he should have been sent off but because of the lack of clarity in the rules, referees make debatable decisions. so until the fa sort that out i won't really have a go at the ref

Second Season - 11k atm but could easily sink back to 30k or worse.

£50 bet on with my mate from pre-season (who doesn't know bout this site) I'll finish 10k.

Would have finished 10k last season if I hadn't wasted so many points on dumb transfers.

Slight groin injury for Colo, hope its nothing serious and hes just being rested. Not sure though.

I think Raylor is waaaay too much of a rotation risk now for FPL. He'll play the odd game but Santon has the LB berth for sure.

That's a good starting 11 but lets not get too ahead of ourselves, that's miles better than what the newcastle team has been for the last 4-5 years, but they won't win a league with it. I think Jonas is the weak link in that team.

No the league is Man Citys for the next five years at least. That first || is strong enough to compete for top 5 or 6 regularly though I think. Well with a better RB anyway and maybe a slight bit more strength in depth. Guthrie is good, theres a few others handy, but the likes of Lovenkrands etc arent.

          Alreet Attila

I'll repeat what I said yesterday, now somebody is on here to back me up. If we just look at the first eleven (with saylor in for willo), and ignore the fact that the top teams all have much stronger squads than us, Then we could even challenge for the top 4. I say that in the context that arsenal and chelsea are very poor, and it is the worst man utd team in a long time. I don't think that we WILL finish in the top four, because we will get injuries. But hypothetically speaking, if we didn't get any injuries, that first 11 could challenge for the top 4.

I think that Krul, Colo, Saylor, Cabeye, Tiote, and Ba could all challenge for (not necessarily get into) the first team squads of any team in the league NOW. Santon, Barfa and Cisse could do, if they live up to their potential. What do you reckon?

Yeah it is a strong squad. I imagine (unless there are real serious money issues at Man Utd) then Man U will strenghten considerably in the summer and they have been unlucky with injuries. Arsenal are suffering a little as Wenger has a pathological fear of signing anyone, Chelsea are a wildcard under AVB - might fix em in the summer, might get sacked, Spurs are strong, City are strong. I think we should be challenging the likes of Liverpool though, top 5-8 or so is where I see us. We do need to strenghten the depth of the team, if you are only one player off having Perch start then you know you're in trouble 😉

Absolutely. That's why I was speaking hypothetically. Our squad is nowhere near as strong as the "big 6". Its about time we had some good luck with injuries though!! Do you think that Ashley will allow us to improve the squad strength in the summer? If we finish in a europa spot, then he will have to.

The chances of finishing in a Europa spot, this year at least look slim, most likely 6th.

If Spurs, Chelsea, or Arsenal finish ahead of us and win the FA cup, 6th would be enough (I think?). We will finish higher than liverpool, so no need to worry about them.

Even better would be us getting into europe by WINNING the cup though!

Tough to say. Its all about who stays really, if the likes of Man Utd or man City come knocking with mega bids for one of our key players I wouldnt think that Ashley would put up much of a fight.
HOWEVER! Even if we did hypothetically sell say, Tiote, for the £20m ish mark, I'd have faith in Graham Carr picking another gem for around £4m, so we could be on to a good and healthy way of running the club.

Yeah. If we sold tiote for 20+ mill, and used the money to bring in the equivalent of santon (5m), cabeye (5m), Cisse (8m) and Ba (free), we would be looking in very good shape indeed. Of course we would be looking even better if we kept tiote (and all our best players) AND brought in the players that we need!

Looking like Rooney will be out for the Stoke game, so would you:

    1) Take another hit (to make it a total 8 point hit) for a 1 week punt and WC as planned for GW24.
    2) Wildcard this GW?

WC... would you bring in Evans or wait until GW28 when United's fixtures really turn sweet until the end of the season?

It so happens that Stoke's take a turn for the worst, so a ShawX > Evans transfer looks a decent one at that time.

I've got Shawcross, Kompany, Simpson at the minute... 2 to go.

Hmm. I already own Brown and I guess with not going for Mignolet, it could be wise to keep him, especially with MON at the helm.

Cheers, I'll keep him mind and see how he rotates with the rest of my defenders.

Brown rotates very well with Simpson and Shawcross with Kelly, plus you could play Kompany almost every week.

taiwo I know little about, and would always prefer to be 2 weeks behind, than gamble on someone. Especially when I'm not playing catchup in any mini-leagues.

      Kelly / Senderos are possibles.

When did the tickets for the CC final go on sale? Where can you buy them? Sorry if it's a stupid question but I don't have too much experience with buying tickets...

    Sorensten.

I see he wasn't even on the bench today. Reckon he might be a risk of being left out of the team come Tues/Wed ? I have him in my W/C Team and could do without spending transfers on 'keepers...

Anyone willing to RMT please? I'm planning on going Donovan->Silva this week, I have enough money for that. I play in the ESPN League, not FPL.

    G: Krull,Mignolet
D: Williamson, Walker, Simpson, Baines, Huth
M: Valencia, Bale, Dempsey, Donovan, McClean
    F: Aguero, RVP, Fletcher

    Thanks for any advice!

Thinking about bringing in Nasri for a few weeks, I already have Silva. I'm selling Rooney and S Petrov.

It's a bit of a punt obviously having both Nasri and Silva, others in my league have Dempsey - I was looking at Valencia or Nani but MCI have nice fixtures coming up. I could bring in Aguero, who I've had most of season, but want to bring in Demba Ba before his price rises again...

    Team would be

    Vorm (Sorenson)

    Cahill Evans Simpson BAE Rangel

Sessegnon - Bale - SILVA- Ben Arfa - NASRI

    Sturridge RVP Ba

I would also be able to afford to bring in Kompany or Richards next week for Simpson.
