Blackburn Rovers striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has become something of a forgotten man since his dismissal for a clumsy challenge on Fulham’s Danny Murphy in Gameweek 21. Fantasy managers moved quickly to axe the Nigerian as his three-match ban kicked in; within a week, 212,000 had transferred him out. The next two gameweeks saw a further 65,000 escort Yakubu from their teams, as mid-price alternatives were quickly snapped up.

When Blackburn Rovers signed the former Everton striker back in the summer, it was greeted with a mere shrug, perhaps even a sigh, from the majority of Fantasy managers. This is perhaps unsurprising, given he had managed just 27 points before being sent out on loan to Leicester last season.

This attitude changed, though, when, on his Blackburn debut in gameweek 5, Yakubu bagged a brace and notched the 3 bonus points as Rovers felled Arsenal 4-3. Sighs turned to gasps and shrugs soon became wide open arms as 16,000 Fantasy managers welcomed him into their teams on the back of his exploits against the Gunners.

Further points hauls were to follow in Gameweek 12, when he scored a further 2 goals and reeled in another maximum bonus point haul during a 3-3 away draw with Wigan. In Gameweek 14 came his crowning glory, though, as Yakubu grabbed all his side’s goals in the 4-2 victory over Swansea. He earned 21 points that week, joining a small and exclusive club of players including Clint Dempsey and Robin Van Persie who have managed to break the 20-point barrier this season. Another goal came in Gameweek 17 at home to Bolton, and a brace followed in Gameweek 19 as Blackburn shocked Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford.

By the time his enormous legs clattered into Danny Murphy, Yakubu had notched 12 goals and 11 bonus points in just 15 matches. A significant improvement on a previous goalscoring record that harvested a goal every three games, and easy to see just why the Nigerian had become one of the most sought-after strikers in Fantasy terms this season.

Now owned by just 3.6% of Fantasy managers, Yakubu looks to be a real differential and, while his 5.8 price tag is still higher than the 5.5 starting price, it still represents something of a discount, considering he’s previously peaked at 6.1.

In terms of points per game, his consistency has seen him average 5.5; put into perspective, this is the same as the likes of Nani and only just behind David Silva’s 5.6. Yakubu’s spot-kick duties have helped him to joint-fourth in the scoring charts, level with Edin Dzeko and more than Darren Bent.

Forthcoming fixtures are mixed for second-from-bottom Blackburn (QPR, mcy, AVL, wol, SUN,bol, MAN) but, as his exploits against Arsenal and United have shown, there is not much that can stand in the way of Yakubu’s pursuit of goals.

Many Blackburn fans may be furious at the running of their club by Indian food firm Venky’s, but at least Yakubu appears to be enjoying the meals they serve up at the club canteen, if his signature chant of “feed the Yak and he will score†is to be believed.

I prefer Richards personally. More attacking potential especially in the easier games and I think Zabaleta will be used in the Europa.

Richards doesn't have the fitness to play every game. I think he'll potentially score more when he plays, but it will be less consistent than Komp

    Vorm
    Kompany, J Evans, Kelly
    Silva, Bale, Valencia, Sess
    Ba, RVP (C), Aguero

    Bench: McClean, Simpson, Enrique

Not sure if I should ditch Enrique but id loose 0.5mil if I sold him and think he'll be good after liverpools tough spell.

    Thanks

Moyes wouldn't know what to do with this Spurs team. He's a good manager at getting results on a minimal budget but he plays incredibly negative football.

I'd rather have Martinez, Rodgers or Coyle who may not have much sucess but at attempt to play good football.

We're going to have to go abroad though I feel, I don't see Jose happening though.

I work with idiots, they seem to do thier jobs OK, but no one can seem to get simple recycling down. There are 12" decals on the dumpster with big red lines through items that are not recyclable, yet I find those items daily.

Just removed plastics bags full of regular trash, half eaten food items with all thier wrappers close by, a shoe, a can of paint, and several boxes that were in thier full un-broken down form. The dumpster only gets picked up every 14 days so it can get full real quick when there is a stove sized cardboard box in there in all it's glory.

I'm going to put some blame on the waste managment company as they made the trash dumpsters green and recyling ones are white. The rest of the blame that is on the soul-less pieces of crap that I work with.

    Idiots.

    rant over

Any else think 7/1 for Evra OR Suarez to get a yellow is a great bet?

Suarez or Evra to be sent off 16/1
Suarez or Evra to get a yellow card 7/1

He did a good job with poor england team and massive egos. Ok in the WC we should have beaten Algeria and USA but no way Germany were losing.

Dont think a tough manager will do for these players, more of a manager who will give them hugs and praise. Or a manager who is willing to rid the team of the old experienced players and egos.

I think you're just as likely to get points with Graham this week as you are are Ba. Sess and Siggy are close imo. Basically this is a bad week to make either of these transfers, but overall, it makes sense. If you don't want to lose the transfer, Sess to Sigg is your best option.

Advise needed please guys. Have been doing well since double game week but have become a bit stuck this gameweek. Here’s the situation:

    Vorm

    BAE Enrique Simpson Wilkinson Caulker

    Silva Dempsey Sess Bale Ferguson

    Rooney RVP Ba

Have already used my free transfer to do Valencia — Dempsey last night to beat the price rise but have been feeling all week I should take a 4 point hit and bring someone else in. Can’t see any worthwhile returns from my defense otherwise. What do you reckon, sit tight and hope for some clean sheets or get rid of BAE or Enrique for someone like Cahill or Bardsley. Hate takin 4 point hits, especially on defenders.

    Thanks all

Pretty awful week to be taking a 4 point hit for a defender. Cahill is not a certain start and Sunderland are away to Arsenal. Unless you can get a City defender in, which I'm guessing isn't an option, I'd just suck it up for now. Even City aren't anything like a guaranteed CS...
