Our series of members’ Monitor articles on Wildcard targets continues this evening with a look at Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea.

As has been the case for almost the entirety of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, the Spaniard sits on top of the positional rankings and is the most owned goalkeeper overall.

However, despite that, De Gea has rarely featured at the summit of our Watchlist rankings until this point, with his two double Gameweeks and kind schedule now a major factor.

De Gea has accumulated 144 FPL points, six points clear of his nearest challenger (Manchester City’s Ederson), while an average of 4.8 points per match (ppm) is bettered only by Burnley’s Nick Pope (4.9ppm).

Amazingly, De Gea is now just five points short of Tom Heaton’s league-leading 149-point haul recorded last season – despite the United keeper still having eight matches left to play.

More impressively, should he maintain his current per-game averages, De Gea even looks poised to break Joe Hart’s single-season record of 166 points recorded in 2011/12 – when the City keeper combined 17 shutouts with 99 saves.

On the basis of these numbers, it would seem impossible to argue that anybody but De Gea belongs between the sticks of in our squads over the final eight Gameweeks.

Digging deeper into the keeper’s numbers, however, highlights a surprising decline in output.

How’s this WC team looking with only bench boost remaining?

Plan to bench boost with 9 DGW players in 34 then roll into 35 with 9 players + 2FT to bring in City.

    DDG Hennessy
    Bailly Roberston Tark Lowton Morgan
    Salah Mahrez Son Gudmunsson Mili
    Auba Lukaku Firmino

People who are planning on BB gw34, FH35 and TC 37.

Have any of you been tempted to swap 35&37? As I’m TC Salah in gw35 and FH in gw37?

Doing that would mean a weakened team in GW34 and 35 and using TC in a single GW...

Yeah true Rainer. I would still have 9-10dgw players in gw34 with the dgw players with a very good fixture ie Baines, Salah, Arnie, Auba et al. Then 8-10 in 35 without hits...

Not what you asked, but have you considered FH34, BB37?

Think it makes a lot of sense if you wildcarding and not planning on TC37.

Argh - spent all that time working that out, only to realise that we can't use RMT for 37 yet - as it doesn't have the second games yet.

            We'll have to wait.. .

Currently have 1.3m ITB for Aub to Lukaku in 34. Should I just spend it on my WC and use 2 FT to get Lukaku? Cheers

    DDG / Ryan
    Vert / Alonso / Smalling / Lowton / Morgan
    Salah / Son / Mahrez / Willian / Gross
    Aub / Vardy / Barnes

Brave move! I think Firmino could well out score Vardy between weeks 32 and 36- both have same number of games. Concern about Vardy is no big scores. Game week 1 he got 2 goals otherwise max of 1 in any game. Whereas Firmino having best ever scoring season.

Currently on the template murray firmino auba, with auba to lukaku in 34.

Hate planning transfers ahead as they never seem to work out, and such a plum fixture for lukaku this week.

The key in this game is knowing when to move forward. Son and Firmino (to a lesser extent) can have explosive scores but also a number of 2s in a row. Firmino is in excellent form and is excellent value but I am unsure he will outscore Lukaku who has 8 games left while Firmino has 7 left, including 1 he may be rested for if Klopp's history is any indication. 8 vs 6 games I'd go with Rom.

Have a problem, have exactly itb to do Auba and Firmino to Lukaku and Vardy. Probably Lukaku atleast is rising before dgw34 and im not allowed to do it then. Should I downgrade whom?
    DeGea - Ryan
    Alonso - Morgan - Smalling - Lowtom - VdH
    Son - Mahrez - Salah - Willian - Gudmunsson
    Auba - Firmino - Barnes
Looks that only one to downgrade is Gudmunssom, hes on bench and just playing in DGW when BB.
Cork looks so much cheaper but hes going to get 2+2 point probably.

Just about to post something on this.
I'm slowly resigning myself to losing Firmino, it's decision time on Salah now or whether those are my two GW34 transfers.

Yeah it’s a toughie, as it would pretty much allow me total freedom then to really go for DGW forwards, and my ML win.
        Risky business.
I could always lose him later like you say with GW 34 transfers, but just feel it’s best i make a decision this week about it.

I feel the same - am going for an alternative strategy to accommodate Firmino and Aubameyang long term:

          FH34, BB37. TC Salah against WBA/Stoke.

Just gave it a quick look, yeah it’s certainly a viable alternative plan, i do not have FH though, so that’s the only reason really i feel like i need to look a bit more aggressively into the future with who i’m going to pick.

        Firmino x 2 games v Vardy x 4 games.
        Firmino x 2 games v Lukaku x 4 games.
That's what it looks like it's boiling down to and the answer is pretty straight forward.

It all depends on the replacement.

I think I am a bit more likely to lose Salah myself but all options are open. I'm pretty settled on a GW35 FH now so that would make losing them easier.

I do think keeping Liverpool players in GW34 is very reasonable, though. The GW34 fixture is excellent.

I am struggling with Auba-Vardy-Firmino OR Auba-Vardy-Lukaku as my WC team.

If I keep Firmino it means I am forced into a transfer in GW34 (Auba -> Lukaku) but I probably get Alonso instead of Christensen/Smalling in my side.

But why can't you keep Auba in GW34? I will be. 🙂

If I wanted an United attacker it would more likely be Sanchez than Lukaku.

Aah apologies, regardless, I don't think I could bear watching MOTD with no Salah against Bournmouth at home lol. I'm considering ditching him in 37 though.

                  Yes, it's a great fixture. That's why it's a tough decision.

They play the 2nd leg CL against City 4 days before. If Liverpool go out it makes it more likely that I'd keep Salah/Firmino. If they go through I'd more likely let those two go, or at least one of them.

Ruth, you really rate Sanchez higher than Lukaku fpl wise?

Yes, I think so though I'm not super keen on either.

Sánchez has actually had better numbers and a higher xG than Lukaku over the last weeks and apparently he has pens too. He has found it a bit tough settling in at Old Trafford by his own admission but does anyone believe that his class won't out soon enough?

Sánchez and Lukaku are virtually the same price and if you look at combinations then (for example) Alexis & Barnes will only cost you a tad more than Gudmundsson & Lukaku (a combination that is getting a lot of mentions) and a fair bit less than the Groß/Lukaku combo. There is also a nice tweak there whereby Barnes could easily become Ayew in GW37, giving an extra doubler (and pretty clearly the best Swansea attacker). If I were on wildcard I'd be looking at something like that probably.

My reservation is that United's attacking play isn't really firing and there is a case to think that both players may actually be over-priced. If I had to have one or other it would probably be Sánchez. As it stands it will probably be neither.

    DDG - Ryan

    Alonso - Morgan - Tark - Lowton - Mariappa

    Lloris Dubravka

    Auba Vardy Firmino

    1. Mustafi or Monreal?

Nice to see a fellow FH34, BB37. Not too many of us around these parts.

        1) I'm going Mustafi. Seems less prone to rotation.
        2) Close thing. VdH as you don't have Fabianski like I do.
        3) Probably. I'm going with Sterling though for value reasons.

      2) Vdh easy of those two, ditched Lowton for VdH yesterday, but we need to ask how nailed he is. Because now I can't remember if someone else a bit more expensive was recommended.

      4) Morgan nailed, Chil not. Was benched when Amartey got his injury.
