If it wasn’t for his penchant for yellow, Blackburn’s utility man Jason Lowe would be a mere speck on the Fantasy landscape. Given that he’s been sitting on top of our Suspension Tightrope for the last few weeks, though, it’s only fair Lowe gets his day in the sun:

In the course of his 21 league appearances, and 1763 minutes, Lowe has managed to concede just 19 fouls (1 foul every 92.8 minutes). As highlighted a couple of weeks ago, that’s not a great deal compared to the 61 fouls chalked up against Grant Holt in only 1429 minutes (1 foul every 23.4 minutes).

Thanks to another caution in Saturday’s win over QPR, however, the Blackburn utility man has now accumulated 9 league cards to add to his league cup indiscretion, and those 10 bookings will land him a stern talking to and a two-match ban from the FA. Lowe will therefore be missing from Rovers’ Gameweek 26 and 27 fixtures, away at Manchester City and home to Aston Villa.

Elsewhere this gameweek, there was also an eighth yellow card for Chelsea’s Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles, who now joins his club captain John Terry at the top of our tightrope widget. Scott Parker of Tottenham, Terry’s potential replacement in the England skipper role, earned his seventh caution of the season, as did Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne.

Parker’s latest booking is his 85th in the Premier League and now ranks him fifth on the all-time list, level with George Boateng (the Ghanain born Dutchman, once of Aston Villa and Middlesborough, now plying his trade at Nottingham Forest). He still trails Lee Bowyer (recently at Birmingham and now at Championship club, Ipswich) who amassed 101 Premier League cautions, and Kevin Davies, whose booking on Saturday brought up his ton.

Finally a nod to those returning from bans in time for the FA Cup matches this coming weekend. We should see Mario Balotelli (MCI), Yohan Cabaye (NEW) and Karl Henry (WOL) back in action, while those below -and, of course, any player seeing red in next week’s games- will sit out the next league fixture.

GAMEWEEK 26 BANS

  • Gaël Givet (BLA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 3 matches)
  • Jason Lowe (BLA) – 10 Yellows (first of 2 matches)
  • Djibril Cissé (QPR) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 3 matches)
  • Robert Huth (STO) – 1 Red for serious foul play (last of 3 matches)

Is Bosingwa nailed on to start these days? He's played 90 mins in the last 6 games. Thinking about Huth -> Bosingwa (and benching Rangel) this week with my freebie. Any better options?

no, bosingwa looked terrible against Everton and Cahill could come in, plus Terry is due to come back some time so I'd say it's a risk to mess around with Chelsea's defence at the minute, too much rotation risk

i came to a conclusion about my team philosophy after this gw.

NEVER bring a forward in based on just fixtures. EVER!! Im sure many better managers already stick to this mantra. Its just clear to me now. You only get 3 spots. In essence, RVP makes it only 2. You gotta have form players in those two spots. You cant afford not to. In midfield you can afford to have one out of form, maybe even 2. I would say when it comes to form v fixtures, the pendulum of importance swings from one side of the pitch to the other.

    GKs: Fixtures/price

DEF: Mostly fixtures for long term ownership, form somewhat important, more as a team than individual.

MID: A healthy combo of form and fixtures, but leaning more toward form.

FWD: Form Form Form Form Form

this philosophy should also reflect in transfers. for every 10 transfers used, typically i think the ratio should be: GK 0, Def 2, Mid 3, Fwd 5. naturally this fluctuates based on injuries, etc.
    more philosophy to follow.....

I'd agree with this up to a point, what are your strikers at the minute? I presume it's Ba and Aguero plus RVP?

yes. i just think when i WCed in aguero a few weeks back, i didnt pay mind to his terrible road form, the fact i already had silva for coverage, just seems i was married to aguero without being actually convinced by results. Obviously these next two city fixtures are the best of the bunch, i have to keep him, and maybe it will all balance out by then. But right now Im generally disappointed in myself for the selection. Not just because of the returns, but because of my thought process at the time.

I can't afford both Ba and Aguero but I think Aguero at least is the best option these next two GW's, I think Ba is unreliable with Cisse there now and Sunderland at home isn't an easy fixture, Steve Bruce might have been brutal at those derbies but MON is a different story altogether. But overall the reason I haven't been tempted to draft Aguero in just yet is because Dzeko/Balo could just as easily score the goals and I need differentials in my mini league

Guess this strategy varies from one manager to another.

I like to revolve my team around a cheap defense & hence, I usually find myself spending my FTs on them. Prefer to have mids & strikers for the medium term (period of 5 weeks atleast) since I strongly believe if you change strikers often, you are going to miss out on their big hauls. It was proven with Studge in the early half of the season when I went Studge - Ba - RVP and I'm hoping Kun will come good in the next two GWs.

      Overall, I think I've spent my % split of FTs this season should be around GK 0% - D 50% - M 30% - F 20%

Morning Dead-Zoners, all well I trust.

Jinswick, I wouldn't touch Chelsea players with a barge-pole atm, odd periods of their true abilities coupled with hours of lethargy and confusion. The team at the top most likely to be turned over by anyone imo. See what the FA cup and European game brings first. Hopefully their defence may start to look like it can keep a CS.

Indeed, this is very true, plus the two home fixtures make it tough to drop him really. You'd have to expect at least 2 assists. Do you mind me asking why you seem to have taken hits of about 84 points?? I'm only a few points behind you but without all those hits you might be miles ahead, I don't know whether this makes me or you look worse as a manager! I guess we both have different techniques at getting there is all!

I'd prefer some Man City midfield cover, to Sunderland though. I'll be getting rid of aguero after the next two, and don't have any defenders. Wouldn't feel comfortable with no city cover at all, and think i prefer Evans, Enrique and BAE over a city defender from GW28 onwards.

If we're talking about Man City cover then defence is the way to go, they're so much more defensive minded than Man Utd or Spurs. Mancini reverts back to 1-0 wins when he's scared, typical italian tactics really. And this kind of style is going to be the norm as the season nears the end. The nerves will set in and I don't think we'll see the early City that was thumping teams 5-0 etc

Yes. But spurs, liverpool and man utd are keeping clean sheets too, and the prices of their defenders compared with kompany, coupled with the much easier fixtures for the run in, and i might go without a city defender.

Not so sure about that last part, Martin. Yaya's return should help City dominate possession more and I expect him to create more chances for the likes of Aguero, etc. I do agree about looking outside of Yaya FPL-wise.

I'll be watching with envy from the sidelines after this week ... well played to get 41 or above i say! I reckon a lot of very generic teanms struggled this week, the differentials would have got some through!

Thanks again TM ... awesome work organising this!

I'll be watching too. The generics struggled big time. The 2 teams on 45 both have Kompany & had a double figure player in Graham/BAE.

Cheers Flynny, only just seen your post. I'm in a strange pickle as I have 3 transfers to use over the next 2 GWs (pretty set on WC in GW28), and if no injuries happen during the FA cup I'm not sure where to use them! Any ideas on a 2 GW plan for this lot? Was thinking Rangel -> Williamson this week and then have no idea about GW27!

    Schwarzer, Sorenson
    Kompany, Huth, Simpson, Rangel, Caulker
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sigurdsson, Moses
    RVP, Aguero, Ba

Two Swans defenders for their away games look ripe for repair 1 or two TFs there ( someone with two homes? ) There isn't really much wrong with it Jinswick. Schwarzer for the next two?

I guess. Fulham are pretty dire away from home though so wouldn't fancy them to keep put QPR in that one. A pretty risky punt could be Siggy & Aguero -> Valencia & Balotelli. Madness?

Yeah, my doubling up on SWA last week didn't really work out... 🙁

Either way they will both be benched or transferred out over the next 2 weeks (after which I'll wildcard).

I'll probably play Sorenson this week and then Schwarzer next week - seems the right move with their fixtures). Fancy Stoke and Newc to have a similar chance of a shutout this week, but Shawx has better chance of attacking returns. Which do you prefer of Rangel -> Wiliamson or Huth -> Shawx ??

I would say only worth it if you would captain Aguero, but not Ba. Both could go big the next few weeks. Aguero's 2nd fixture is better than Ba's, but we have 3 solid home fixtures (including WOL and NOR) in the next 4.

    Still here Jinswick?

How about Huth and one of your Swans Defenders probably Rangel for the funds, for two of Taiwo and Caldwell or Shawcross. I'm guessing that Sigurdsson is benchman for your front eight next two games.
I don't have these luxuries, having s*unked away my wildcard early in the season.

      Yep, still lurking around...

I'm not sure I can bring myself to getting in a WIG defender. Rangel & Huth -> Taiwo & ShawX could work, but then who would you bench from

      Sorenson (SWA), Schwarzer (qpr)
Kompany (BOL), ShawX (SWA), Simpson (WOL), Taiwo (FUL), Caulker (sto)

I think I'm either gonna do Huth -> Shawx and then take 2 gambles next week, or I'm gonna get in a MUN player this week for (nor) - something like Huth & Silva -> Lescott & Nani....whatcha reckon?

Oh goody, From what I saw from the tottenham game, Modric and Parker Completely dominated the midfield, had acres of space to pass the ball no pressure whatsoever, that I believe can be put down to a lack of cabaye and tiote, but what I also found was that the defending inside the box wasn't that great, maybe due to the hordes of spurs players that were present in the box, due to no pressure from newc midfield, the spurs players were able to get forward effectively without much danger of a counter. TBH the newcastle players seemed bewildered almost by the occasion even though they've beaten united even, it's there that I felt they lacked tiote and cabaye as well, no one to motivate them. The Adebayor goal can be taken as a great example, flicked on by saha, no pressure on adebayor, no initiative by the toon players to get to the ball, and ade volleys it home. In a nutshell Cabaye and tiote were sorely missed

      1) Lack of Tiote and Cabeye
      2) Not having any adequate defensive midfield cover - James Perch!!!!
      3) Williamson
      4) Our heads going collectively down for a short period when things are going badly. NB This is better with Tiote in to smash some heads.
      4) Simpson. Gets loads of stick on the message boards. I think he is much improved this season, but we definitely need to upgrade next season
      5) Santon

In that order. Williamson is a weak link that we will have to get by with until the end of the season, but with Tiote and Cabeye back, him (and the rest of the defense) will be less exposed.

He is our best defender by miles. You could argue that that isn't much of a claim! But I do feel that he is up there with the best. He has made a few errors recently, but again, that can at least partly be put down to the extra pressure from not having a centre midfield, and having to cover for Williamson as well.

True. But then I would say its the same for most defenders. Put him alongside somebody decent, and they only have to worry about what they are doing. Put him alongside Williamson (or Perch) and suddenly you've got to try and do you job, as well as covering for your partners mistakes.

Exactly. That's what I have been saying all along. First 11 is good enough to challenge for that 4th spot, but because our cover includes the likes of Perch, Williamson, Best, Ameobi, Obertan means that we (probably) won't be able to sustain a challenge. Shows what a good job Pardew has done up to now though, to be 1 pt from the champions league spots, despite having gaping holes all over the pitch for most of the season.

You also need better defenders even in your starting 11, your midfield is decent enough, Cabaye and tiote are very good, jonas is OK, I fail to understand what to do with your RM slot, and your forward pairing is good, whilst this team wouldn't have been able to challenge perhaps, in bygone years, this season with arsenal, chelsea and liverpool dropping points left, right and center you guys stand a genuine chance.

                    I agree with Udit here.

I'd rather have Sagna - Vermicelli - Koscileny - Gibbs, or Kelly - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique.

Your back 4 is more top 8 material imo. But CM is solid.

Santon Saylor Colo are as good as what arsenal or liverpool have. Simpson sadly isn't. And Saylor is out for the season (Williamson DEFINITELY isn't good enough for a top 4 challenge). I fully expect us to upgrade simpson in the summer, and get in a right mid (unless barfa comes good). Then we just need to fill in a few holes in the squad, and we'll be golden.

I agree that this newcastle team wouldn't have been able to challenge in years gone past. But Arsenal and Chelsea are much weaker than they have been in previous seasons.

Plenty on the message boards suggesting we move Jonas to the right (he is right footed) and bring in Ferguson (yes, THAT ferguson) on the left. Not a bad option at all i reckon. Fergie has looked sharp when he has got on recently. Pardew will probably put raylor back there though next week.

Madness Jinswick. The temptation to get rid of Silva is high and I don't doubt that there are highly ranked FPL teams without him in it. But at least wait to see how City play vs BLA with Yaya back to see if Silva's returns improve.

I think your team is solid outside of Huth so if anything, use 1FT to move him. Also not sure about having 2 Swans defenders so perhaps think about replacing Rangel. Looking ahead, make sure you give yourself enough room to bring in a Utd player (Evans, Valencia, Rooney, even Lindegaard if he's fit) in time for GW 28.

I'd weigh up having Lindegaard as rotation vs having someone else instead of Evans (if I am right?).

If the former gets the nod, I'd say it is better long term, as Evans face the threat of Jones and Smalling (although I have an inkling that SAF - for reasons unknown to the universe - prefer Evans to the two youngsters).
