World Cup Final Transfer Tips: The Big Numbers

The World Cup final between France and Croatia takes place this Sunday, but McDonald’s FIFA and Fantasy iTeam managers ought to be aware that the third-place play-off between Belgium and England – which takes place on Saturday at 3pm – also counts towards their Fantasy scores.

Although rotation can be expected for this hollow match between the losing semi-finalists, the fact that Fantasy managers get five free transfers in the McDonald’s FIFA game (three in Fantasy iTeam) ahead of this final round ought to be more than enough to enable a full starting XI at the very least.

That we will know the line-ups for the third-place play-off before the final World Cup Fantasy window shuts on Saturday afternoon will also help with our squad selections.

While we can confidently predict the full-strength starting XIs for France and Croatia ahead of the final, Saturday’s play-off tie is sure to feature some peripheral Belgian and English squad players. Fantasy managers would, therefore, be advised to look out for team news an hour or two before kick-off as there could well be some Fantasy differentials with low ownership on display that could help reduce or consolidate a mini-league deficit.

Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is available to Fantasy Football Scout members as part of their yearly subscription, provides clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Check out this new trailer previewing the World Cup content below…

don't read what you see on here. D.Silva is not in competition with Sterling, Sane and Mahrez. Silva has a completely different role. Fantastic option and very good price.

Mahrez frees up B Silva to play more centrally. Gundogan also now properly fit and will be hungry for pitch time

The story I read was that he wanted assurances on Hazard AND Willian staying so perhaps the value is to be had in Willian? Could be a great price is he's nailed on as an inverted winger/forward.

Willian wasn't tactically sound and that's why he was dropped by Conte. Hazard already has a free role and Willian staying forward would only cause Chelsea to have no cover if full backs/mf advance.

I need to find 1M to keep Jota in my team... where do I find it? I have:

By dropping Jota obviously. Just look at the calibre of player you're dropping for an unproven, overpriced pick.

      Zaha > Wood or

Did some "research" and found this:

The best (and the cheapest) fire-and-forget GK combos (value) according to previous season:
    8,5 mil: BHA Ryan-Steele (10 CS, 124 saves) 146 points
    8,5 mil: HUD Lössl-Hamer (10 CS, 103 saves) 135 points
    9,0 mil: EVE Pickford-Stekelenburg (10 CS, 121 saves) 145 points
9,0 ml: WHU Fabianski-Adrian (9 CS, 137 saves) 137 points (Only Fabianski's points, which one will play?)

There are other 9,0 mil GK team mates (WAT, BOU, the promoted clubs), but not as good as above (IMO). If you want better, you'd have to pay at least 9,5 mil to guarantee a playing GK or pick a pair of rotating GKs (which you know you'll pick the wrong guy to play 😉 )

I've always thought it's important to save as much money as possible when choosing your GKs. The value is with your GKs, the points are with the outfield players.

    DL;DR: Ryan-Steele FTW 🙂

    Your thoughts?

fully agree. Im going with Patricio as my set and forget keeper. Enough CS and save points to provide good value for money

Thanks a lot for this. Fabianski got 157 points, though, or am I missing something obvious?

He got 0.8 PPM more than Ryan last year, which isn't insignificant 🙂 You could always take the risk on Fabianski + 4.0. I'd also consider Pope + 4.0 to start the season if he looks to be nailed. But Ryan-Steele is also interesting. Brighton's fixtures may not be sweet enough to tempt me away from Fabianski tbh

      1. King Carlos
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

        Typo. 😀
Ryan-Steele is 0,5 mil cheaper and you don't have to worry about a GK not playing... Also those sweet sweet save points... mmmm... 😀 If you feel like gambling then Fab+4,0 or Pope+4,0 is fine (or any other combo) but that's a whole another story then, right?

        1. King Carlos
          • 8 Years
          5 years, 9 months ago

Ryan-Steele is 0,5 mil cheaper than Fab+Adrian...;) That 0,5 mil will go a long way with other players (for example Pogba 138 pts vs Son 178 pts)

Vardy will most likely miss 1-2 games due to WC. Austin and Wilson are a bit too unreliable for my liking, but the top 3 could all do well. Watch out for Tosun’s starting place however

Weirdly Pep hasn't said anything about the move yet, no quotes anywhere. I'm assuming he starts the season whilst Sterling is rested at least, before a 3 way battle for wide spots between Sané, Mahrez & Sterling.

The last 4 World Cup third place matches had a higher aggregate score than the final.

With 5 transfers available is the strategy to avoid the final and go all in on the third place match? Especially since we will have the ability to confirm line ups before the deadline.

Could easily play 3-5-2 if Deulofeu has a favourable game and plays as I expect/hope him too. Don't like the look of any premium Strikers and will Captain Salah for at least the first 4 GW's so not worth the investment there.

Not sure I would use two City slots on their defenders - what if Aguero / Mahrez / anyone starts firing for them, your leaving your team inflexible to respond to these kind of things imo.

Thanks, Edison could become Leno/Lloris or could go for Fabianksi & McCarthy say as a different option. Not sure I will ever invest 11m in to Aguero and not sure we will get 2 definite midfielders who start each week for City so Sane may be enough but agree there's not much flexibility.

Its one of those that's fine IF it works your flying but to be honest the safest approach is to pick a flexible team to adjust - this could be a power 5 mid season / a wing back season / the big hitter season / the cheap striker season we just don't know yet

        Fabianski - McCarthy
        Coleman - Azpi - Daniels - Cedric - TAA
        Salah - Jota - Sane - Mkhi - Gunnarson/4.5 mid

Don't give in to pressure to make your team as generic as everyone else's. This team looks really strong to me.
I'd play around with finding the money to turn Austin into Zaha but apart from that this could be really high scoring.

Trying to do some early work on setting up MLs etc. and was hoping for some help.

In the draft game, it seems like you can’t determine the draft order yourself. Is there a way around this? They fixed trading between managers, but it still seems to lack some core elements in terms of flexibility. Any other recommendations?

Crystal Palace are keen to sign West Ham winger Michail Antonio – and are considering a £15m bid, Sky Sports News understands. - SkySports

Pickford - Good fixtures, decent saves

      Stek - Backup

Robbo - arguably the best 6.0 defender

Jones - If he’s nailed he’s in, but will switch to any UTD starter at 5.5 if he isn’t

Mendy - could be risky with him being back for world cup but probs best non-ederson long term city option in def

Tomkins - could be any 4.5 not really sure

      Peltier - 4.0 started

      Salah - Salah.

Mahrez - need city attack and he’s my best bet atm

Ramsey - Will watch in preseason, could be good in potential key role

Jota - sometimes plays up top, potentially on PKs, like as a player

      Stephens - 4.5 starter

Auba - should have Pens, decent fixtures after GW2, beast

Tosun - fixtures and should score more with better system

King - should have pens and could retain form, worth the risk for me

thoughts on this, anything you personally don’t like?

You've got a few different picks from the 'template' that's forming here, think most are good.

Don't you think Wilson is a better option than King? Pretty sure he takes the pens as well?

Think Jota is a bit much with no prem games- Walcott is the same price for example.

But if you're happy with the team then I'm happy.

thanks for input, wilson always seems to get injured and i prefer king as a player, will watch in preseason. Jota is a bit of a risk but it will be a wait n see for now

Same with me on King and Jota. Wilson injury prone, Jota wish like Gross at last season.

        Similar to my current team.

I'd consider going with Zaha ahead of Tosun though but that's down to personal preference.

      Salah - D Silva - Sigurdsson - Deulofeu - Gunnarsson

      Aguero - Firmino - Zaha

if you’re going to play 3-4-3 i wouldn’t say it’s best to be rotating 3x 4.5 mil def

because you’ll have two on the bench each week, better to have a 4.0 and get the cash

Is this the year JWP becomes a viable 4th mid option?
Other suggestions at the price point/position?

I've always liked JWP as an option in that price, so yes if it helps facilitate Salah, and Kane/Aguero then I think he's a good shout.

Wolves last season had 6 pens, shot by different 6 players.

Any thoughts on this? Seems a bit dull..

      Ederson (4.0)
      Robertson - Coleman - Daniels - Tomkins - Peltier
      Salah - Eriksen - Mahrez - Walcott - 4.5
      Firmino - Zaha - Arnautovic

      Could do:
      Ederson + Coleman > Pickford + Mendy
      and/or
      Mahrez + Robertson > KdB + TAA

But both seem more risk at the moment.

Couple questions (2 very different ones):

A). Is VAR coming into play this coming season?
B). Thoughts on MCY attacking options now that Mahrez has joined ranks. (even more reduced minutes for Sane/Sterling etc)?

      1. dimo_fpl

        A) Don’t think so

        B) There will rotation

I asked the Mahrez question on the last page and got some good, detailed replies.

and no VAR not in the PL next season, to my knowledge

      Ederson
Coleman Alonso Robertson Bellerin Deulofeu Silva Sane Salah Jota
      Aubameyang
