Some Fantasy Premier League managers may have let England fever take over a little too much in their preparations for the new season this summer.

That’s because the ownership levels of Jordan Pickford (£5.0m), Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) and Harry Maguire (£5.5m), stand-out performers at the World Cup, have surged in the last two weeks.

Such trust may prove to be misplaced as the trio are currently in danger of missing Gameweek 1 after returning to training later than their respective team-mates.

Trippier (24.8 percent) and Maguire (21.2) are now the two most popular defenders in FPL after just two weeks of the game being open.

The pair are clearly responsible for the two percent dip in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s (£5.0m) ownership, which has pushed him from first place to third when it comes to popularity among defenders.

Marcos Alonso (£6.5m) remains on 17 percent despite his role at Chelsea jeopardised by the arrival of Maurizio Sarri.

Jan Bednarek’s spell as the most fashionable £4.0m defender has come to an end, presumably due to Southampton’s signing of Jannik Vestergaard (£5.0m). The new holder of that position is Scott Malone (£4.0m) with 11.1 percent ownership, although he appears to be the second-choice left-back behind Chris Lowë at Huddersfield.

Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has started both of Crystal Palace’s friendlies so far and resides in just 2.6 percent of squads.

Pickford’s rise up the charts may be the reason that David De Gea (£6.0m) has seen his lead at the top of the goalkeeper popularity contest trimmed.

The Spaniard enjoyed 34.6 percent ownership two weeks ago but now sits in just 31.6 of squads. Alternatively, the drop-off may have been caused by Jose Mourinho declaring that he was unlikely to use any World Cup players in the first few weeks of the season.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) remains in second place with 24.7 percent ownership but has lost two percent since our last check.

Just below the now third-place Pickford is Ederson (£5.5m) whose ownership remains stable at 17.4 percent, while Nick Pope (£5.0m) has lost two percent.

In midfield, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) remains comfortably the most popular player on the game, in 46.5 percent of squads.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) is in second place with 27.1 percent ownership with the much cheaper Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m) is the third most popular (21.4).

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s (£11.0m) strong start to pre-season, scoring five goals in the first three matches, has him climbing up the forwards charts. He is now in fourth place with 24.2 percent of managers backing him for Gameweek 1, dislodging Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m).

Top two Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) and Harry Kane (£12.5m) seem to have been the most fashionable sacrifice for managers getting the Arsenal man. Both of them were on roughly 39 percent ownership two weeks ago, they now have 37.8 and 33.6 respectively.

Thinking of starting with Firmino and Aguero with 1.5m itb.

This would allow me to get in Auba for Firmino in GW3 or Kane for Aguero if he starts well.

Just not sure this is better than putting the 1.5m into a punt and just downgrading to release the money.

By gw3 you'll have 2 free transfers so you can put that 1.5 million into your cheap def/mid who has 2 great fixtures at the start and then downgrade him when you're planning to switch to Kane/Aguero.

Reality is, you'll be wanting to jump into the gameweek 1 bandwagon to increase TV and will most likely not even hold on to the 1.5 ITB till GW3

Just been reading through a few comments and makes me raise one question...

Would you guys prefer to run with/build your team around..
    A) 1 captain option (11.0+) eg. A Salah or Aubameyang
    B) 2 captain options (11.0+) eg. Both Salah & Aubameyang

If you think Salah is worth 13m you should captain him most weeks imo.

      I have B,

Just have a scan of the RMTs and you'll have your answer.

Having just one is always risky.. What if you know that a UCL match is around and salah would be rested. You know he won't play 90 for sure. What will you do then? A punty captain! Rather have more than one captain option.
Also, value doesn't define a player to be worthy of a captain. A 9.5 firmino/Sane/eriksen or even 9 million players can easily haul in certain gameweeks and can be considered as captains.

I would rather start with B. By January last year Salah had proved he could be captain every week, but I prefer to have options available to begin with.

Also, I think if you don't have a premium Mid AND a premium Fwd it is harder to reshuffle your team if a standout star starts performing in one of those positions. Salah to Hazard is easy, as is Aubameyang to Kun, but if you only have mid price forwards and Kun hits the ground running you have some difficult decisions to make.

I think that it doesn’t matter much about value-don’t overthink it. Just choose the team that you think will get the most points

      Martial
      Salah and mahrez/Alexis

    Ederson, Button
    Robertson, Shaw, Tomkins, Peltier, W-B
    Salah, Mahrez, Jota, Lamela, Ward
    Aguero, Firmino, Zaha/Arnie

Too risky? Plan is to use 2FT and downgrade one of those 6.5 (probably Lamela) to get 5.0 mid who will look the best (few now and not sure who to pick) and ugrade 4.0 def who will be no starter and get 5.5 one.

So what rumoured transfers would people love to see/not see before the transfer window closes FPL wise?

Schmeical to chelsea would interest me
Yarry Mina to the prem also depending on price (less than 5m)
Maguire to utd would be a steal at 5.5m
RLC to somewhere he will get regular gametime would also be good
Fekir to liverpool would worry me re. Rotation
If hazard leaves and willian stays he would be straight in my team

The rumour of Batsman to Everton. I like his style. Schmeichel would be great. Martial to Chelsea would also be beautiful.

Straight in my team if it happens (probably wont though).
      Mina at 4.5 lol@that!
MUN would never buy overrated Arry Maguire (at least I hope not!)
True, love to see him get a run in Sarri's three man midfield though!
Wouldn't make much difference FPL wise imo.
A very underrated player, would also like to see him get an extended run in the team. But my feeling he he'd flatter to deceive FPLwise.

      Waiting on Mitrović to Fulham.
Good call on Willian if Hazard leaves, although will be interesting to see if they bring in a new big name replacement.
Grealish to Spurs would be a potential IF it happens (altough as a Villa fan I hope it doesn't!)

    Any thoughts or suggested improvements?

    Fabianski – Bettinelli
    Robertson – Mendy – Sakho – Daniels – Diop
    Salah – Martial – Jota – Walcott – Hughes
    Aubameyang – Zaha – Wood

2 mil left over to upgrade Martial to Mahrez (or in form 9.5 player) after first 2 GWs.
Jota or Walcott ready to be sacrificed for this season’s surprise package once they revel themselves.
Too scared to risk starting without Sarah 🙂

    Firmino-Aguero (kamara)

Started the idea of a 5-4-1 draft. I like really the look of it. 0.5 itb. Anyone who is sure he will start in a 5-4-1 this season?

    Fabianski - 4.0
Robertson - Mendy - Van Dijk - Bellerin - Coleman
    Salah - Mahrez - Martial - Willian - Costa
    Aubameyang - Quaner - Kamara

Is considering 4.5 X 5 for defence a bad idea?
Playing the 3 with the best fixtures. Can get you an attack of :

    Mahrez Eriksen Mane Hazard Sane
    Firmino Tosun 4.5

That's not the attack I'll be going with as I'm considering downgrading someone to fund hazard to Salah and also looking to get auba somehow.
But just to give you a just what a 4.5x5 rotation of defenders can offer you in attack.

I can look at firmino/mane any week you'll be capping salah.
Mahrez and Sane could be great captains too.. Gw2 for example.. I'd captain. Mahrez over Salah.

Has anyone seen the post of the team put together from last year under 100 Million that didn’t make 1 transfer or use one chip and beat the FPL Champ?

I think it’s brilliant and shows with a bit of luck and skill you can put together a great team from GW1 that has the possibility of performing well over the year.

The fun of the game is trying to figure out which players each week will perform the best. Problem is we over think each week.

Looking at his team a couple of things jumped out. He had a strong defense and not really any big hitters. Bench wasn’t weak but they played each week to get some type of points of a starter was not playing that game week.

This shows you how strong a balanced lineup is a he didn’t use a single chip or change his captain over the 38 weeks.

Can I get some advice please, I don’t think I’ve played a five back formation especially at the start of the season, is it viable up till the early wild card ?

    Current team:

    Ederson
    Shaw Davies Robertson Bellerin Coleman
    Silva Salah Sane
    Arnie Aubameyang

I think it's viable, but I'd make different choices. PVA and Douglas over Davies and Bellerin for me

Would you choose draft A or B?

    A) 3-5-2

    EDERSON
Robertson | Van Aanholt | Cedric
    Salah | D.SILVA | GROß | Kenedy | Neves
    Auba | Aguero

    Button | BENNETT | KAMARA | Peltier

1.5ITB for Aguero to Kane further down the line.

    B) 4-3-3

    RYAN
Robertson | Van Aanholt | Cedric | DANIELS
    Salah | Kenedy | Neves
    Auba | Aguero | KANE

    Button | CAIRNEY | CHALOBAH | Peltier

    0ITB

    Thanks

I'm surprised Pickford isn't in more RMT's. £5M, had a cracking WC, hasn't really got any competition, etc.

Played a big part in us winning our first ever shoot-out in a tournie. Made some great saves, but also had his suspect moments agreed.

No doubting he made a few good saves, but like you said looked suspect many times.

One of the goals we conceded against croatia was from a throw in he kicked out of play. could've also done better with a few goals he conceded. He kept 1 clean sheet. Our defence were the unsung heroes - if it was weak pickford would've shipped plenty more goals

Most GKs are decent IMO. Joe Hart is a good GK, for example. But when you play behind a crap defence then you are going to look bad.

Buffon, Lloris, Casillas, Neuer, De Gea all make mistakes, but their teams get them out of it, by scoring the goals. England can't score more than one goal generally so the GK makes a mistake and it is amplified.

I think there's viable options at 4.5. Then there's 5.5 Ederson for City defense so he's priced in between for Everton so I understand him not being so popular.

In your opinion if you want to have a balanced team for the first few GWs of the season

Who is the best Liverpool player to have out of Firmino and Salah

    and

Who is the best Man City player to have out of Aguero and Sane

    Any ideas would be welcomed

    A) lamela, martial, mahrez

    B) 5.5, siggy, sane

A might lead to early WC.

      A) looks great but is incredibly punty. Martial could be just a sub once Lukaku returns. Mahrez is competing with Sterling and faces the same problem. Lamela is probably the safest bet and also the cheapest.

      B) is safer but with a lower upside.

Most of the people who are talking about captaincy value/ having more than one captaincy options/ only captaining players worth more than 10mn
You'll will be tempted by richarlison at home to Stoke ( ik Stoke are relegated but this is what happened last season. People actually captained richarlison at home to Stoke for his haul of 1 point)

I am really interested to see what this means for Alonso. Sarri formation of 4-3-3 only really utilises one one person on the touchline, so kinda rules either Emerson or Alonso playing ahead of one another. And I really can't see Alonso being used has a CB.
