Fantasy Football Scout are pleased to announce the sixth instalment of the open-to-all free-to-enter Paddy Power Cup competition. Your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints and reigning champ sleepingmaster – in our hall of fame starts now. For full details, including the fantastic prizes on offer once more, read on…

What is the Paddy Power Cup?

The Paddy Power Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager with highest rank in the overall standings will progress.

How do I enter?

As with the Members Paddy Power Cup, entry for the competition is simple, just follow this link and fill out the form as required. A confirmation email will be sent shortly after you’ve submitted your details to acknowledge your entry has been received. Just like the FPL, multiple entries to the Cup are not permitted. Please ensure that you enter your FPL Team Id details correctly, any entries added incorrectly will not be entered into the qualifying round.

This cup is open to Members and Non-Members alike.

When does it start?

All entries received before the Gameweek 29 deadline will be entered into the qualifying round. We will then have 512 qualifiers for the first round – those 507 managers with the top scores in gameweek 29 (plus our five previous winners) will progress to the first round proper, which will be played in gameweek 30. Again, FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying round will be published around 24 hours after gameweek 29 has been completed and the draw for the first round will then follow.

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round will be published a day or two before each gameweek deadline.

Are there prizes?

Sponsors Paddy Power are supplying the competition with some great prizes and we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down as follows:

  • Winner – £150 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – £75 worth of free bets. £30 Amazon Voucher
  • 3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £20 Amazon Voucher

Although entry is open to all, entrants will need a Paddy Power account and be aged 18 and over to be eligible for some of the above prizes. Prizes are also subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.

If you’ve yet to register a Paddy Power account, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10.

If you’re going to bet with Paddy Power, always gamble responsibly.

    Theoretical question: If you made a joke team to catch price drops only, do you think it's possible to get the team value down to 60 million or less in one season?

      Nah, looking at the top players for price falls, which average about 1.0m, I'd say you'd be lucky to get below 90m...

        Actually no forget that... that's over a season, so if you were constantly catching every (or most) price fall, then conceivably you could calculate the sum of all the price falls and subtract that total from 100m and that would give you your answer...

        Give me 2 mins...

      Reckon you could get it near to there. Think how many players drop each night, anywhere from 1/2-6 on average I'd say, if you had each faller in every night, you'd easily drop 1 mil each GW. Your score would be horrendous the amount of hits you'd take though.

      Quite possibly. Losing team value is a lot easier than gaining because, A) there are more price falls and B) you actually lose every 0.1 for a player price fall, rather than gaining 0.1 for every 0.2 with the price rises, so you can swap players as much as you like.

        Ironically, the only drawback to this is you might not be able to afford the players who are actually dropping in price...

        So after a while you might have to find 15 players and stick with them, hoping they continue to fall...

        It stands to reason that the rate of your team value dropping will be a slow curve to a stop...

          The ideal is the end up with all of the players at 3.7/3.8 yet not be able to afford to upgrade them, with the rest of the team being 4.0 midfielders & cheapest strikers.

            Ah of course... theoretically the lowest possible value you could have at this point in the season is 56.4 million...

            That's simply the 15 cheapest players (2,5,5,3 in each position), assuming you somehow managed to whittle it down to that...

            Although this is not actually possible, it gives you your answer...

              Yeah, you'd have to look at the combined total, including funds in the bank.

              It'd be pretty easy to get a team value of around £60m given the number of fallers a week, you'd also get close to negative points with the hits and the lack of points because you're getting in players who are falling and hence not getting many points!

        Personally want Silva out but all replacements are risky...
        Utd mids - rotation mine field
        Walcott - eve is a tough game
        Gerrard - Lacks fitness, may be rested
        VDV - No form and not assured of starting place

    Afternoon chaps. Would love some thoughts on how to use my free this week:

    Krul, Vorm
    Lescott, Enrique, Evans, Santon, Caulker
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sigurdsson, McClean
    RVP, Rooney, Ba

    1 FT, 0 in bank

    A) Silva -> Young
    B) Ba -> Odemwingie
    C) McClean -> Miyaichi
    D) Santon -> ???

      "What's the talk in the Kop"

      Presumably something about next season being "their" season, after last night's win against Everton's reserves.

      And what more could Suarez have done to persuade you that he too is a certain starter?!

    Just came across this from Monday's Guardian: "Kenny Dalglish has launched an impassioned defence of his record at Liverpool, claiming he should not be judged by the club's league position alone and that kit deals are as important as victories."

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/mar/12/kenny-dalglish-kit-deals-liverpool

    😆 It's a long time since I read such drivel.

    Itching to get rid of Papisse Cisse and Drenthe. Anyone think Cisse will actually play this weekend?

    If you don't, whose the best striker for up to £7.8m? Pog or Odemthingie?

    If you do, which singer/group do I go with as the best cheapie midfielder I can get as a differential? James Morrison or RYO Speedwagon? (My friend is kicking my ass by 100 pts and has Siggy so he is not an option)

      It is generally up to you, it is possible as Young if he starts will be on the left and Young and Evra are always making forward runs. However, stick with BAE the 4 point hit isn't worth it.
