Jordi Gomez and Franco Di Santo stun the Emirates as Wigan’s remarkable run of form shows little sign of abating. Robin Van Persie has yet another off day, while Thomas Vermaelen picks up his sixth goal of the season as the Latics add Arsenal to their recent list of impressive scalps:

Robin Van Persie
Last night’s blank took the Dutchman’s recent tally to a single goal in the last six matches – a penalty in the 3-0 win at Wolves in Gameweek 33. While Wayne Rooney continues to grab the goals and Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez tear defences apart for City, Van Persie’s form is a major concern for his Fantasy owners. A home clash against Chelsea still looks obliging, given his hat-trick at the Bridge earlier this season but, with Arsenal facing a trip to Stoke in Gameweek 36 and the likes of Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic both in strong form and afforded a pair of fixtures apiece, the idea of offloading Van Persie is a ploy many Fantasy managers are currently considering as his campaign stutters to a close. It’s a risky tactic, though; Arsenal have Norwich and West Brom in the final two Gameweeks, however, affording the Gunners skipper plenty opportunity to pick up the points and prove the doubters wrong.

Thomas Vermaelen
The Belgian’s consolation goal for the Gunners brought his recent tally to three in the last seven Gameweeks as he continues to offer strong value at a price of 7.1. Vermaelen has now notched six times in just 25 appearances this term – two more than John Terry and Leighton Baines for defenders – and, with Laurent Koscielny now back from suspension, Arsenal are likely to more solid defensively going into the final four Gameweeks, with Johan Djourou surely returning to the bench. An average of 4.9 points per game is third best for the London outfit, behind Van Persie and Theo Walcott; if Vermaelen can stay injury-free next term, he looks set for significant investment.

Jordi Gomez
A minor knock to Shaun Maloney proved a blessing in disguise for the Latics last night. Robert Martinez handed the Spaniard his first start since Gameweek 28 and he didn’t disappoint. Gomez played a pivotal role in the 2-1 in, providing an assist for Franco Di Santo’s opener before notching his side’s second as Wigan won for the fourth time in the last five Gameweeks. The Latics have also racked up victories against Liverpool, Stoke and United, highlighting just how tricky the final hurdle can be for Fantasy managers, with the idea of playing the fixtures thrown firmly out the window.

While many will be confident of handing Clint Dempsey the captain’s armband next weekend as Wigan travel to the Cottage, the recent run of wins suggests Martinez’s men will be anything but pushovers. Although a Gameweek 36 home clash against Newcastle could prove problematic, the final two games of the season pit the in-form outfit against Blackburn and Wolves, suggesting another great escape could be firmly on the cards.

Simpson is surely part of your 3 defenders and is hardly your 4th best defensive choice this week? Which 3 are better? Only Evans and Verm I reckon.

With Wigan's revival is Dempsey still a better option than HBA. Thinking Sunderland at home in GW37 means Dempsey is the slightly better option long-term but last night's result has e doubting myself

I would have brought in HBA for Sess this week if it hadn't been for the huge bench headache it would have created

Think I'll stick with what I have and hope that Stoke keep them out

RVP was defended excellently by Wigan as was Walcott, I didn't see either of them get into more than a couple of square feet of space, except when Rosicky played a through ball down to Walcott on the right towards the end.

Quite a few. Not getting Ba in time, not switching to Cisse in time.. not getting Ryan Taylor earlier in the season and missing his points and profit.

Not sure you can learn that much for next season though - unless you become able to predict the future during the summer.

Not captaining RVP in that Blackburn game, I have no idea why I didn't but it took my two main rivals 50+ points ahead of me in one gameweek - adding to that I was already on a bad run for 1-2 gameweeks and It was a lead I could never get back

At first it was dumping Dempsey for Walcott recently...about the moment his second went in against Bolton really.

But over the last three weeks I'm only down 7pt on the deal, so not too bad.

Not getting Ba was probably my biggest regret.

Getting Fletcher in the week before big Mick was sacked was another blunder....by the time I got him out he'd cost me 0.5m.

Getting RVP in too late, missed the 5 scores in 6 weeks of 13-12-11-19-11. I'd have an extra 100 points now if you include captaining him.
Having Ba as VC instead of Dempsey a couple of months ago. Ba got -1, Dempsey got 15. A 16 point swing.
Selling Demps and he goes 15-10.
I'd be in the top 30 in the world only for these 3 mishaps.

    Hello all!

With 4 fixtures to the end and also main season targets off the window, I´m thinking of changing my generic team a bit to have same heavy diffs and have some fun also.. With this in mind is it too crazy to have an 8pt hit this GW and an 8 pt hit again for DGW?

I'm looking at a 4 point hit this week and an 8 for the DGW. Like you say you want to make the last few weeks a bit of fun before it's over and if we can't win the thing what is the difference between a few hundred places.

Aguero + Tevez this week then 3 DGW'ers in for 36.

Agreed. I'm taking an 8 point hit this week and 4 next week. My mini-league is won and I'm not that bothered about conceding a couple of hundred places, I'm not going to win. Finishing Top 3 in my country would be nice though and that is still possible for me, so not going too mad.

I'm not quite in the comfortable position with some points to make up in a couple of leagues. Relying on the WC to do it for me so may end up moving away from the more generic team (barring the obvious DGW players)

Into the top 50k for the 1st time this season – a far cry from a lot of you but tbh, bragging rights in my ML will always take precedent and I’ve seemingly got that wrapped up now with a 94 point lead.

Bloke in 2nd was proper lording it up at Christmas as well. I tried to tell them that I always kick on in the 2nd half of the season as I’ve always done, but they just didn’t want to listen….

The way this season has gone, I don't feel that comfy with 94!

Been a proper stuggle this year - definitely the toughest season for me personally with casuals and their Newcastle/Swansea defenders mopping up points.

Turning points were definitely the 2nd wildcard where I got Evans and Dempsey in and then when I made the switch from Aguero to Rooney and no-one else had either of them in their squads.

    Bogdan, Schwarzer
    Jevans, Verm. BAE. Caulker. McAuley
    Bale. Walcott. Siggy. Valencia. McClean
    RVP. Rooney. Demba Cisse

Have 0.4 in bank 1 FT, which would you do for the upcoming weeks?

    A) Walcott to Dempsey
    B) Walcott to HBA
    C) Rooney toTevez/ Aguero

I absolutely know that if I decide I will bench the wrong player this GW. Help me out here please!

    Valencia. Dempsey. Sessegnon. Sigurdsson. Walcott
    Rooney. RVP. Cisse.

Got it on Walcott currently, but I think he could well give a tired post Barcelona Chelsea a lovely drubbing. But I also fancy Sess considering Villas defensive crisis.

V, D and Siggy seem unbenchable at the moment. What dyu think guys?

exactly the same as my front 8 and at the moment I'm benching Sess. Sunderland aren't great away and they seem to have mid table security syndrome. Walcott was marked to oblivion last night, Chelsea are far too cocky to do that.

got to be between Sess and Walcott out of that.

      tough choice though.

So everything was set for last night- RVP (c) with Walcott on the wing. Nothing could go wrong except it did.

Like everyone else am wondering about changes for next week and GW36 and in particular about Sess and Rooney/RVP.

    Current team:

    Vorm/Mign
Clichy, J Evans, Simpson, (Turner, BAE)
    Siggy, Walcott, Valencia, HBA, (sess)
    Rooney, RVP, Cisse

    Options:
Sess-----Dempsey (so he's in for the DGW)
    Rooney/RVP-----Aguero/Tevez (4ph)

Typically a kneejerk reaction but I've just taken the lead in my mini-league and need to hang on. Wigan certainly have performed well against top teams but could quite easily flop against Fulham.

    Any opinions?

Slightly misleading "by 2 goals". The score was 3-1. Let's say the score is the same; if one's city striker of choice scores 2 of those and assists 1 that's a bagful of goals. And the circumstances were very different then - City were comfortable at the top of the table and Wolves were still in with a chance of survival.

So benching this week Valencia or Walcott?
    Valencia
+ Playing for the better side
    + Fairly good form
+ If Baines is out could be running at Phil Neville
    - Could be rotated

    Walcott
    + Playing the worse defence
+ Playing against a team who will have to chase around Barca
+ Playing against a team with defensive issues
    - Could be rotated
    - Rubbish last night
