How premium FPL assets have compared in 2019/20

Premium assets are often the ones we build our Fantasy Premier League teams around and generally the players we turn to for captaincy duties.

Their prohibitive prices mean that we can’t own them all at the same time and trying to find the right combination of big-hitters can be key to success in FPL.

With that in mind, we look at some of the most popular and highest-scoring premium assets of 2019/20 in closer detail.

The six leading players for FPL points – Mohamed Salah (£12.7m), Kevin De Bruyne (£10.6m), Sadio Mane (£12.5m), Jamie Vardy (£9.7m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.8m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) – are all featured, alongside Sergio Aguero (£11.8m).

Which of these players performs better at home? Who is more consistent on the road? And which of our septet racks up the most points against the top-flight also-rans? We’ll attempt to answer those questions and more in our latest Members’ article.

The likes of Harry Kane (£10.8m), Son Heung-min (£9.7m) and Marcus Rashford (£8.8m), who may all be fit by the time the Premier League is ready to emerge from this enforced hibernation, we will study separately over the coming weeks and months as they edge closer to re-entering the Fantasy radar.

Huge thank you - brilliant entertainment

Quick question on ticker. Just picked up various Wolves fixtures are red as are some Everton (seems odd given form of last 2 seasons) but Leicester are just about uniform grey.

    Any significance to this?

The colors are straight from FPL fixture difficulty rating, which is not very accurate. I think Legomané has made a ticker with more customized difficulties

Have not paid attention to any FPL since the league was suspended. Shocking to see that deadlines remained the same for weeks that do not exist. If the league comes back, my season, and I am sure many others, are over. Absolutely shocking.

Those deadlines don't change ever. Not with 9 games called off due to weather, not with 6 games off for cup reasons. It's a game, not real life.
The league won't restart. Bojo saw to that with his herd immunity blather: the UK is a month behind everyone else and I hope all here don't suffer for it.

But, if it did restart, the real life 'rules' (standards really, not written in stone) would be dispensed with and games would be staggered such that there are games each night. I believe FPL *might* have a rule about GW38 matches in place.

By the way, I think only one league in Europe (EU27+UK+EEA) has a plan officially voiced to try complete the season? That's here in Croatia. I still think that won't happen either.

Why do people feel the need to make bold statements like "the league wont restart" when they have no clue like the rest of us?

It's crazy to think the league won't restart I think. Why would they start a new one without finishing this one first? I know there's a few things to think about but it shouldn't be too difficult. And in relation to FPL, they can just add more game weeks pretty easily.

They’re not exactly famous for good decision making In real life though tbf... serving transfer ban for shenanigans, explaining away massive financial losses, huge unamortised transfer costs that will haunt them for the next few years via FFP, letting Willian get to within 10 weeks of contract expiry, letting Solskjær take 6 points off them in the league this season...

Simulation sounds pretty bang on 🙂

I said the simulator sounded bang on 🙂

Which it does - given Chelsea aren’t exactly famous for decision making in real life 😉

Footballers prices will drop post current crisis but even in the "old world" he wasnt worth that much - injury prone, lacks pace and can't score from freekicks.

Not sure if banter/trolling etc, but not being able to score from free kicks, or lacking pace haven’t stopped him having a prolific goal scoring record both domestically and internationally.

That’s the ultimate task of a striker, scoring goals, not having a YouTube compilation video of step overs.

If a club wanted to buy HK this summer he’d be as close to guaranteeing that club a minimum of 25 league goals per season for the next 5 years.
That return is the reason Spurs have been playing CL football for the last few years, ask them how much money that’s worth when discussing his transfer fee.

            • 4 Years

It's true about not stopping him scoring 20+ goals. Many strikers will do when the squad plays to one person's strength. Happened to Zlatan at United. The squad balance pays the price and results in lack of titles. Spurs have looked great when Jane wasn't playing. Think about the run to champions league final last season and the league form this year after he got injured. They only lost to Liverpool, then they started struggling when Son got injured. In other words (imo ) Spurs will be better if he leaves but they won't get over 80million. And it's only Utd that will buy him. City, Liverpool, Barca, REAL, PSG, Bayern, Dortmund etc have styles that won't suit him and many players better than him in those teams.

I’ll agree with you that the styles of the teams you mentioned don’t suit a Harry Kane type of player. There is an expectation to play attractive football with those teams.
Saying that I’d think he’d do well at Madrid, and Bayern.

The players who command the big transfer fees now have to offer the commercial benefits of the game too, Instagram following, foreign commercial markets etc. Kane doesn’t really offer that.

But from a footballing perspective, he puts the ball in the net, consistently, that’s worth a big transfer fee.

How much did Palace want for Zaha, he’s going to have an amazing YouTube video, I bet Pepe did as well, he was what...90m?
How much would Maddison and Grealish be this summer?

In short I agree he’s not worth 200m, but he’s worth more than 50m.

...and to the Auba comparison, Kane is 5 years younger? And because he doesn’t rely on pace, he’ll be able to play in the PL for longer than Auba will.

Similar to Kane’s “international record” (see below) I wouldn’t use his age, or his lack of pace as factors to illustrate his value for money over a signing like Aubameyang

He would represent one of the worst value signings in world football at the minute - the harsh truth is that he represents an over-priced, over-hyped, under-performing striker dining out on seasons passed who has also developed rather worrying fitness issues

I hope for his sake he gets back to some semblance of form, but even Mourinho’s insistence on getting the old Kane back fell totally flat within a couple of games he had dropped to being deeper than even Poch played him

Maybe he’ll undergo a positional conversion & become a central midfielder, but as a striker the game these days is so much more difficult for him

I think you’re being quite harsh on him.
Up until this season he was remarkable consistent in the amount of games he was playing and the goals he was scoring.
Obviously there are big problems at Spurs this season, change of manager, key players leaving, and of course he’s been injured.

You have to consider age within transfer value, that’s why 18/19 year old kids are commanding the highest transfer fees because clubs are looking at potential resale. Aubas next move will be his last, and even then he’s got two years in the a top European league tops.

The truth is harsh though - you just will never hear it during a match when his every touch is greeted with such warm appreciation from the English media

It’s not just this season either - the second half of last season was poor, and the first half of last season was reasonable, but not elite world class striker performance either

But it’s equally important to note that throughout this thread - I don’t think anyone is saying he is classically “bad” per se - he obviously is a talented footballer

But man alive the hype around him is seriously misguided - and as an investment in today’s transfer market? Forget about it - there’s a long list of forwards you go to before you get to Harry Kane I’m afraid

So therefore the way things are going, Man Utd are almost categorically guaranteed to sign him unfortunately for me as a utd fan 🙂

Who would you rather have at Man Utd?
                      Realistically this summer.

Top forwards around Europe right now,

Mbappe, obviously, but he’s not going to Utd.

                      Barca front three is aging.
Greizmann I suppose, but if you’re being critical of players over the last 18 months he’s top of that list.

                      Jovic at Real.

Lewandowski, Benzema both coming to the end of their elite level careers.

Not sure who else you’d want? Or rather who’s better than Kane.

Aubameyang would be so much better value than Kane it’s not even funny - he’s a better striker now, would be a quarter of the price, and from a succession planning perspective dovetails perfectly with Greenwood turning 22 as Auba is turning 33

Fitness is being redefined now though in several cases

Arjen Robben got faster in his 30’s rather than slower

Vardy had his hottest patch of form at 33

Ronaldo is still free scoring at 35

                        Messi still scoring at 32

Zlatan still scoring at 54 or whatever age he is now

I think we’re about to see a wave of players in their late 30’s still doing all kinds of damage where they would have been retired at the same age 15 years ago

If he was as good as British media say he would be winning trophies with a top team. Mbappe, Ronaldo, Messi, Lewandwoski, the Liverpool forwards, Aguero, Haaland, Grizeman, Suarez etc. Already, 10 players who would command a higher transfer fee than Kane and there is more. Some of them are even a lot older but are ahead of him. I stick with my 50mil.

Let’s not get too carried away with Kane’s “International Record”

Call me insane - but I’m not going to put him on a pedestal for scoring 21 goals in 12 games (against Lithuania, San Marino, Malta, Lithuania, Tunisia, Panama, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Kosovo)

He’s scored 11 goals in his other 33 international games, which have also been against some terrible teams, and have been padded out with penalties, so his international record doesn’t really mark him out as anything special imo

He had 4 very good goal scoring seasons consecutively between 2014-18, but since then he’s looked underwhelming when he hasn’t been injured - talk of €200m is just silly

Kane isn’t rubbish, he’s just not world class - Aubameyang for example is a better striker who will deliver more in the next 2-3 seasons for a quarter of that price due to his contract situation

Most strikers international records are boosted by playing poor teams. All about opinions granted. If Arsenal were playing Spurs in a PL decider in 2021 I'd put my money on Kane over Aubameyang to score the winner. Aubameyang scores plenty of goals but I think Kane has a better temperament than him to score decisive goals in big games. Both wouldn't even be in the same conversation as the king Agueroooo! Must look up that vid again 🙂

I wouldn’t even bring international football into the equation - it’s generally of a shockingly low quality, and to use it as some sort of illustration of Kane’s prowess is futile imo

Can't argue with any points raised by MAXIMUS as that is exactly what I think. I think current Man Utd is Kane's level. If you ask City to swap Sterling(even with a poor season ) for Kane, I think they would refuse.

Now that I’ve typed this - I have came to adisturbing realisation

As a Man Utd fan, it’s basically unavoidable that they will spend €200m on him & be stuck with him lumbering around Old Trafford scoring the odd brace against relegation fodder and the odd penalty against mid table teams in between trips to the physio room for the next 8 seasons 🙂

Like to think that paying 200m will get you footballer with a whole package not someone who may struggle against organised team when marked and not getting many passes.

Football is all about opinions and in my opinion based on watching him play in recent years - Harry Kane peaked as a striker and simply isnt worth money being quoted.

Anyone signing him is thinking what he can do when he isn't injured, not what he can't do, which was to carry a poor enough Spurs team, scoring 20 plus goals per PL season. They'll not look at him as being injury-prone but having a poor injury record that they will improve through a better injury prevention program, improved S&C but most of all, if he does get injured, not allowing him return to play until he's absolutely good to play. Levy also partly to blame too for never having a quality 2nd or 3rd striker therefore increasing the chances that Kane returned too early from injury. Plus Kane is a good leader on the pitch, also worth a few quid more.

Calling a team with Eriksen in midfield poor is a bit of a strech 😉

Wouldny be suprised if it wss Kane who was pushing for starts after injuries.

Not many decent forwards would join Spurs knowing that as long as he can run out to the pitch Kane will play.
