Che Adams (£6.0m) could offer value in Fantasy Premier League in 2020/21 if the way he finished last season is anything to go by.

The forward found the net four times in his final eight appearances of 2019/20, an encouraging statistic for anyone hoping he will nail down a starting place at Southampton.

If Adams can deliver on the promise shown at the back end of the previous campaign, there could be a knock-on effect of Fantasy darling Danny Ings (£8.5m), which is the focus of this article.

The Saints looked to be a lost cause when Leicester City beat them 9-0 back in October, but a remarkable turnaround in form led to 13 wins from their final 28 matches. In fact, following the restart, only Manchester City and Manchester United collected more points, which resulted in a comfortable mid-table finish.

Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has since been rewarded with a new contract, and there is evidence he’s starting to build a really good team that could challenge for a European place next season.

So, in this latest article, I’m going to have a closer look at two of their forwards. A comparison piece between the two would have been unthinkable back in December, and is possibly still a bit unfair on Ings who had a formidable season.

But with Adams finishing strongly and coming in at a significantly cheaper price, I’m going to have a look at both players individually, before zoning in on the last four Gameweeks of the season to compare the data. Yes, it’s a small sample size, but could it maybe give us an indication of what to expect going forward?

As this uses Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access it in full.

Not a fan of Mitro and I'd hold off Ziyech until you've seen him in action for a couple of games.

Thoughts on newly promoted teams often having a good start before 'being found out'?

I think of the three this year Leeds will be the most awkward to play against with Bielsas obsessive attention to detail and the teams ridiculous fitness levels. That said they like a quality finisher at present.

Can’t see Brom or Fulham causing anyone too much trouble.

          Bamford is another Jordan Rhodes.

Great in the Championship but not quite good enough in the Premier League.

Very good article I started with Adams last year because I had seen him in the championship and thought he would prosper.

For this year in my mind was always to get Ings after last years blistering form and Southampton on the up under Ralph. What has changed though is his price 8.5 might be a bit too high if I want Werner 9.5 which I probably do.

If Adams looks first choice pre season and Saints fixtures are ok I’ll probably start with him again and hope for a better outcome this year.

I assumed that he would be able to adapt to the Premier League quicker. But the difference between the Championship and the Premier League is significant. So I always take cautionary approach to newly promoted teams.

Aubamayang seems to be missing out on a lot of the draft teams being posted lately. I guess he's coming third in the premium midfielder race behind Salah and KDB, although I can't help but think that he could have an amazing season in an improving Arsenal side.

I agree Arsenal are improving but not sure if they are improving attacking-wise, I think they are defending better which was their main problem. While his output was similar, I preferred Auba under Emery as he didn’t have to do any defending.

He’s the most exciting option for me as I never really owned him as I typically stay away from premium strikers.

If Arsenal’s opening fixtures are great I’ll consider starting with him, especially if the Manchester clubs don’t have a GW 1 fixture.

There’s just so many proven performers in the Premium mids category at that price or below. If say, he rotates the captaincy option well with Salah (at home) I’d be excited to own him

      • 9 Years

You’ve got it right - the only premium midfielder I’d pick him over at their prices is Mane. Even of those with 3, Bruno is often the third because of his lower price.

He’ll do well this year, but will find it hard to fit him in at most points.

I’d prefer Foden at a million less, and Mahrez at a million more.

The successful big sides have been attacking in a 235 or 325 lately to overload back 4s, so it makes sense to defend in a 5 now.

Yeah, Burnley's squad is structured towards a 442, and it would require too much investment to change.

    Strategy query

Have a fairly tidy - and obviously theoretical - side for 99 mill using Koucek as 4th mid

The extra mill could go pretty much anywhere - midfield attack or less probably defence

Most likely use of it would be on a 5.5 in midfield or attack. Possibly valid strategy just to leave it itb? Rather than put it on the bench on someone specific better to wait for best 5.5 to emerge? That way I get to decide between both midfield and attack

5.5 not only use as it puts Kun Vardy Kane in reach too

I really think it’s irrelevant until tomorrow morning - your team is bound to change

Of course. Still interested in the validity of the idea.

Also of the players here not asterisked I’d regard as fairly fixture neutral. Others may get better fixtures of course.

        TAA Robbo 4.5* 4.5 * 4.0*
        12.0 KdB Greenwood Koucek 4.5*
        Werner Jim 4.5*

Bruno vs Rashford (+1m) is close one for me.

Me to, I did check the stats and Bruno is a long way in front, worth the 1m I think

In what sense? In the sense that having all 3 restricts the rest of your team? I agree!

Lyon are sooo good on the counter. Bayern's high line getting shredded with pace.

Any pace would do them in really, Neymar Mbappe must be licking their lips

Might not even get through at this rate.

Lyon should be a few goals up by now...

Was Salah always bad away? Only a great captain pick 50% of the time

When Mane played yes Salah was a bad option (as opposed to just captaining someone else)

Best long term points potential in 6-7m range?
        A. Foden
        B. Antonio
        C. Robbo
        D. Van Dijk
        E. Mitrovic

        Leaning towards Robbo/ Foden.

Somehow, Firmino at 9.5M has 2.6% ownership. Who are these managers?

Those stubborn Liverpool fans who think Firmino is the best striker in premier league who doesn't have the goals to show for it.
