Can Adams deliver on Project Restart promise and match Ings’ for FPL value?

Che Adams (£6.0m) could offer value in Fantasy Premier League in 2020/21 if the way he finished last season is anything to go by.

The forward found the net four times in his final eight appearances of 2019/20, an encouraging statistic for anyone hoping he will nail down a starting place at Southampton.

If Adams can deliver on the promise shown at the back end of the previous campaign, there could be a knock-on effect of Fantasy darling Danny Ings (£8.5m), which is the focus of this article.

The Saints looked to be a lost cause when Leicester City beat them 9-0 back in October, but a remarkable turnaround in form led to 13 wins from their final 28 matches. In fact, following the restart, only Manchester City and Manchester United collected more points, which resulted in a comfortable mid-table finish.

Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has since been rewarded with a new contract, and there is evidence he’s starting to build a really good team that could challenge for a European place next season.

So, in this latest article, I’m going to have a closer look at two of their forwards. A comparison piece between the two would have been unthinkable back in December, and is possibly still a bit unfair on Ings who had a formidable season.

But with Adams finishing strongly and coming in at a significantly cheaper price, I’m going to have a look at both players individually, before zoning in on the last four Gameweeks of the season to compare the data. Yes, it’s a small sample size, but could it maybe give us an indication of what to expect going forward?

As this uses Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access it in full.

    Who scores more?

Fernandes with Soucek or Greenwood with Grealish/Foden/7.0 mid

Its just estimated guess work at the moment but you're probably looking at something like:

      Bruno (200 points) + Soucek (100 points)
      Greenwood (140 points) + Grealish (150 points)

As you can see you probably can't go wrong with either option. I'd go with Bruno because it's easier to downgrade than upgrade.

Agree mate but I don't want to get my hopes up and be disappointed. He might his around 120 but I think 100 points for a 5 mil asset would be a decent return, anything extra is a bonus.

    It’s a shame Romero’s priced at 5m.

Had he been 4.5m he’d be a very interesting asset no matter where is may move.

    Rumours say Leeds or Chelsea.

That said, I would love if United could pull off a Romero for Phillips deal with Leeds. United would be a serious outfit with him holding midfield. He’d also guarantee his place in the England XI.

Rice would be a good signing for Utd

Fits the profile of player they’ve went after of late - plus Matic isn’t getting any younger, Pogba won’t be there forever and Fred isn’t exactly a world beater though he has improved

A midfield of Rice & McTominay would be horrible to play against & would give Bruno a lot of cover to do his thang in the #10 spot

Are you committed to Robbo or is VVD in the equation? Feels he’s equal value anyway if you commit long enough to hit his irregular goals.

          TAA and VVD.

          TAA self explanatory.

          VVD over Robbo cos:
          - Goal threat
          - Nailed. I would expect Tsimikas to eventually get mins.
          - 0.5 allows me to invest elsewhere.

This, I believe Robertson has only got 8 more points than VVD over the past 2 seasons so for 0.5 less I don't think you can go wrong.

Yep, and he won't he playing as much as he did in those last 2 seasons albeit still more than 30 apps. I wouldn't be surprised if VVD outscored Robbo to be honest.

I think you have almost convinced me!
Robertson higher points per game is what I'm thinking though.

Robertson clearly has a higher ceiling but VVD minutes should balance most of that out. I think they'll end up on similar points again.

                  What's the PPG difference?

Virgil .5 cheaper and Pool have signed a back up. Not to say Robbo won't score well, just a smart move to go VVD imo.

Only issue with VVD over Robbo is it'll need patience.
                    His attacking returns are spread.

                    Robbo gets way more assists.

But 0.5 goes long way at the start

2 clean sheets in 16 and they were still brilliant.

The only premium mids this time last year were Sterling, returning KDB and Son. Now look 🙂

One of the key questions for FPL is always the same. Who is the underpriced (£7.0m or less) midfielder and/or forward who will break out and get you around 170+ points this season?

    2019/20: Danny Ings - 198pts (£6.0m)
    2018/19: Raul Jimenez - 181pts (£5.5m), Ryan Fraser - 181pts (£5.5m), Callum Wilson - 168pts (£6.0m)
    2017/18: Pascal Gross - 164pts (£5.5m)
    2016/17: Josh King - 178pts (£6.0m)

My thoughts on those with the potential to do it, but where game time risk or the ability to become a donkey quickly (e.g. DCL and Wood) may inhibit them (£7.0m or less):

      Midfielders: Foden (£6.5m), Traore (£6.5m), Saka (£5.5m), ASM (£5.5m)
      Forwards: DCL (£7.0m), Wood (£6.5m), Antonio (£6.5m)

Saint-Maximin is a real possibility. If he had played every minute last season and kept the same scoring rate, he would have had 169 points. If Newcastle can get some other pieces around him, he could explode.

So does it make sense to start with all 3??

    Thanks

I guess if arsenal have Fulham and villa home in first few games it's more tempting!!

But likely that to go from Salah or kdb to auba is a hit....which I suppose is tolerable if captaining

I'd sacrifice kdb or salah if auba has those fixtures. I think 1 or 2 big premiums and rota with transfers for fixtures is the way

I think Salah and KDB are fixture proof so I'll have them regardless of fixtures. Third premium will depend somewhat on fixtures but it's most likely going to be Bruno

Pending fixtures I’m on 2 premium mids Salah KDB ( plus Greenwood) with 2 premium strikers Werner Martial up top. Getting Aubameyang as 3rd premium mid did not fit in structure

You have, what i consider to be, a lot of 'punts'

Is Leno going to start the season as no 1?
Is Saliba going to be a nailed starter?
Will Wolves sign a LB to oust Vinagre?
Given the previous records of Ritchie and Mitrovic, are they good options?

    JWP anyone?

6.0 for pens and all set pieces...

New contract and imo could be one of best seasons.

Also why do people go with premium attacks like Werner instead of going with wingers playing in midfield like Auba or Rashford/Greenwood. Much better if you ask me.

    1. Cheeto__Bandito

I'm not sure bout ASM... 3 goals and 5 assists last season (3 assists came from 1 game). Could have only had attacking returns for like 5gws out of 38. JWP just has more potential due to set pieces but I get you though.

22 goals will be hard for him again I think. Jimenez is the same price I think and I feel like he's a safer option. 8.5m for Ings though is a good value for points pick

Found Joe’s video on price points very interesting. Personally it’s not something I would want to spend too much time on because it sounds like you are trying to run away from your team straight away and lack conviction in your choices. Understand the premise but far too conservative for me.

Titles video price points: Has a 5.0 and 5.5 mid in team
Not the type of price points I like to have in my starting team.

    2. Brosstan
      • 9 Years
      3 years, 8 months ago

It's a boring and unnecessarily constricting approach imo. Most players can be gotten in with a mini wild card (2FTs and a hit) anyway

    3. diesel001
      • 7 Years
      3 years, 8 months ago

It is based on the premise that you can't win FPL in the first 8-10 GWs, but you can lose it.

Why? Because price volatility is at its highest in the first few GWs (when there are most active players). And a loss of £0.1m at the start of the season is effectively a £0.5m and points hits because of how the initial pricing structure is set.

So by choosing an initial option where you can downgrade to a player who is £0.5m / £1.0m less then it allows you to jump on the 'good' players without having to take hits to restructure completely.

      1. Brosstan
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 8 months ago

This assumes you aren't going to trust your initial team and will be jumping on the first bandwagon to appear. Which means you made a bad first team in the first place

        1. diesel001
          • 7 Years
          3 years, 8 months ago

Very easy to make a bad team though.

What if, in your team, you have Martial, Fernandes, Salah and Jimenez who all flop in GWs 1-4, but Rashford, Mane, Ziyech and Werner all go off.

Let's not pretend that there will be significant money movement from the earlier four to the latter four.

          1. Brosstan
            • 9 Years
            3 years, 8 months ago

The price change will be a lot more than .1 by game week 4 in that scenario. So for the .1 to really matter you have to knee jerk transfer after gw1 before you know what happens gw2-4. And then you are risking that your initial players go off after you sold to chase .1

I'd much rather keep at least until I have 2 FTs and then make the best of it. Worst case you have to keep your players after they have lost value. It's not as if the likes of salah martial and Fernandes will keep blanking throughout the season anyway

            1. Goonsquad245
              • 8 Years
              3 years, 8 months ago

Yep - game starts in GW3 for me in terms of transfer considerations, unless there’s an injury or someone is sold before GW2.

    4. Pumpkinhead - I'm ITK …

Price points is irrelevant to anything imo. Infact it is a distraction from the main objective of picking the players you think will score more points. Usually all gets out of sync after the first 4 gws anyway. Just like defender rotation

The price point idea hasn’t really bothered me at all in the past, but it’s bugging me with Fernandes this season. I don’t see him as a captain or or a season-keeper, and the only mid within a million of him would be a “sideways move” to Rashford. It’s encouraging me to go for the other Utd options

      1. Bennerman
        • 5 Years

Can I ask why all you people on here say 'price point', when in normal life you all say 'price', because the thing you are referring to is actually just called 'price'?

In the way I used it, “price point” could also apply to someone priced within a million, so that’s not the same price. “Price bracket” could also work if you prefer, I guess

He is tempting me to some extent. Number one on the list at that price point

Issue for me is he’s essentially competing with premium defenders at that price point. This is compounded by the issue that there aren’t very many contenders at that price. Not sure how I’d switch if he looked a wrong move. That can change of course
