Pre-Season

The best premium FPL forwards for 2020/21

Having already assessed the budget and mid-price forwards in the Fantasy Premier League price list, we round off our player-by-player guide to the new season with a look at the heavy hitters in attack.

Definitions of ‘premium’ will differ from person to person but for the purposes of this piece, it covers the 11 strikers whose starting prices are £8.0m and up.

It’s hard to remember a time when Fantasy managers didn’t have a single forward to choose from above £10.5m but that’s the situation we face in 2020/21, with five premium midfielders having been slapped with starting prices of £11.5m or more.

There could be value to be had up front, then, and some relative differentials, too: of the 15 players who currently have an FPL ownership of 20% of more, only three are £8.0m+ forwards.

Analysis of the big-money strikers follows, while you can read our run-through of the best goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders via the links below:

SERGIO AGUERO AND GABRIEL JESUS

Sergio Aguero (£10.5m) is now available at his cheapest ever price in FPL but there has been little discussion of him in the Fantasy world ahead of the new campaign, with Manchester City blanking in Gameweek 1 and question marks still existing over his fitness following a season-ending injury in June.

A total of 132 points was the Argentinean’s lowest score since 2012/13 but there were mitigating circumstances, with injuries and rotation seeing him miss 12 league matches altogether and endure another eight benchings.

When he’s available and starting he’s almost peerless as an FPL forward: Aguero was by some distance the pick of the bunch among strikers last season for attacking returns (1.30) per 90 minutes.

Positional rival Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) recorded exactly the same number of goals and assists combined as Aguero in 2019/20 (22) but had over 500 more minutes of pitch-time.

When we examine the big-budget forwards in this piece using the ‘per 90’ tool in our Premium Members Area to level the playing field, it’s a City one-two for big chances, penalty box touches, attempts on goal, shot on target and efforts in the box – you name it, Aguero and Jesus boss it.

The ‘per 90′ is the key part, however, and often we’re trying to second-guess which of the two Citizens’ strikers will be given the nod by Pep Guardiola and how long they’ll last in any given game.

Jesus had a free run after Aguero’s recent injury, delivering seven attacking returns and starting eight games in a row in the run-in.

Any period of absence for one of the two makes the other a far more attractive option in FPL; otherwise, it’s the usual high-risk, high-reward game in trying to anticipate Guardiola’s starting XI every Gameweek and benefit from the goals that usually follow.

ANTHONY MARTIAL AND RICHARLISON

Two of the new additions to the forward pool have been reclassified by FPL after spending 2019/20 as Fantasy midfielders.

Anthony Martial (£9.0m) and Richarlison (£8.0m) were both deployed centrally by their managers last season, with the former leading the line in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 4-2-3-1 and the latter striking up a partnership with Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.0m) on Merseyside.

Martial averaged 6.2 points per match as an FPL midfielder in 2019/20 and the Frenchman would still have beaten most of the other forwards in this piece even if his positional reclassification had come a year ago:

Player2019/20 Points Per Match
Vardy6.0
Martial (had he been a forward)5.5
Aguero5.5
Kane5.4
Ings5.2
Jimenez5.1
Richarlison (had he been a forward)4.3
Jesus4.3
Firmino4.1
Lacazette3.9

2019/20 was by some distance Martial’s best-ever FPL season, with the 24-year-old striker racking up 17 goals, nine assists and 200 points and finishing a clear fifth among FPL midfielders in the overall points table.

The arrival of Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) and later return to fitness of Marcus Rashford (£9.5m) and Paul Pogba (£8.0m) seemed to invigorate him, with 15 of his 26 attacking returns coming in the final 13 Gameweeks.

Martial averaged 8.0 FPL points per match over this period, which bodes well for a full season with his aforementioned teammates in an exciting Red Devils attack.

Having previously had something of a reputation as being injury-prone, he also became a reliable starter after an early-season spell on the sidelines, missing only one of United’s final 29 league matches.

Richarlison hit 13 goals for the second season in a row, meanwhile, and it seldom seems to matter in which position he plays (out wide or through the middle) or under which manager (he averaged 4.8 points as an FPL midfielder under Marco Silva and 4.6 under Ancelotti).

One slight cause for concern is over Everton’s ability to carve out opportunities of real quality for him, with the Brazilian’s rate of big chances per 90 minutes the worst of the 11 strikers in this piece.

Both players will also be worse off as FPL forwards thanks to the loss of the extra clean sheet and goal points (any boost on the Bonus Points System only partly offsetting that), while Martial and United blank in Gameweek 1.

Everton and the Reds sit first and third in our Season Ticker from Gameweeks 2-11, though, so the pair will soon be on the FPL radar if they are not already.

ROBERTO FIRMINO AND ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE

We have grouped together these two strikers as they are arguably the two least-appealing picks in the premium bracket, at least based on what we saw in 2019/20.

A bit like Luka Modric, Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) will probably go down in Fantasy history as someone whose invaluable on-field performances weren’t adequately represented by FPL returns.

A huge asset off the ball and an intelligent link-up player, he has averaged only 11.4 Premier League goals per season in his five years at Anfield, less than half of what Mohamed Salah (£12.0m) has averaged since his return to England.

Firmino’s underlying stats were actually pretty decent in 2019/20 – he bettered Sadio Mane (£12.0m) for shots in the box, for example – but he hasn’t been clinical since joining the Reds in 2015, with his goal conversion rate never above 20% (which is a decent barometer) in that time.

Alexandre Lacazette (£8.5m) is usually a tad more reliable when facing the whites of the goalkeepers’ eyes but, unlike Firmino, he doesn’t seem to be a trustworthy starter.

The Frenchman was benched in six of the 20 league matches that Mikel Arteta oversaw since his appointment in December, with Eddie Nketiah (£6.0m) playing an increasingly prominent role.

Even when he has started, Lacazette has not posed too much of a goal threat himself: only five goals have arrived in his 19 appearances under Arteta, a reflection of the almost Firmino-esque deep-dropping role he has been tasked with.

Speculation grows about his future in north London, too, so we won’t dwell any further on his credentials for the time being.

HARRY KANE

Tottenham Hotspur sit top of our Season Ticker in the opening eight Gameweeks, with Jose Mourinho’s troops facing six clubs who finished 10th or below last season and newly promoted West Bromwich Albion.

Mourinho’s ‘second season’ is traditionally his best and, after some Jekyll-and-Hyde displays in the campaign just gone, there were signs of some improvement towards the end of 2019/20.

Harry Kane (£10.5m) plundered seven goals in the Lilywhites’ final eight games, while no FPL forward registered more ‘big chances’ than the England international after lockdown ended.

A comparison with Son Heung-min (£9.0m) from Gameweek 30+ onwards also ended in Kane’s favour, although there had been ongoing concerns about the forward’s waning FPL powers before that point.

One downside to Spurs assets is that they are in UEFA Europa League qualifying action either side of their Gameweek 1-4 fixtures, which will likely mean a Thursday-Sunday turnaround for their opening matches.

Kane looks a fairly secure pick regardless, as he has yet to face bench duty under Mourinho in the Premier League.

JAMIE VARDY

The Golden Boot winner and the highest-scoring Fantasy forward of 2019/20, Jamie Vardy (£10.0m) plundered 30 attacking returns and 34 bonus points in the season just gone.

His overall score of 210 points was made all the more noteworthy considering that there were nine blanks and three no-shows from Gameweeks 19 to 32+, with a loss of fitness and form plaguing the second half of the campaign.

Most of the damage was done in the first half of the season.

From Gameweeks 3 to 18, Vardy found the back of the net on 17 occasions and set up a further five goals – a purple patch that conjured up memories of Luis Suarez’s astonishing 2013/14 campaign.

The long-serving striker averaged 8.6 points per match over this run of games, delivering six double-digit hauls and blanking on just three occasions.

A whopping 24 of his 30 attacking returns came against clubs ranked tenth or below, which made him a relatively safe bet for the captaincy in plum fixtures.

It’s also a relevant stat considering who Leicester City have to play in the opening five Gameweeks of 2020/21, with West Bromwich Albion, Burnley, West Ham and Aston Villa all facing Brendan Rodgers’ troops.

DANNY INGS

Danny Ings (£8.5m) more than doubled his Premier League goals tally in one fell swoop in 2019/20, finding the back of the net on 22 occasions.

There were only three double-digit hauls over the course of the season but his consistency of returns more than made up for it, along with a league-best bonus points tally of 40.

Even accounting for his substantial price rise, no other forward provided better value based on FPL’s points-per-million metric (last season’s points divided by next season’s prices) in 2019/20.

And even levelling the playing field to take the differing amounts of game-time out of the equation (last season’s points per match divided by next season’s prices), Ings also comes out in a positive light:

Player2019/20 Points Per Match / 2020/21 Prices
Vardy0.60
Martial (had he been a forward)0.61
Aguero0.52
Kane0.51
Ings0.61
Jimenez0.60
Richarlison (had he been a forward)0.54
Jesus0.45
Firmino0.43
Lacazette0.46

The upcoming fixtures look decent, with Saints facing six sides who either came up from the Championship or finished 10th or below in the top flight between now and Gameweek 8.

And there is a possibility that Ings may have more of a say at spot-kick situations now, too, having taken two in July in his pursuit of the Golden Boot and again tasked with the responsibility from 12 yards in a recent pre-season game.

RAUL JIMENEZ

What's the best strategy for choosing forwards in FPL? 8

Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) is available for the same price as Ings in the upcoming campaign.

The Mexican, a bit like the Saints striker, wasn’t too explosive last season, registering just three double-digit hauls – two of them against Manchester City – over the entirety of 2019/20.

But the points arrived on a regular basis, with his 24 attacking returns coming in 21 different games.

From Gameweeks 8 to 19, he blanked only twice.

Rotation was rarely a worry and no FPL forward started more games or played more minutes than Jimenez last season.

The Mexican started 37 of Wolves’ 38 Premier League fixtures, only being benched in Gameweek 20 when Nuno Espirito Santo’s side faced two matches in the space of 48 hours.

Wolves kick the season off with an off-putting double-header against Sheffield United and Manchester City, two clubs who finished in the top four for fewest goals conceded in 2019/20, although Pep Guardiola’s side were beaten home and away by Santo’s troops last season.

Beyond that, the picture is rosier, as clashes with newly promoted Fulham and Leeds United are sandwiched by matches against West Ham United, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

Another tick against Wolves’ name is that they won’t be involved in European club competition this season, so they won’t be afflicted by the Thursday-Sunday turnaround that plagued them in 2019/20 and led to some early-season rotation from Nuno Espirito Santo.

TIMO WERNER

Werner scores on Chelsea debut as Ziyech sustains knee injury

The final entry in this article is an unknown quantity in terms of FPL but his track record in Germany (28 goals in 34 matches last season) has seen him quickly become the most-owned forward in the game.

Timo Werner (£9.5m) sits in over 40% of Fantasy Premier League squads at the time of writing, with only Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) more popular.

Chelsea’s opening fixtures are appealing, with seven clubs who finished ninth or below last season (we include newly promoted West Brom among that contingent) awaiting the Blues in Gameweeks 1-9.

How best to tap into Frank Lampard’s promising attack is the big question.

Chelsea were third for ‘big chances’ created last season but only four clubs converted a smaller percentage of their clear-cut opportunities.

Can Werner be the man to turn those chances into goals?

A healthy conversion rate of 22.7% in the 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign suggests it’s possible, with his big chance conversion rate of 46.2% considerable better than that of Tammy Abraham (£7.5m and 28.1%).

There is also the possibility of him being on penalties, with Willian (£8.0m) now departed and Jorginho (£5.0m) out of favour; Werner has converted 13 of his 16 career spot-kicks.

You can read much more on Werner in our stand-alone Scout Report here.

Johnstone anyone? Has pretty solid opening fixtures until GW8, and could be great in a rotating pair with McCarthy.

I don’t like goalie rotation strategy tbf.
      Hard to get it right.
Less headache is set and forget approach.

Not a fan of rotating GKs, and Southampton were actually better away last season than they were at home. Either of those two would be a decent set-and-forget option though. Prefer McCarthy myself, although saw a lot of Johnstone when he was at Villa, and he was very good.

      I love Saka as a talent , love .
But I’m happy to see him in teams . Arsenal have the personal to rotate him. Let’s be clear arsenal have been great on tv in their last 3 games and if he was starting every week it would be him.
I think I might look at Traore’s ownership I actually would point out he being the *best
But he’s not the flavour of the week
ASM was last week , Saka this .
      Soucek is the cheaper
All good options the best is the most expensive in Traore

I think this is the toughest ever start to the season with two top4 teams blanking, major reclassification, the price gap between strikers and mids widening (and throwing into doubt the value of some top performers), covid question marks all over the shop, major restructuring at Chelsea etc

This is going to be a turbulent few weeks. The term casual is rightly maligned but let's use it for ease of communication:

Who is going to be the big season opening games winners in these turbulant times? Radical thinkers? people who play it safe and select based on reliability and knowns? Is there a 'strategy' that could supercede painstaking selecting your perfect 11?

My solution is to bench Bruno in GW1. I know a lot of people don't like it, but this is the best answer I could come up with because I value my transfers above all with such a turbulent start and I really want to be able to roll a transfer in GW2 and then have 2 FTs in GW3 to reevaluate and do a mini WC if I have to.

Okay... Think about it this way.

Transfers have an opportunity cost. This means that when you choose to do one transfer you're also choosing not to make a transfer elsewhere. Early on in a season, every transfer is valuable because there's a lot of uncertainty over who the form players/teams are.

If you lock yourself into a Son > Bruno switch in GW2, it might be free, but you're also giving up the potential to roll a FT for GW3. You're giving up the potential to fix another problem that might come up like an injury. There are no such things as FTs. They all cost 4 points.

So then you evaluate like this:

            Son VS 4.5m defender + 4 points.

I would much rather have the latter than the former with this much uncertainty. There's a reason that players don't take -8s every week. Of course if you knew somehow who would deliver the most points every week, the best way to play is actually to take like a -20 every week and just get the team of the week players. But there's a reason it's not a profitable playstyle and that's because it's very hard to know who is going to haul in any specific week. In fact, the odds are mostly against you. So the safer and best way to play is to pick the team you want from the start. Maximize your budget and not have any forced transfers in GW2 planned. The most flexible way is to roll a FT and then in GW3 you can do 2FTs or even 3 as a mini wildcard.

But key thing is to identify who you think are the best scorers over the next few weeks. I think Bruno is superior to Salah at 10.5m vs 12m hence why I prioritized him and decided to bench him. But some might disagree and that's fine. They can start with Salah. But I think the best way is still to just commit and put all your money down with the aim to roll a FT in 2 and then go from there.

That's not true at all. Son is a striker. He is expected to score in games such as these. A son goal in GW1 changes nothing

If Son scores in GW1, do you still do the Bruno transfer? Son has sou NEW in the next two games..

To not do it would be floating 1.5m as well. In the end, you lose no matter what by floating the Bruno cash. If you think Son will score and Bruno is your priority in GW2, get both Son and Bruno.

My team structure/budget can't afford it.
What if I want Martial instead of Bruno? What if I want to sell Werner not Son?
I have open way to get any of MU attacker, don't want to make my call now and be my own enemy.
I build a team that I think(hope) to be best one for GW1 with open options for future games.

Fair enough. Your argument is that you prefer Salah over Bruno because he starts in GW1 and you want to wait and see. That's totally fair.

But I think Bruno is worth breaking the rules for with CPL in GW2 and think he's a bigger priority. And by the looks of things, a lot of people seem to think Bruno is a priority too considering how many people have plans already to bring him in GW2.

Again, it boils down to priorities. I want Bruno and 1.5m to improve the rest of my team more than Salah.

I think Bruno is worth 11.5/12.0 mil so at 10.5 he is great option. My thinking is to have Salah, Bruno and KDB at some point (rather sooner than later) but will wait and see.

I see your point that they're not free, and also it limits your ability to make another transfer elsewhere in your team. I guess I've seen then as expendale options.

I already decided this year to try to keep 2FT's at all times, if possible. I think this is based on allowing players to play, rather than making a knee jerk reaction to transfer.

              Thanks for your thoughts

Whichever players are in my team

We won't really know until like 5 GWs have passed, but one of the issues in FPL is people talking about strategies and then the community never really follows up on how they did and what we can learn from them. For example for the Project Restart matches, there was a lot of discussion on when to use FH, WC but after the season ended few players looked back and thought 'what went wrong, and what went right'?

Personally looking back I realized the importance of fixture difficulty and that I need more than one week to properly plan a WC. Triple United, triple City attack would have given anyone a major boost in rank due to the simple fixtures and dangerous attacking sides. Judging players on one week isn't enough for me personally.

Personally I've gone far away from the template, judging the generous pricing of forwards and premium prices of midfielders an unmissable opportunity, especially looking at fixtures. It will be very interesting to look back a few gameweeks on and it will only help me grow as a FPL player.

We do seem to be of similar mind. With this year's pricing, FPL Towers have lured the masses into a trap by raising the prices of premium midfielders, with most not taking account of the lower pricing of the premium strikers.

So I, like you, am starting off with 1 premium midfielder and 3 strikers. It's a short-term ploy as I gauge which mids and strikers are worth having for the long haul. I may well make 3 2FTs in the first 6 weeks to restructure, but by starting this way, I keep plenty of options open to see how things develop.

Yes it's a good observation that there is an almost complete lack of any meaningful analysis on strategy. It is why I've always ignored the concensus on major questions such as wildcarding and team structure. These are very difficult things to analyse to be fair, but they do result in a lot of advice that's based on next to nothing

I am starting aggressively this season. GW1 BB and then WC GW 2 to get 5 Manchester players. Not sure if I will rue the decisions but feel I need to do something different this year to push on.

I don't the fixtures support this strategy. City have tough fixtures, United too don't have a stroll in the park. If they had runs like they did at the end of last season it could work, but they don't. And one of the surest things I've seen to make managers fail is try to replicate winning strategies from last season. It doesn't work like that.

Opposite for me - I'm starting a bit cautiously, not intending to have my optimum squad until GW5.

Transfers, internationals, late starts, injured players, newbies settling in, preferred first XI line-ups - all these will take a little while to be fully clear.

Mean to play around with this scenario

Had early BB/WC on the cards if there was a DGW but less keen now.

Two dangers I see. 1 You’re using BB on the lowest budget you’ll have all season. 2 Lots will be on triple United with at most a minus 4 and the City fixture in 2 is ho hum

Comes down to how strong a bench you can put together. Tricky

There will be a couple of players who kick off in a massive way

Those with plans for Utd and city will likely continue with those plans

Those who just transfer in the goal scorers will probably win out

And the community will condemn The casuals for their jammy luck

For me I've decided two things. More patience, more aggression. I'm holding off from City till at least gw3/4. holding greenwood from the start. Rolling transfers and upside chasing is what i would like to have a go at. My first big decision is to go Son over Salah so i can have robbo/trent right from the off and look to keep them throughout/long as possible.

Im not making any specific plan. Its impossible as anything may happen in GW1.
How can people plan who will they buy/sell without knowing GW1 results?
Im just trying to be flexible and have few routes for diferent scenarios but defo cant plan anything specific. For example maybe I may need to WC in GW3 or maybe can hold it till GW16. Simply dont know so cant say when it will happen.

I agree. Which is why I don't understand why we don't agree with the argument above.

I guess it comes down to who do you want more: Salah, Son, Bruno? Pick two. I've picked Son and Bruno...

          Sure.Agree.
But about picking premiums - Im not saying I dont want Bruno. I dont need to say who I want now. We have transfer. Maybe will start with no Bruno but than will buy him in GW3 and will keep till GW 38.
Its imply a fact that Bruno will defo score 0pts GW1 I try to max. my returns in first GW plus will have time and some data who I want sell (Son, Werner etc) and buy (Bruno, Martial or Greenwood)

I think my strategy is going to be to play it safe and to not concern myself with trying to predict too much early in this year.

I am going to ignore the Werner's, the players with any question marks over them at all, the inviting 4.5s that may or may not get dropped or replaced. I'm going to start with a team that I think will require zero forced adjustments, bench the player/s I want for week two and treat the transfers and chips like gold dust.

Not exciting, not radical, just stay there or thereabouts and don't walk myself into any foreseeable headaches early on

Personally building a side based on the first 5 or 6 fixtures with known quantities. Boring but seems like a sensible way forward given how long the transfer window runs and blanks, etc.

Well, its template which is pretty much ok.
I wouldn’t call different approaches necessarily improvements but several different patterns emerged here so far.
You have chosen one template version with 1.5 itb to upgrade Son.
Some having Bruno on the bench
(I think that’s worst version of template)
Personally I’ve opted to do Salah to Bruno for GW2 and invest money in the rest of the team - which is third version of template.
There are also sub-versions of the template - like double Liverpool defence (not fan at all)...stronger forward line etc...
No one can tell you at this point which will work better.
          Just bet on one.

If Justin and Vin are good for more than the first 2/3 it’s a runner - danger though of suboptimal budget defence switches

1.5 to get Bruno from Son I assume. Personally prefer downgrade of a 12.0 right now.

If you do those transfers, (assuming Salah -> Fernandes) you'd have £3.5m in the bank. Probably better to invest the £1.5m in to the team now in my opninion.

For example downgrading Doherty to Dier/Davies gives you Ings which I'd say is a massive upgrade over Mitro.

This is true, but then again the early price-riser gets there first because it is the obvious choice. If you have 4 or 5 players that we are all keen to buy then this would potentially slow down the first riser quite considerably.

Son is notionally at a better price point especially if you carry an extra FT - loads of options around there in mid and attack

Kane is valuable in himself but he does allow Kun - the man who is never mentioned - and Vardy.

Undecided right now but edging towards Kane - downgrades are easier than upgrades and he allows the full range of forward options

Kane for me, still a v gd price point and much better stats than Son, assuming the latter plays out wide. Alli interests me greatly too though. That said, Son is still a decent option. I'd look ahead for the 6 weeks and see who you would captain each week. If Kane isn't an option for you, then pick Alli or Son.

Liverpool are really short of cover up front if someone goes down - Minamino and Origi and that’s it if you exclude Brewster.

Origi has had his moments but it’d feel odd if he was so much further up the pecking order than Bats at Chelsea. He and Minamino effectively cover 3 positions between them.

Yes it probably makes sense for them to retain him. Even if he goes above Origi in the pecking order though, he's still a non starter as an FPL asset given how little they rotate.

Add in Firmino playing Internationals for Brazil and you need even more cover than normal

Thoughts on the TAA/Robbo double up?

      Same dilemma (i thnk)
I have them both, but seems alot of money when i could downgrade Robbo to Doc and gives me a mill

Not sure. On one hand it’s a lot of money but robbo could out score a fair few mids so it’s definitely worth looking into but it’s a big risk and money if Liverpool concede and robbo doesn’t return. I’m going with just TAA myself

my current draft has both. Not much value in having Trent alone as everyone will have him. which is obviously fine (many of my drafts have this). advantage of having both is clear though. you have the best 2 fb's in the league that will outscore most mids. Doherty im not interested in now hes at Spurs.

I'll have the double up @GW10 onwards but I don't like their early fixtures enough to not be getting better odds on clean sheets. TAA only to start for me.

I'm not swayed by a half-fit side in the Commy Shield. I'm still doubling up - TAA and VVD in my case. If they're a damp squib they're easy transfers to any defenders who are showing.

Is this VDB much of a threat to Greenwood gametime? Think VDB or Bruno could play out wide?

Possibly, but only if United switch systems.

I still think he has been signed to cover Bruno and Pogba, but he's too good to sit on the bench. That means he should start ahead of Matic (he's played CDM before, and has the legs and tenacity to play there).

He has filled in there for Ajax sometimes. He's not going to displace Pogba as CM or Bruno as no.10. And he won't sit on the bench either.

With Fred being linked away and Matic not having the legs, i can see him playing CDM until Pogba leaves. In which case he will then become the no.6 for United.

First draft I've posted on here. Playing the fixtures. Allows a lot of flexibility, but obvs no Liv attack, no Man U. Too cavalier?

    McCarthy
    TAA Davies KWP Vinagre
    Auba Son Souchek
    Vardy Werner Ings

    4.0 Saka Bissouma Laporte

    Auba to KDB GW3.

Currently looking at a fixed heavy front row of Ings, Jimi & Werner for the season. Reckon they should provide consistent descent points, whilst my midfield can be flexible.
Best 3 for the job, or should I swap 1 for Martial??

    1. Andy_Social
      • 11 Years

Jimi and Ings have a good chance of continuing to churn out reliable points. Werner is unknown. If it's continuity you want Martial for him makes more sense. But then again there's Vardy who does it year in year out too.

Wolves without Doherty may regress in attack. They are hardly prolific as it is. Jimi only had 2 double digit hauls last season. I'd go Ings, Werner + Mitro tbh.

Martial is also really consistent when you look at games actually played. His flakey reputation as a returner is really just down to injury absences - not unlike Ings last time

Thinking Jim as my long term hold up front but could switch to Martial when in funds and if Greenwood looks moveable

Agreed, when it comes to FPL returns Martial is very consistent. His in-game performances can differ, goes so invisible Ozil would be jealous but we don't care about that here

I'd bet good money your front three won't stay the same all season. Don't understand the logic, unless it's a set and forget team. You'll need to play the form and fixtures.

How badly does no Doh affect Wolves attack - thinking Jim mostly here. He was the second name on my team sheet as a long haul hold. Now less sure

From memory Doh wasn’t much of a provider. But if you subtract him does that make Jim worse anyway if his forages forward simply created more chaos for Jim to feed off?

Wondering whether no Doh might just add to Traore minutes and again from memory Traore Jim was a fairly regular combination. Could that make Traore a fair punt from GW3 say?

    Thoughts

      Yes
      And yes
Traore just isn’t flavour of the week yet because wolves haven’t played any friendlies
He’s also at 6.5 a wary price for some .
Jimenez is better when he’s playing

    2. Well you know, Triffic

See above. Jimi is just too expensive for someone that only had 2 double digit hauls last season. Ings and Werner are explosive.

Pretty sure Jimi had three double digit hauls, as did Ings. So little between them, although I agree Ings seems to give the impression he could score 2 or 3 a game, more so than Jimi.

Long term he’s fantastic - that’s why you get him in. Cheapish value adds another captain option elsewhere.

Take a look at value charts. Still best in class if he holds form 🙂

I think someone like Mitrovic will score similar points, and the 2.5m saved can be used to upgrade a mid into a premium player.
