Pro Pundits - Tom

Who has created the most chances in FPL and why Solly March can be a budget gem

In his latest column, five-time top 1k finisher Tom Freeman discusses the players creating the most chances so far in 2020/21, a new Leicester City asset for the watchlist, Stuart Dallas and a Brighton differential.

Gameweek 3 has drawn to a close, and all in all, it’s been a pretty good one for me.

A total of 52 points has seen my overall rank rise to 453,222, and though it’s still early days, it’s been a positive start.

Mohamed Salah (£12.1m) led the way with 10 captain points but there were also returns for Alex McCarthy (£4.5m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m), Luke Ayling (£4.5m), Tomas Soucek (£5.0m) and Patrick Bamford (£5.8m), who has started well and exceeded expectations.

So, in this my latest article as part of the Pro Pundits initiative, I thought I’d touch upon a few things that have piqued my interest over the last few weeks.

I tend to make a lot of notes on a day-to-day basis and I suppose this is me downloading some of that information. If one or two of you can take something away from it, it’ll be worth it.

The Creators

Knowing the identity of each club’s most creative player, whether or not it’s from open play or set pieces, is something I like to keep note of. After just three Gameweeks, we’re still working with a small sample size and waiting for statistics to settle down, but in an attempt to pick up on any early trends, I thought I’d share it.

I never really did trust Werner (or have him), but the drop in creativity at S'oton is a bit of a worry. Chelsea has better fixtures and somehow creates more than S'oton

Werner to Ings could work this week, but I'm not sure beyond that. And hits really should be mid to long term, except for explosive captains

Ings is a monster at finishing. He scores with so few chances everytime and he blew past his expected goals last season. He's one of the most clinical finishers in the game right now.

Absolutely. Same can be said of Auba

All I'm saying is that his chances, although previously low/average, seem to have dropped even lower. I hope it's just a blip though

Wonder why. It's basically the same team as last season. Maybe they set up more defensively after the showing at tottenham

They miss Redmond, there was an analysis last season showing that without him Southampton is creating much less and not so much space for Ings to operate as Redmond's presence and speed is absorbing defenders.

What do you think of KDB-Mahrez-Foden combo for 2-3 weeks? Thinking of Son to Mahrez, then maybe back to Son or anyone in form in 2-3 weeks time. Rather dull to play Lamptey vs Everton when Mahrez is playing Leeds!?

You really need Man City to start smashing some teams for it to work.

I'm not sure about this Leeds game coming up and then the Arsenal game immediately after. I think two is the limit I would go towards as long as they lack a CF.

Looks like Mourinho is putting pressure on selections to preserve players, so first reaction was that it would be very hard for Mou to play Son on the Week-end and declare him as unfit for the two Korea-Republik qualifiers on the international breka

Until I realize, the two qualifiers of Korea have been postponned..

    so..

This is false. All the reporting from those to the club is that he's seen as first choice, and centre back is not where Pep's rotation lands.

I agree he's great value once settled.

Probably 90% for each one. I don't like going above that for any player.

I don't think City have a choice but play Foden. I think Saiss is nailed while Marcal and Jonny are out. And I think too much is being made of James' defensive error during the corner - he was a chance creating machine in that game, and Azpi is still starting the less important EFL Cup games.

Biggest issue now is whether to keep Werner or sell for Jimi.

I need to sell Norwood, and already did Martial to Ings so in order of importance Norwood has to go first.

That then means Werner to Jimi is an 8 pointer. Jimi could haul big style against the Ruperts, but might Werner start scoring now that he's got his first goal out of the way?

    1. King Kun Ta

Not too keen on Werner yet. Plays pretty wide as well. Maybe Ziyech will feed him with good crosses.

Can't believe I'm the one speaking against hits twice on the same FFS page, but here I am, again... Saying no to hits

Heck, even Martial to Ings wasn't exactly necessary. Norwood should be dealt with first. Handle anything that isn't for a captaincy candidate with your next FT

That Southampton match up with the high line and all that pace.

Less of an investment but keeping Havertz here.

They didn't play a high line last season at Stamford Bridge though so not sure if they will this time.

Keep. If it was for free you could argue it, but for a hit its crazy. Werner's next two are decent and Chelsea have to win them or Lamps is under pressure.

Yeah, leaning toward Norwood out and Werner staying for now.

Martial was a rage transfer but I don't regret it. Norwood simply has to go. There is no debate about that one.

Not enough money to do Digne & Martial -> Robbo & Vardy....

    A Digne -> Robbo (FT)
    B Martial -> Vardy (FT)
    C Digne & Martial -> Robbo & Jimi (-4 already have Saiss & Podence)

    Ta for the advice!

Guys can you help me out please?

    This is what I've got:

    Ryan, Button
    TAA, Justin, Dallas, Dunne, Ferguson
    Salah, Sterling, Son, JRod, Zaha
    Jimenez, Mitrović, Wickham

Would you do Son and Wickham to Barnes and DCL for -8? If not, what should I do? Maybe Wickham for Callum Robinson?

Is Davies >> Reece James a good or bad move here. Thinking of keeping Werner a few more weeks. Other option is to save the FT.

    McCarthy
    TAA, Saiss, Justin, Davies
    Salah, KDB, Rodríguez, Zaha
    Werner, Ings
    (Nyland, Bissouma, Mitchell, Davis)

I'd go Davies to a 4.5 to free up money for later. Charlie Taylor or KWP

Don’t fancy KWP with Mc in goal. Lamptey might be decent. Doesn’t free up a lot of money though and could just be a waste of a transfer right now. Hmm

If Podence is fit, which one do I bench:

    1 Podence (Ful)
    2 Saiss(Ful)
    3 James (Cry)
    4 Justin (WHU)

    All are playing at home

I'd bench Justin, as West Ham do create chances and have Antonio, Bowen and Soucek in form.

I captained Bruno last week and it worked. There will be a lot of tears if Werner scores and this game will apparently all be down to luck or jam if he scores.

FPL H2H draft, I've been offered Reece James and Pogba for for my Saiss and Pepe? I like Saiss and Wolves fixtures, but Pogba might be a bit better than Pepe.

What do you folks reckon? I might struggle to get Wolves coverage back unless I'm lucky with Samedo on the waivers or get Marcel/Vinagre in

maybe Zaha. Barnes gets in a lot of good positions but has awful end product. Maddison flatters to deceive in my opinion.
