Pro Pundits

Former FPL winner’s Wildcard team for FPL Gameweek 9

With injuries making my Fantasy Premier League team resemble the condiment options at a hotdog van, this international break seemed like an ideal opportunity to finally play my Wildcard.

I am currently sitting at about 500k with 482 points, which is okay (I guess) for this stage of the season but, naturally, I am looking to improve on that. Thus far, it is my captaincy picks that have let me down the most with only 84 points in total coming from the armband and four blanks from eight.

I know that there are a few managers with much better captaincy scores than me who are ranked lower which, to me, suggests that the overall strategy is working okay, I just need to be a bit smarter or a bit luckier in that area.

With that in mind, while I am Wildcarding, I’ll be aiming to stick to my core principles this season of maintaining a reasonably balanced spread of funds across the squad, not going too heavy on any particular team and trying to select players who can score in multiple ways.

I will outline my decision-making process for each position before revealing the final squad at the end…

How does this WC look? I’m leaving 3.5m itb to upgrade a mf to Salah when he’s back.

    Martinez
    Cancelo Coufal Chilwell
    Fernandes(C) Jota Grealish Ziyech KDB
    Watkins DCL

    Fodder Justin Kilman Brewster

Week after can get salah back in by doing Son to Salah (or Grealish if Salah isn't fit still), Kane to Vardy, and DCL to maybe Bamford/Watkins.

What's the latest news of Rashford? If he's likely to play > A otherwise C and you are in a good place for GW9-10

Cheers MZ! Yeah not sure what the latest is on Rashford, I guess we’ll likely hear about him tomorrow. If he’a not fit then I could possibly just do option C, if he is then option A like ya say.
This will be for yet another hit on top of the one ones I’ve already taken this week but in isolation they’re good ones.

Why would he miss GW10 if he's tested negative on the weekend and can train all of next week ?

It seems that he will get tested again Monday. If positive, he will stay there. If negative, he could go to back to UK. Question is whether he needs to quarantine. If he's proven to be in the bubble since his first positive test, he may be exempted. That's where things are unclear/uncertain to me.

This is news to me, info moves quickly. If this is true then the next test could be sooner than Monday and what happens if that's negative: quarantine or back training, that's the next question.

Yeah, I dont know if he will have to quarantine but my guess is that if they somehow managed to get him on the plane and he can enter UK then he should be allowed to play Brighton

Justin might be back on the bench soon. Monitor Ferguson. He claimed on twitter to be fit again. If he is to reclaim starts from Clyne, he could be the one. Plus, he's very close to drop to 3,9. Worst case scenario, you'll have non-playing 3,9 for non-playing 4,8 (4,6 selling price, I assume).

Worth doing TAA -> another defender for a hit? Or just wait? I risk having no playing bench if Wilson or Taylor don’t start...

Would get rid for the hit.

Wow, I only just realised that Fernandinho was reclassified as a defender this FPL season!

Currently on wildcard and defence is
    Zouma Justin Coufal Lamptey Kilman.
Thoughts on this and is there better options for similar prices?

It's fine, i just reckon Chillwell is a must for any defensive line right now.

Chilwell has some back-issues. I'm going Zouma to be safe.

Chilwell was on the bench for England and didn't play (got a rest, depending on how you look at it), but was named in the squad so you'd imagine he's okay.

        Why?

They have City, Leicester, Spurs, Everton, Arsenal in their next 10, plus and Leeds and Villa both scoring. And Wolves and WHU not bad teams either.

      Coufal and Lewis rotate nicely.

Justin is a rotation risk now Pereira and Castagne are training with squad. Kilman’s games aren’t great any more. Nor are Chelsea’s really but everyone loves them.

I’d go Dias/Cancelo over Zouma, consider C Taylor, PVA.

It will pay of long-term and leaves you with flexibility for other moves, but wouldn't do it if you can for free next gw

Yes, it will pay itself off very quickly. Grealish is a season keeper.
