This afternoon, we’re rolling out the final article in our End of Season awards. With Clint Dempsey taking top spot for the midfielders, we now turn our attentions to the forward options. Once again, you’ll find the poll in the middle of the main page, just underneath the Captain Poll for Gameweek 38:

As always, bear in mind that the vote is from an overall Fantasy perspective – total points, price, performances and FPL value should all come into consideration here.

Also be aware that each person is entitled to vote for two forwards here..

Robin Van Persie
The Gunners skipper was slow out the starting blocks, with just a single goal in the first five matches, but then exploded into form from Gameweek 6 onwards. Van Persie set the tone for what was to follow by racking up six double figure hauls in the following eight Gameweeks and proved to be the most reliable armband option available to Fantasy owners. Such was his consistency that Van Persie only twice went more than one Gameweek without scoring or assisting, with each drought lasting only two games.

An injury-free campaign saw him start 37 of Arsenal’s fixtures – even in that one game where he began as a sub, the Dutchman still had time to climb off the bench and grab a double against Stoke in just 25 minutes at the Emirates. Leading the way for goals and bonus points, with 30 and 45 respectively, and, with 13 assists and a total of 12 double figure hauls also accrued, Van Persie’s incredible total of 269 FPL points was head and shoulders above any other player in the 2011/12 campaign.

Wayne Rooney
Unlike Van Persie, the United man hit the ground running, grabbing nine goals in the first five matches, including a three-goal, two assist haul against Arsenal which harvested 22 points in Gameweek 3. Rooney then hit the brakes, producing just two assists in the next nine Gameweeks but rediscovered his consistency as the season picked up pace, producing attacking returns in all but three of his appearances from Gameweek 24 onwards.

A personal best 27 goals was supplemented by eight assists and 35 bonus points – Rooney also returned double figures on eight occasions and proved a viable alternative to Van Persie for the captain’s armband as United racked up the goals. In the end, he was – like his team – somewhat overshadowed, with Van Persie simply irresistible but with 230 points accrued, Rooney still managed to produce his most impressive Fantasy season to date as the title race went to the wire.

Sergio Aguero
The summer signing from Atletico Madrid couldn’t have asked for a better start to his first season at the Etihad. Aguero’s debut saw him climb off the bench against Swansea in Gameweek 1 and, in just 32 minutes, announce his arrival as a Fantasy force in sensational style, with a brace and assist in the 4-0 win handing his Fantasy owners a 15 point haul.

While his home form harvested 16 goals and six double figure returns, Aguero struggled for much of the season on the road – after scoring in the 6-1 win at Old Trafford in Gameweek 9, he picked up just a single assist in ten away appearances, deterring many from investing in his services. The installation of Carlos Tevez has alleviated that problem, with Aguero grabbing attacking returns in all three away fixtures the pair have started together up front. With the title-clinching winner against QPR taking his total to 23 goals, nine assists and 30 bonus points, Aguero’s debut campaign saw him finish third on the overall FPL rankings, with a score of 211 points.

Emmanuel Adebayor
Starting the season priced at 8.0, Adebayor’s prospects looked bleak. Frozen out by City, he had played just 244 minutes and scored a single goal in the previous campaign but Harry Redknapp’s decision to take him on loan to the Lane proved ideal for Spurs fans and Fantasy managers alike.

There’s no denying he can be a frustrating Fantasy asset, though Adebayor has shown it’s worth keeping faith in his abilities. His season is perhaps summed up by a run from Gameweek 19-24 which produced not a goal or assist, only to be followed by a 21 point haul against Newcastle, with a goal and four assists against the Magpies. With spot-kick duties also in the bag, he finished the campaign with 17 goals and 12 assists, playing a part in more goals than any of his team mates, and finished on 194 points – only one behind Gareth Bale for Redknapp’s outfit.

Papiss Cisse
Arriving at Newcastle in the January transfer window, Cisse’s installation to Alan Pardew’s first XI saw a change of fortunes for Demba Ba. The latter had been superb in the first half of the season but was shifted wide left to accommodate his compatriot as the Magpies moved to a 4-3-3; while the former West Ham man suffered as a Fantasy asset, Cisse’s ability to find the net from all angles saw him soar in ownership.

An incredible return of 13 goals in just 14 appearances, with a couple of assists also thrown in, made a mockery of his 7.0 starting price in FPL. Cisse hit full stride in a six-match spell between Gameweeks 29-35, grabbing nine goals and returning maximum bonus in all but one of those appearances. With Ba failing to find the net in any of the games they started together, the move from one Newcastle man to the other was an obvious one, and with Cisse returning a total of 20 bonus points, he ended the season with an average of 7.5 points per game – the highest of any player over the 2011/12 campaign.

Nikica Jelavic
Similar to Cisse, his January introduction allowed Fantasy managers a chance to shake up their forward lines in the second half of the season. Jelavic’s scoring record in Scotland with Glasgow Rangers was superb and he took little time to acclimatise to the rigours of the Premier League.

With the Croatian leading the line, Everton looked an altogether different prospect, with their creative endeavours finally being rewarded by the clinical finishing of the 6.5 priced forward. Netting nine times in just 10 starts, including three back-to-back braces between Gameweek 32-36, he helped the Toffees finish the season on a nine-match unbeaten run and, with 11 bonus points also accrued, averaged 6.6 points per start for David Moyes’ outfit.

Yakubu
Blackburn’s summer signing from Everton turned out to be an inspired piece of business for Fantasy managers. While Yakubu’s goals failed to keep the Lancashire outfit in the top-flight, his starting price of 5.5 afforded us a dependable cut-price option for our frontlines, allowing us to invest budget in other areas.

A four-goal haul against Swansea back in Gameweek 14 was undoubtedly the highlight of the Nigerian’s season, with a 21 point return produced for his Fantasy owners. Yakubu’s spot-kick duties also helped, taking his tally to 17 goals for the campaign – only Van Persie, Rooney and Aguero found the net more often. With five double figure points hauls and 18 bonus points also thrown in, few players offered the same sort of value as Yakubu, with a total of 144 points seeing him sit sixth overall for forwards.

Grant Holt
The Norwich skipper was another cut-price sensation last time out. Starting at 5.5, Holt scored just once in the opening eight matches as his price dropped down to 4.9 by Gameweek 10 but, despite Paul Lambert’s penchant for rotation, he finished the season with 15 goals as the Canaries sealed their top-flight survival with ease.

Holt missed just two matches, starting 24 of Norwich’s fixtures, with a further 12 coming off the bench, and scored against the likes of United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in a memorable debut top-flight campaign. The most reliable Fantasy performer for Lambert’s side, he also returned 19 bonus points and, with a score of 138 points, was second top in terms of value for any outfield player.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Forca, of course Droopy was a 'good' choice, but clearly not the best, in the opinion of the decision-makers. The reasoning has been laboriously flogged across the press, time to back the man in situ.

Laurent Blanc's second tranche of pre-selected players from the domestic league has just been announced:

    Goalkeepers: Carrasso, Lloris, Mandanda

    Defenders: Debuchy, Réveillère, Yanga-Mbiwa

Midfielders: Diarra, Gourcuff, M'Vila, Martin, Matuidi

    Forwards: Giroud, Ménez, Valbuena, Rémy

Rémy's injury is described as "fairly serious" but he'll be assessed by medical staff on Friday. But Kaboul won't be fit for Euro 2012, says Blanc. Sakho would be the most likely replacement.

So if Remy is injured, Benzema nailed on then?

BTW, don't suppose you know who's on pens for Germany, is it Bastian or Lahm? I only ask as I notcied Hummels scored a peno for Dortmund in the cup final at the weekend.

Schweinsteiger took Germany's last penalty in a 3-1 victory against Turkey in October. Lahm was on the pitch at the time. Hummels won't be the penalty-taker.

Gourcuff is a big risk, as he hasn't convinced at all this year, but if anyone, Laurent Blanc knows how to bring the best out of him. Blanc justified selecting Gourcuff by saying that no-one else has imposed themselves in his position.

Going back to Harte and Dembele, Harte may be old but if he stays in reading first 11 then he will be a must have. Dembele may move on, personally don't think he will move but even if he does he's gonna be a fine player and looks as if he's going to be a major fantasy asset if he keeps improving the way he has done so far.

I dont get the dembele admiration here. Sure he is a great player, but hes much like Modrich in terms of FPL and hes playing in a crappier team, so less chance of assists and his long shot is worse. He wont be a FPL stud unless he gets payed as a striker.

If he was classed as a midfielder it would make a difference as baps points distribution is weighted higher for mid shots than attackers. He is an improving player in an improving side, all opinion of course but i do think he will have a massive season next time round.

Not in terms of FPL, but in a game, currently he has defenders stats for shots attempted and key passes made. With the low amount of shots he is taking he needs to have at least 2,,5-3 key passes per game to be worth anything in fantasy, currently hes getting 1,5. So he needs to be more forward or in a better team wor his worth to change.

I hear where you are coming from BUT things change, Dempsey, Cahill, Arteta even Barry/Milner all had hot spells as fantasy gold, all i'm saying is that his time will come, he is clearly an attack minded player and when Jol gets to complete his own squad then Dembele will be way more attacking and has all the attributes needed to be a massive points scorer.

Harte has been a very good player, I was at Ewood when he scored a hattrick of free kicks many years ago! But will not be able to cut it in the prem imo, if he does he will well worth looking at for set pieces alone. Dembele will never be a major fantasy asset unless he changes role or team imo.

Dembele is probably my favourite player in the league but I can't see him being a fantasy asset any time soon.
He averaged just over 1 shot per game last year - not worth in investing in any mid or forward with that.
He was better with key basses with closer to one a and a half per game but that puts him on a par with Cabaye, Ramsey and Morrison - not huge fantasy assets.

If he was down as a mid then he'd probably be an alright DGW pick but I can't see it at the moment.

I do it every season with my beloved team, and it's a labour of love to slowly assemble a team and get up to the level where I can challenge. So rewarding when it comes together though.

Fernandino is a class player to get. Montero, Elyounoussi, Benitez are all good cheaper strikers to get in too.

World class this year for me, used to play legendary on the old ones, but I'm not good enough at the new defending yet.

Only simulate friendlies. 9 seasons sounds a lot but its only really a couple of games a day since it came out in October.

I simulate most of the home league games against weak opposition, play all the cup games just in case.

Question about the Fortuna Dusseldorf v Hertha Berlin game tonight.

        Open Controls
        1. Portsmouth Bubblejet
          • 15 Years

Heh, I'm a bit biased here, as Hertha are my team's local rivals. Hertha have the better squad, player for player, but are incredibly brittle psychologically, which is why they collapsed and gave away two sloppy goals in the first leg. Morale isn't great - Änis Ben-Hatira nutted Christian Lell in training recently. But they may be better off away from home, as the home fans can turn on the team in Berlin when things aren't going well.

Fortuna Düsseldorf ran out of steam at the end of the second division season, but have an 11-5-1 record at home in the 2. Bundesliga and the crowd will get behind them.

So it's very hard to judge - it's a cliche, I know, but at this stage, whoever copes with their nerves better will sneak through. It won't be pretty to watch.

Hope you don't mind if I'm cheering for the other team due to club loyalties.

After a quick perusal of the line-ups Berlin's selection of Mijatovic in defence means that they've got someone who can organise the back four but he's painfully slow. If Bröker goes on the type of runs for F95 that he did in the first leg it could be interesting. Then again, Düsseldorf are well-organised but fairly unimaginative upfront and are notorious for their gamesmanship.

Goood afternoon. I finally found some time and sat down with a coffee and a bag of Smarties and created my Euro team. This is quite a feat as my knowledge of European football is mainly restricted to Liverpool's European Cup winning teams from 1977 to 1984.
Imagine my disappointment when I couldn't find Dalglish, Rush, Hansen, Souness, Grobelaar, McDermott on the transfer page.
Anyway, it's done (I won't bother with the RMT). I did WC2010 and enjoyed it and even did U21 Euros last Summer, but gave up on that one halfway through. Looking forward to it now.

BTW Doosra, if you're around. I went into the forum of your classic league but the link to the H2H doesn't work for me, cheers.

No, but if your Polish player gets a low score you can put in your Swedish player in the hope he scores more. But if he does score less then you are stuck with the Swedish player's score.

If a player gets x points on day one, then if you have a player playing on day 2/3/4 who you think can get a better that score you can substitute him out (which also takes off his points).
For example, if a Polish player gets two points you can sub him out in the hope that the player who you bring in scores more.

Sure it's been discussed already but can anyone explain to me how:

Part Timers FC was 6th overall and 3rd in the FFS league, yet Bantam Strikes Back was 7th overall and 2nd in the FFS league?

Doesn't seem to be related to which GW they started as that was 1 for both of them. Am I being mega dense here and missing something obvious?

Like the fact that 2nd overall was called 'Maybe Next Season' - realist?

Ah okay cheers G$NK@PO, though it was quite a coincidence!!

Did it? So scores only taken from the 2nd week? yet leagues ran from week one correct? Or the otherway round

How did I miss that.......no wonder I had a shyte season....

The FFS League started in GW2 due to them wanting the league to be fair as some people weren't able to submit a team because of the problems with the FPL site.

hello lads. first time playing a league where you can swap players in/out after one has played. this may be a dumb and obvious question, but wouldnt the strategy be to always start your players who play sooner?

so always start the first keeper to play, swap if necessary.

keep the last 3 outfielders to play on your bench, regardless of who they are, swap accordingly for any 0s 1s or 2s who have played.

captain the first decent option who has a game, swap until satisfied, say at least 10 points.

am i missing something here? this almost seems like cheating.

seems a wee bit too easy then. like a bowling alley where they put bumpers on the gutters.

I think you have it bang on there Fuzzy.

I also have a dumb question ; why is everyone's strategy to WC after GW1 ? What's the thinking behind this, anyone ?

There is a healthy allowance of transfers in the later stages, so most are choosing to WC in the qualifiers. Quite a few are WC after GW2 as well, but those are not the peeps posting all the RMT's.

That's just the snowball effect on here. Gamble then WC. Imo the best strategy is to set your team up for 2GW's then WC GW3 when some teams will be through and put out squad players

Or hold out, untill you need it without planning to play a WC at all.
