The Arsenal players on the radar for Blank Gameweek 18 after West Brom win

West Bromwich Albion 0-4 Arsenal

  • Goals: Alexandre Lacazette (£8.2m) x2, Kieran Tierney (£5.5m), Bukayo Saka (£5.3m)
  • Assists: Emile Smith Rowe (£4.4m) x2, Rob Holding (£4.5m), Tierney
  • Bonus: Tierney x3, Lacazette x2, Holding x1

Arsenal brushed aside a hapless West Brom side that has now scored just once while conceding 13 times in the four league matches since Sam Allardyce took charge.

That keeps Baggies assets the wrong side of pointless, in so many senses, while Arsenal stars offer intriguing Fantasy possibilities in both the short and medium-term.

Lacca Boom

Gameweek 18’s seven fixtures are tempting managers to consider using their Free Hit chip, with the Gunners’ home match against Crystal Palace catching the eye.

The north London side have won three games on the bounce now, although their south London rivals are likely to show considerably more resistance than West Brom, having taken four points from the last six available, conceding just once along the way.

Alexandre Lacazette (£8.2m), who scored twice in four second-half minutes on Saturday, should be a strong bet to be a Free Hit striker for many.

He’s owned by just 4.6% of FPL managers and isn’t feeling huge regular transfer love despite four goals from his last three appearances, one of which was a 24-minute match-winning cameo at Brighton.

Midfield Magic

Instead, the Gameweek 18 money is going on Bukayo Saka (£5.3m), who was outstanding at West Brom, scoring his second goal in three matches.

The midfielder is currently the most-popular transfer in, with 100,000+ new managers.

But like most Arsenal assets, he’s still something of a differential, even if his 7.7% ownership figure is bettered by only Bernd Leno (£4.9m and 8.3%) among his team-mates.

Saka is providing a lot of bang for relatively little buck, with 27 points over the last three Gameweeks.

And so is Emile Smith Rowe (£4.4m), who set up two goals against the Baggies and is shaping up to be a team talisman.

He’s started the last three matches, producing three assists and helping the Gunners to three wins at exactly 6.0 points per match – no midfielder at that bargain bucket price can offer such a return.

For those on the tightest of budgets, Smith Rowe is a tempting prospect if he continues to hold down a starting spot.

Tierney Time

An understandably delighted Mikel Arteta reserved his biggest praise for defender Kieran Tierney (£5.3m), in part simply for being Scottish on a snowy night:

He’s got something special in his blood because we’re all wearing snoods, gloves and hats. He just goes out in his shorts and t-shirt! He is a joy to work with and I’m so happy for him with the goal he scored and everything he’s put in to be better every day towards the team and towards the club.

Tierney ended up with a match-leading four chances created and, with a second straight clean sheet under his belt as well, he produced a bumper 18-point haul for his 5.7% ownership.

The 6.3% on Hector Bellerin (£5.1m) were rather less well served as their man’s first-half booking persuaded Arteta to take him off after 53 minutes.

So while Tierney produced his first double-digit total of the season, the Spaniard brought in zero points.

Centre-half Rob Holding (£4.5m) also made it into double figures, thanks to an assist and one bonus point.

He’s put on over 100,000 new owners over Christmas and his price has moved up a notch as a result, but he’s still relatively cheap for a player who’s currently looking like a reliable starter in an improving backline.

Gunner Be Interesting

Free Hit or not, Arsenal players need monitoring.

After the visit of Palace, their fixtures are a mix of the good (Newcastle at home), the tough (Manchester United, also at home) and the harder to call (Southampton, Wolves and Aston Villa away, Leeds at The Emirates).

But the form of Lacazette, and the cut-price delights of Saka and co, should prompt investment, especially for those in need of a differential or two.

The Gunners could be further boosted by the return to fitness of Thomas Partey (£4.9m), with Arteta providing an injury update post-match:

Well, he hasn’t trained fully with us, but he has done most parts of training in the last few days. He’s feeling good and we will assess him if he needs another two or three sessions to see if he’s 100 per cent available to play [v Newcastle in the FA Cup].

Finding space in the midfield for a player of such quality will need to be achieved without upsetting a side that has clearly found some balance in his extended absence, of course.

As for West Brom, Allardyce continues to play the just-arrived card:

Another game gone by where we learn more about the players we have. We have learned an awful lot about what we can and cannot do.

‘Awful’ is the word and Fantasy managers learned that long ago – the only starter with anything approaching a vaguely significant ownership is keeper Sam Johnstone (£4.5m and 2.4%), who made eight stops against the Gunners to continue leading the way for saves in FPL, with 74.

West Bromwich Albion XI (4-1-4-1): Johnstone; Furlong, Ajayi, Ivanovic (Bartley 66), O’Shea; Sawyers; Diangana (Austin 45), Gallagher, M Phillips (Harper 81), M Pereira; C Robinson.

Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Leno; Tierney, Mari, Holding, Bellerín (Maitland-Niles 54); Xhaka, Ceballos, Smith Rowe (Willock 77); Saka (Willian 71), Aubameyang, Lacazette.

Think it'll be tight too. Liverpool haven't been great away from home this season and St Mary's is a tricky ground for most teams.

Southampton will make it tough for them.

    Morning all,

Hope you've had a good gameweek so far. May I trouble you with 2 questions that I would be grateful to hear your thoughts on?

GW18 - I should probably use my FH right? That is what I can field if I only did Salah > KDB as my FT
    Martinez
    C.Taylor* (doubtful)
    KDB - Son - Bruno - Grealish
    DCL

GW19 - Best way of getting KDB in? Lose Son or Vardy as part of a -4 to get KDB?
    Martinez
Chilwell - Dallas - Coufal (Taylor - Ferguson)
    Salah - Bruno - Son* - Grealish - Soucek
    Vardy* - Barmford (DCL)
£1.0 itb, not using the BB chip

Doesnt usually pay off but i think targetting a high TV through hits earlier on in the season was a big game changer this year

It was an excellent week to have those premiums.

But, having had four of them for a while, it's been hit and miss to be fair. My best scoring players recently have been Martinez (4.5), Holding (4.4) and Soucek (5.0).

There's plenty of good value players doing well. So I think it's just a case of getting the right combo and a bit of luck

I've never tried to get a high team value. Firstly, i don't like having money tied up in players, as i have to asses more the selling of the player. Secondly, a 1M higher TV is basicly Vardy over Kane, Bamford/Watkins/Adams over DCL, James over Chilwell.

Why are you so set on BB when on the eve of GW18 you still have 3 rubbish bench players (in the context of BBing in the DGW)?

I'd just try and get 10 or 11 DGWers (I'm 10 + Kane) and play your TC instead.

A haul from KDB (or whomever you choose) in DGW will likely be worth as much as BB if not more

      1. King Kohli
        • 11 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

This is where I'm at now.

        Martinez Meslier
        TAA Konsa Coufal Taylor Mitchell
        Salah Bruno Son Raphinha Anguissa
        Kane Bamford Adams

        2 FT 1.7 itb.

Looking at the following 5 moves upto 19:
        TAA > Cancelo
        Mitchell > Stones
        Kane > Vardy
        Son > KDB
Taylor > 5.3 def OR Anguissa > Soucek if funds permit.

Have 2nd gk and a def with dgw already, it feels like the right time to play BB and get done with the chip.

I'd narrow those transfers down to a couple of key ones - definitely KDB in for Son as one.

Then just play TC in GW19. You are planning too many hits there and you will end up with an unbalanced squad at the end of it too.

Even now I'm way more interested in my DGW19 BB than my FH18.

    Martinez Johnstone
    Zouma James Stones Coufal Dallas
    Salah KdB Fernandes Son Grealish
    Bamford Adams Davis

The obvious move in GW19 is Son + Davis out. Losing 1 fixture to gain 4.

Problem is, I don't have much in the way of funds.

    A) Son + Davis > Ings + Raphinha -4
    B) Son + Davis > Ziyech + Rodrigo -4
    C) James + Son + Davis > Robertson + Gundo + Rodrigo -8
    D) James + Son + Davis > KWP + Martial + Raphinha -8
    E) Keep Son?! How do I fund a Davis replacement? Grealish?

Would appriciate your opinions on this one.
I wildcarded in GW16 to set up for FH18 and BB19. I really want KDB for his double in 19, but no obvious route to get him.
    Any Suggestions?

    Martinez (McCarthy)
    Zouma, Cresswell, Coufal (Dias, Dallas)
    Salah, Son, Bruno, Soucek, Raphinia
    Bamford, Vardy (DCL)

    A) Son & Vardy -> KDB & Adams/Watkins (-4)
    B) Raphinia, Vardy, DCL, Cresswell -> KDB, Rodrigo, Antonio, KWP (-12)
    C) Son, DCL, Cresswell -> KDB, Adams/Watkins, Balbuena (-8)
    D) Get KDB after GW19 for free

If you want KDB then Salah is the clearly the player to transfer out but I would want him back for GW19. Son to Salah in GW19?

Would you do Balbuena, Son and Kane to Dias, KDB and Watkins - 8 for BB19?

    1FT 0.2itb
    Martinez
    Holding Robbo Cancelo
    Son Bruno Salah Raphinha
    Bamford Kane Rodrigo
    (Johnstone Soucek Coufal Balbuena)

No way I would lose Kane and son for that the fixture is just to perfect. If you got 8-10 or what doubles that's plenty imo just BB with them 2 in it. I am doing exactly the same gl Tony

Thanks HF. It does seem like I'm trying to fit in KDB by taking out good players. Back to the drawing board again, probably will have to sort out Balbuena if he has defo lost his place to Dawson. GL to you too

I assume the choice of City def has been discussed million times but wondering what is the latest. I will bring at least one but really struggling to pick:

    A) Dias the most nailed one
    B) Cancelo the one with the most potential
    C) Stones the cheapest

I was on A because of the Pep factor but now B and C looked nailed as well. Cancelo seems to bring more points in the long run with his assist / bonus potential and I don’t see him being rotated at least for 18-19 but not sure.. What do you think?

    1. 2OLEgend

      I'd still go Dias

I'd say Cancelo is the best pick at the moment. He performs well so Pep will probably play him. Ziyechs man scored the late goal yesterday, Walker out and Mendy being more interested in big booties helps.

I like Cancelo best I think. Nice attacking potential. But Stones to save money is also good.

    5. thegaffer82

The way Stones is nailing down his spot, I'd actually go 1) Cancelo 2) Stones 3) Dias in that order now.

Cancelo is best by a mile though. I loved that shot of Pep and Cancelo walking off the pitch together and you could tell Pep was over the moon with him.

    Morning all,

I would appreciate some advice please for dgw19 here’s my current team. I’m planning to bench boost in that week too.

    McCarty Forster
    Robertson stones Dallas cancelo coufal
    Son grealish Fernandes salah soucek
    Kane bamford Davis

I would ideally like to get de Bryne in if possible and I’m thinking the following

    A- Kane grealish > de Byrne Watkins/Adams -4
    B- grealish Davis > raphina Watkins/Adams -4
C- son grealish > de bryne raphina
    D - stick with what I got

    Or any other suggestions

    Thanks

If you are set on bench boosting you need focus on replacing Davis and getting a 2nd playing keeper.

C - Value for money, I cannot see going Sterling and KDB is worth it long term. My preference is still 2 def and 1 attacker from City. Prefer Cancelo, stats look great and is very close to a haul.

Not sure why you have Brewster in your FH 11 team. He should be at a stretch a playing bench player but you already have Smith Rowe so play him and downgrade Brewster to Davis 4.3

With Laporte injured now, Stones is the best value option right now for next 5 GWs including the DGW

Can see him rise to 5.5+ if anyone is chasing value

Not chasing value, but I like the points he's bringing home at the minute.

I'm even considering using my 2nd FT this week to do Dier > Stones (as well as Salah > Sterling).

Just not sure whether I should wait another week and see if I still want Stones at that point

is there a case of dropping Grealish for the DGW19. Fixtures aren't brilliant and if he gets a YC, then he misses the second game. Also, only 0,1 value tied in him

He's not essential by any means. But I'm keeping him for sure. He's an elite player who can score and assist against any team really and Villa are brilliant this year.
