Should we stick or twist on Leeds assets for Gameweek 20 & beyond?

Fantasy Premier League managers have gobbled up Leeds assets this season due to Marcelo Bielsa’s attacking style of play.

Striker Patrick Bamford (£6.7m) is in nearly half of all FPL teams, with Stuart Dallas (£4.8m), Ezgjan Alioski (£4.5m) and goalkeeper Illan Meslier (£4.7m) all experiencing price rises.

But with two defeats on the bounce in the Premier League where Leeds have looked unconvincing and a humiliating 3-0 defeat against Crawley in the FA Cup, FPL managers are now wondering whether to stick with Leeds players or move them on.

To help with any decisions, we’ve taken a deep dive to find out what went wrong in Leeds’ last two games and whether this shows the start of a downward trend.

As this article uses extensive data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

GOALS DRYING UP?

Bamford has proven to be a revelation since the start of the FPL season when he was priced up at just £5.5m.

After scoring in Gameweek 1 against Liverpool, the former Chelsea player hasn’t looked back in an amazing season which has seen him rise by £1.2m in value.

With a steady stream of goals to his name, Bamford is currently in 49.4% of FPL teams, and was brought in more than 130,000 people ahead of Double Gameweek 19.

Part of Bamford and Leeds’ attacking appeal is the sheer number of chances they have in games.

I shipped Dallas out before the BGW. Bamford last chance vs Newcastle. If they still look out of sorts will look a way to replace.

Meh. You don't have to play by following articles. I mean no one knows who this guy is. Could be more mass influencing like most of the scouts and pro pundits do. Getting rid of a player based on some guys opinion is a boring way to play no ?

they've beaten West Brom, Sheffield United, Burnley and Newcastle, most of which couldn't even buy a draw at the time. It's a really, really rough extended run from 21-33 that gets worse as I goes along. I own Bam, Dallas, Alioski. I think my plan will be to bench them all after Newcastle and monitor/consider shifting Bam if he looks to fade

Their aim is to stay in the division. I dunno why there is such expectation for them to keep clean sheets and score 2/3 goals every single game. Look at their squad.

      1. Pacer.
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

Nobody expects it every single game, do they, really? West Brim's aim is to 'stay in the division's and the football and entertainment value for paying customers is so secondary to that that they've hired Allardcye. Leeds approach is almost secondary to staying in the league, they live or die playing that way. So I think it's fair to expect that through rough and smooth their approach will be to continue at least trying to create as many chances and score as many goals as possible

People on here expect it every game, should have seen some people after the Brighton loss lol.

No, but what the guy above said “is the Leeds honeymoon over?” Leeds just need to stay up and that’s their aim, they know they aren’t going to win every game.

Too ealry to say. Same can be said of Villa. Three from either of those teans too much. I have banford only and doubt I will be getting rid in a hurry.

But if i had three of any team it would be too much. I presently have three city and that is making me itchy.

Two more than enough from any team.

Another painful watch tonight with no players. How did I even end up with no West Ham players?

For sure, Salah would have to be really abject v BUR for me to even consider selling, even taking into account his not so great fixtures.
Robertson I wouldn't be too sad about, he's a nice differential in my ML, but takes up a wodge of cash with there being a lot of value options in defence atm.

Robbo probably to Cancelo. If Saints lose to Arsenal (or less likely Shrews) I can see the dgw being gw23 (FA Cup 5th round slot) which would be very nice fixt for both (CPL & new)

Obv assess after this game week
Palace looking particularly poor but if you only play 1 of 3 Leeds players vs Newcastle what’s the point in owning them (besides BB this week)
For that reason I’d probably bench Soucek
Own Dallas Rodrigo Coufal myself and probably starting Dallas over Soucek

The article on Leeds in last few weeks paints a grim picture though.

It does not mention Phillips not playing this week as a factor, while he's been running midfield for Leeds....

Decent chance. Sterling was poor again (despite his freekick).

      Better palace/united combo

      Shaw/ward or awb/mitchell

With Telles in the background and a big price tag, i think id go B. Mitchell has proven that Palace defend better when he is in the side so he's not nailed but id prefer his risk over the Shaw risk.

        McCarthy, Sanchez
        Dias, Stones, Chilwell, R.James, Holding
        Salah, Bruno, Son, Souchek, Smith-Rowe
        Kane, Vardy, Davis

its pretty good. wouldn't do kane and vardy tho. rather have a 6-6.5 forward and upgrade soucek / smith rowe

What's your score this week so far? I'm at 78 with everyone left to play, providing zouma and johnstone play.

keep your liverpool boys, spurs away may look tricky on paper ,but if anyone thinks spurs are going to batter liverpools back line line just remember how they massively backed off against wba and fulham ,i can see allison having an easy night next thursday,3-0 pool ,sit down mourinho

Benching Liverpol defenders is perfectly reasonable if you think other players are likely to outscore them.

With a deep benches, people will have to make these calls, and it won't always pay off. But you have the team you have, and need to assess each week where the points are going to come from, removing the bias of your previous expectations as much as possible.

The rationale that you have to play someone because of their price, or you have to sell them immediately if you're thinking of benching them one week, is pretty darn proposterous in my opinion.

City have lined up 2 different starting X1's for Villa & Cheltenham. Aguero, Laporte. Mendy lined up for Cheltenham
