Scoutcast: Best Wildcard picks for FPL Gameweek 7

Joe and Andy are here to help Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prepare for Gameweek 7.

Many FPL managers are looking to Wildcard this week, as Chelsea begin their kind run of games and the current template looks in need of a shake-up.

The Scoutcast community team, which the crew are managing on behalf of a top 100 manager who has to dip out of the game this year for health reasons, is in particular need of an autumn refresh.

Our Scoutcast duo use this as an opportunity to frame their chat around the best options to bring in this week and to tackle the key issues Wildcarders and non-Wildcarders alike are facing.

Attacking defenders top the bill in this chat. Should FPL managers double up on Manchester City’s rearguard or Chelsea’s backline? And what of the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), who may miss this weekend’s clash between Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s troops?

Midfield and forward options are also considered, as is the best formation to opt for into October and beyond.

Key to this is whether to opt for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m) now or stick with Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.7m) for another Gameweek or two.

Maverick managers looking to think outside of the Twittersphere may be intrigued by Joe’s ‘unfashionable picks’ table, which makes its first appearance of the season.

There are also fixtures to frisk, differentials to consider, teams to reveal and captaincy issues to ponder.

This show also features an intriguing bandwidth tussle between Andy’s internet and the rest of his family’s decision to watch Channel 4’s Bake Off. Joe is left to cook up some tasty stats and chew on the community’s questions on his own at a couple of points while Andy grabs a pasty and reconnects his West Country broadband.

This week’s episode was aired live via YouTube on Tuesday 28 September. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified of future live episodes. It is also available as a podcast.

This looks like a pretty tasty front 3?

    Antonio Vardy DCL

DCL will be back after the IB.

Vardy is hauling whether LEI are playing well or losing.

Also one of the most consistent forwards you can own.

Why not get Vardy Lukaku and Antonio they would be my preferred front three from gw 10 Toney in for Antonio. For some odd reason a lot of ‘active’ managers are anti Vardy I find it odd. On pens starts gets goals.

I’m contemplating getting Cash and Vardy in for TAA and Bamford. My front 3 would then be Lukaku, Antonio and Vardy and I would have enough to do Sarr to Raphinia in week 8.

This would be at the expense of a second Chelsea defender (got Cancello & Rudiger already)

Best option here. Don’t really want to WC till as late as possible

    1A) Grealish
    B) Gallagher
    C) Mbuemo
    D) Saka/ESR

2A) Bruno and Scarlett to Brownhill and Lukaku 343
    B) Bruno and Ings to midfielder above and Lukaku 352

Will take a hit for Shaw to Rudiger/Alonso if he and Raphinha doubts. Otherwise should be OK.

Really. High praise. Thanks. If I need to take a hit I feel I need to stick to 352 as otherwise only really making 2moves. But 343 seems the best formation as I don’t have Antonio and want Toney soon.

Mainly because of ESR price fixtures and likely to start a good chunk of games. Allows you more flexibility elsewhere. Plus if he misses the odd game no harm done

1A followed by one of the Arsenal guys, probably Saka, seems a little more nailed to me. 2A, don't like the idea of a dead 4.5 forward on the bench when we need as stronger bench as possible right now

Think I like A better as it's more balanced but maybe B would look better possibly if you did Rudiger & Duffy to Christensen & Matip, they'll be rotated yes and have a low ceiling but at least it'll give you Chelsea, Liverpool and City defense

Should be pretty nailed on, will miss the odd game but everyone in that defense will, he's 5.0 for a reason though as he won't be as nailed as Rudiger say but he's been rewarded with a new big contract and Tuchel is said to trust him a lot

Thinking of swapping Bamford for Jimenez out this week if Bielsa confirms Bam is out. I notice Mexico play El Salvador on Thurs 14 Oct. Should I be worried about him featuring in GW8? Any Wolves fans with any intel on this?

Just seen bamford dropped 0.1 last night so unlikely to drop again this week I’d imagine. Looks like a good swop but given he has already dropped it gives you a bit of time to wait for any updates (FYI I’m thinking Bamford to Vardy and downgrade TAA to Cash to give me the funds)

      1. Tinfoil Deathstar
        • 3 Years
        2 years, 6 months ago

Yeah that was a bit of an unexpected drop as was no where near on price change websites. Interesting moves you are considering. I could potentially do Trent to Cash and Bamford to Lukaku for a -4 instead of the Jimi move.

Yea, I thought we had a bit more time till the drop. Story of my season so far has been losing value on players and my strikers getting injured!

My swop is -4 too and let’s me do Sarr to raphinia next week. Will wait on Europe games to finish first though.

    Sanchez (4.0)

    TAA Ayling Shaw Tsimi Marcal

    Saka Bruno Benrahma Jota Brownhill

    Ronaldo Antonio Toney

Given defence could just be 1 fit and playing plus other issues, i am thinking I have to pull trigger on WC.

Kovacic needs to go as well is a bad use of a Chelsea space. I would get Raphinha in for Jota. ESR in for Torres and Zaha/JWP in for Kovacic.

Any thoughts here much appreciated, please:

    Meslier / 4.0
    TAA / Rüdiger / Livramento / Marçal / Omobamidele
    Salah / Jota / Torres / Raphinha / Benrahma
    Antonio / Ronaldo / Obafemi

Did Shaw to Rüdiger, and now I am considering TAA to Alonso/Torres or Jota out for a hit. Who to bring in? The plan is to WC after IB... I guess. Thanks!

Could maybe bring in whichever Chelsea midfielder isn't playing today? Yes Chelsea midfield is very hard to pick but if for only a week one could be a nice differential if you pick the right one

My team is a shambles, already on a -4 (Done Shaw > Alonso and Barnes > Saka before price drop)

    Meslier (Matthews)

    TAA Alonso Semedo White Livramento

    Salah Saka Traore Benrahma Greenwood

    Lukaku Bamford Dennis

I've no wildcard and keen for just going for a complete overhaul and taking the -24/-28.

    Meslier > Ramsdale
    TAA > Cancelo
    Semedo > Aarons
    Traore > Gallagher
    Greenwood > Raphina
    Bamford > Ronaldo

    Thoughts?

Both fully fit would you rather have Jesus or DCL?

DCL +more nailed and on pens
    - Everton harder fixtures, can have Gray/Docoure as Everton 'coverage'.

Jesus + better attacking side, better fixtures, decent minutes so far, harder to get a City attacking player who has racked up minutes like he has other than Grealish who has 12 less points and plays CL, but is .6 less
    - more rotation, 0.6 more expensive, near impossible to captain with certainty, goals likely shared around City team

The many times I have owned Jesus, whithout fail, he keeps on trolling me. He would however be the only City attack I would want to own at this point.

My choice before the TAA injury on WC appeared to be between Ronaldo (with Salah and Kaku) and a strong D. Now with the money saved by going without TAA I can afford double Chelsea D, Cancelo (or Dias) and Ronaldo if I rotate White and Livamento for my final starting spot. There is no easy way back to TAA however so is it worth going Pool D less for a few GW's to squeeze in Ronaldo ?

    Sanches (4.0)
    Rudiger, Alonso, Cancelo, White/Livamento
    Salah, Raphinha, Sarr (4.5, 4.4)
    Ronaldo, Lukaku, Antonio

I would have immediately assumed that Leeds more chance of conceding than Brighton have of a clean sheet. So more likely Dennis outscores Duffy. I am forced to start Double Brighton defence this gw not pleased about it!

Yeah and Bissouma is out. Brighton have been pretty good at home though and Duffy goal threat. Dennis keeps getting hauled off too early though.

Yeah watched Brighton away v Palace on telly live. Looked solid enough. But Arsenal have a lot of firepower. Would be amazed if Brighton keep them out.

How long is TAA out? Is he expected back after the international break?
