Stevie of EyeTestFPL casts the spotlight on more Fantasy Premier League (FPL) options that caught his attention in Gameweek 28, using ‘eye test’ screenshots and information from our Premium Members Area.

Having scored five past Everton in the last league match, Tottenham Hotspur seem to be finding their groove, particularly with the recent emergence of Dejan Kulusevski (£6.1m) and Matt Doherty (£4.7m) down the right flank.

The topic for the best Spurs attacking options has already been widely covered, so I would instead like to take this opportunity to take a slightly deeper dive into Antonio Conte’s best front trio at the moment.

Kane v Son

The best Spurs players for FPL Double Gameweek 29 and beyond

Harry Kane (£12.3m) has certainly been in excellent form, having scored three goals and created one assist over the last two Gameweeks. And, he seems to be building a case for himself as the best Spurs attacker to get in FPL.

However, in this article, I am making the argument that his South Korean teammate, Son Heung-min (£10.8m), may potentially have a greater goal threat than him.

Since Conte’s arrival at the north London club, it has been fairly obvious what the Italian manager wants out of his talismanic striker – to get inside the box as much as possible and score.

Evidently, he has been doing just that, playing much more like an out-and-out striker than during Mauricio Pochettino or Jose Mourinho’s reign when he was playing further away from goal.

However, human instincts are not easily curbed. Being the highly technical player that he is, Kane often finds himself unable to resist the urge to drop deeper on some occasions. That is just who he is as a player and how he wants to express himself on the pitch.

Everton did play a higher line than most teams, making this a game arguably more tailor-made for Son than Kane. Still, there were a couple of instances in which we could see the tendencies of both players – Kane looking to receive the ball near the center of the pitch while Son was spearheading the attack.

I think Kane plays better when he can see the whole play unfolding in front of him, which would further increase the South Korean midfielder’s goal threat.

Frankly, Son looked the more dangerous player in this match. At least, purely based on the eye test.

This 'eye test' is quite interesting. I personally think (based on my own eye test) Kulusevski has taken away attacking threat from Son, but increased Kane's attacking threat.

Kulusevski gets involved, he tries to create and get on the end of things. This is something that prior to his arrival was almost wholly taken up by Son and Kane. Moura and Bergwijn not being up to the task except as impact subs.

Son's attacking threat has decreased because attacking actions he was performing are now partly being done by Kulusevski, but Kane's attacking threat has increased because he now has another viable option to pass to or get on the end of a ball from.

      I agree with you.

      I've got Son/Kane, if I was on a WC I'd go Kulu/Kane.

I agree to an extent, although I still think Son is getting chances. Kulusevski has a habit of dropping deep or into midfield to create an overload which gives Doherty/RWB to move or stay forward and focus the attack there. He holds up the ball well so Spurs' very quick counters (something which Son is excellent at and plays arguably the biggest role in) are happening a little less than before. I think the stats are skewed a little as in the Leeds game Ayling followed Son everywhere and he was often doubled-up on while Kane and Kulusevski managed to get free from their markers (who weren't as good defensively). Kane has definitely benefitted as he has not only Son to aim for but also has more support up top with him on the right side.

I partly disagree as a Spurs supporter. Moura used to dribble past everyone but often lacked in keeping the ball possession and supplying crosses/passing well to set up goals towards son/kane. Kulu isn't as fast as Moura but he is solid and quite stable in terms of keeping possession and driving the ball up forward and supplying kane and son with decent passes and crosses, more of a classic winger compared to Moura.

On the other hand, I see more of Son carrying the ball up forward rather than being in the receiving end. This is due to Kulu being relatively slow in counterattack compared to Moura, Moura used to do this role but I see Son taking over this role more which means somewhat less chances for son to score goals in some instances.

Son getting only one goal and no assists in a 5-0 win suggests his goal involvement in future games may be lessened by Kulu's arrival

Son also had one on one chance which he missed easily could've been 2 goals and 1 assist. Son scored every game that spurs scored and kulu played.

I’ve used my transfers for a triple up on Spurs: Kane (already in team), Son (Ramsey out) and Doherty (James out).

Son GI is around 20 in the league most years, loves to play on the counter and loves and explosive haul. I fancy it against United 🙂

    Morning chaps,

Just doing a bit of forward planning for GW30. Is Patson Daka the one to slot in for Vardy against Brentford? At the moment I am considering

    James > Doherty in 29
    Broja > Daka in 30

Gives me 11 players for 30 with no hits. The unfortunate downside is that I do not have Robertson + Kulusevski for DGW29...

    1. Harvey_27
      • 4 Years

I think Daka is mostly likely, yes, though no idea where Brendan's gone off Nacho. Unless James is explicitly out for 2 weeks or more, I wouldn't move him out for Doherty, and but if it's not for a hit, can see Broja to Daka being tempting

This is my current team, 0FT (did Dennis to Kane) & 0.6 ITB.

    Ramsdale*
    Livra TAA* VVD*
    Salah* Saka* Coutinho
    Kane* Broja Weghorst

    Foster Cash Cancelo D.Luiz

My original plan was just Bowen to Kulu, but with the news of Cancelo is it worth moving him out for Doherty? If I do both it will be -8 and sets me up for GW30 quite nicely? I want to save my FH that week. Still FH, WC & BB to go.

Thoughts on best Leicester attacking option now that Vardy is out?

Barnes seems to be hitting some form, pretty cheap, direct.

Maddison seems the best pick in a vacuum, but slight concern with gametime and injury perhaps

Tielemans on penalties, a tad cheaper

Daka probably comes into the team, and takes up a striker spot instead of a midfielder

I think Barnes and Maddison are both very streaky players so I'd be tempted by Barnes. Maddison always seems to have niggling injuries throughout the season and seems to be in a bad spell with them. Tielemans hasn't looked great for a while, certainly feels to me like he might have his eye on a move elsewhere. I'd love to go for Iheanacho but even if he's Leicester's only available striker Rodgers always seems to find a way to avoid playing him as much as possible so I wouldn't go there, or Daka for that matter.

Thoughts on James, Saiss and Coutinho to Robertson, Doherty and Kulusevski for -8?
Would give me this lot with 9 doublers and 10 players for GW30.

    Ramsdale
    TAA Doherty Robertson Tierney
    Salah Kulusevski Raphinha Saka
    Kane Broja

    Foster Jimenez Ramsey Digne

Considering the exact same moves. Maybe Saiss -> Doc could wait though or you think it’s worth the additional -4?

Could wait with that but depends on the performance of Wolves tonight I guess

Feels like Spurs are a top shelf CDM and CB away from silverware.

Højbjerg is a top level DM, and Bentacur looks superb.

I think they need a top CB and a lot more depth across all positions.
